WILD THING Vincent Trocheck posted an assist tonight, and he has now tallied an assist/point in seven consecutive games (3/30-4/10: 3g, 7a) after missing eight games (3/11-3/27) with an upper-body injury. He has now tied Dougie Hamilton (2/27-3/11: 8a in 7 GP) for the longest assist streak by a Hurricanes player this season. Dating back to 2/27, he has now earned a point in each of his last 13 games played (2/27-4/8: 6g, 10a), tying Blaine Stoughton (1/20/82-2/16/82: 6- 13—19 in 13 GP) for the fifth-most consecutive games played with a point in franchise history. He is one game shy of tying Dougie Hamilton (2/27-3/27: 2- 14—16 in 14 GP) for the longest such run by a Hurricanes player in 2020-21. Despite playing only 31 games this season, Trocheck (16-18—34) ranks second on the team in points ( Sebastian Aho : 16-21—37).

HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF Dougie Hamilton registered two points (1g, 1a) tonight, and he has now earned a point in 18 of his last 21 games (2/27-4/10: 5g, 17a). He has now posted a team-high 27 assists this season, and he ranks third on the team in points (33). Since joining the Hurricanes in 2018-19, Hamilton has tallied 112 points (38g, 74a) in 169 games. His 0.65 points per game and 0.22 goals per game both rank first among defensemen in team history (since relocation).

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOY Martin Necas tallied two points (1g, 1a) tonight, and he has now recorded four points in his last two games (4/8-4/10: 2g, 2a). After leading the team in points in March (7-10—17) and being named an NHL Star of the Week twice that month (Third Star on 3/8, Second Star on 3/29), Necas had been held scoreless through his first four games of April (4/1-4/6).

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST Jordan Staal scored a goal tonight, and he has now scored three goals in his last three games (4/6-4/10). He has now scored 118 goals since joining the Hurricanes in 2012-13, tying (1998-04) for 10th in goals in team history (since relocation). Staal has now scored 13 goals this season, marking his highest total since 2017-18, when he scored 19 goals in 79 games. His 13 goals also mark his most through 38 games since 2011-12, when he lit the lamp 18 times in his first 38 games.

BEAT IT Despite tonight’s shootout loss, the Hurricanes improved to 27-9-4 (58 points) this season, setting the franchise record for standings points through the team’s first 40 games of any season. The previous record was 56 points (26-10-4), achieved in 2005-06. Carolina has now posted a .725 points percentage in 2020- 21, which is tied with COL for the league lead.

GLORY DAYS The Hurricanes wore their gray Whalers Reverse Retro uniforms for the final time this season. Carolina has now worn Whalers jerseys five times since relocating to North Carolina in 1997, and the team has now posted a 3-0-2 record in those games. During their 18 seasons in Hartford, the Whalers compiled a 534-709-177 regular season record and an 18-31 record in eight playoff appearances, including seven straight berths from 1986-92. Hartford posted a 21- 21-7 record against Detroit.

THE HOUSE IS ROCKIN’ The Hurricanes are now 3-1-1 on their current eight-game home stand. This stretch is tied for the second-longest home stand in franchise history. Carolina went 5-2-1 in their only previous eight-game home stand from 1/30/18-2/13/18. The team played nine straight home games from 10/30/02-11/19/02, with a record of 4-0-3-2.

SPECIAL TEAMS - Carolina went 0-for-2 on the power play tonight and is now 35-for-120 (29.2%) on the man-advantage this season. The Hurricanes were 2-for-2 on the kill and are now 106-for-127 (83.5%) on the kill this season. - Detroit went 0-for-2 on the power play tonight and is now 14-for-120 (11.7%) on the man-advantage this season. The Red Wings were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and are now 92-for-122 (75.4%) on the kill this season.
