PURPOSE:

The Northern Mystics Assistant Coach will primarily be responsible for assisting the Northern Mystics Head Coach in preparing the team for the 2021 ANZ Premiership. The role is fixed- term part-time throughout the ANZ Premiership Season.

The Assistant Coach will be part of the Northern Mystics coaching unit and is required to work with and support the Northern Mystics Head Coach in the following areas:

1. To contribute to the planning and development of effective programmes and training sessions. Ensuring individual players in the Northern Mystics Team are technically, physically, and mentally prepared to perform at an elite level. 2. To work with the Northern Mystics Head Coach and Performance Analyst to utilise coding technology to accurately analyse and identify key opposition players, teams and strategies as well provide key data for the Northern Mystics team and individual players. 3. To contribute to the development and implementation of astute game tactics and strategies necessary for the Northern Mystics to be successful against each opposition. 4. To plan & implement appropriate training sessions as agreed with the Northern Mystics Head Coach. Targeting the development and performance of agreed skills and tactics. 5. To provide input into the selection of the starting seven, and substitutions, to enhance on-court performance. 6. Assist the Northern Mystics Head Coach in match debrief and player feedback processes. 7. Assist the Northern Mystics Head coach and any other delegate to conduct regular player reviews throughout and at the conclusion of the season. 8. Monitor weekly player progressions in all training areas. 9. Contribute to the coaching of a specialist area of the court i.e. shooting, attacking mid-court, defensive mid-court, circle defence. 10. To work with Northern Mystics Head Coach and any other delegate to keep up to date with coaching developments, sports science research, teaching skills and techniques in netball and sport.

The Assistant Coach will report to the Northern Mystics Head Coach on all operational and management matters including programme planning, trainings, player feedback, HPSNZ support personnel and administration.

The Assistant Coach is ultimately accountable to the Zone CEO who is responsible for the implementation of the Zone’s High-Performance Plan.

The Assistant Coach is expected to act in a professional manner and build relationships with umpiring personnel, media, sponsors, funders, and other Netball Northern Zone and ANZ Premiership staff.

2. Experience, • Has coached at Championships, National Netball Coaching & League, Age Group Championships, or a NNZ national side for a Specialist minimum of 2 years. Knowledge • Demonstrates a very good level of understanding of the technical and tactical requirements of each playing position and area of court.

• Assists with the selection of the starting line and substitutions for each game that are consistent with individual and team performances. • Assists with managing & developing player performances in training and competition by: o Creating an environment that supports players to remain confident and focused throughout training and competition. o Providing activities and practices that enhance a player’s technical, tactical, and decision-making processes. o Helping players to adapt and change within the training and competition environment.

4. Communication • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with the and Engagement Northern Mystics Team and Northern Zone staff. • Assist with ensuring that players and management understand the importance of the team being considered as role models. Ensure the brand and profile of Northern Mystics team and Northern zone are always portrayed positively. • Is accessible to and acts in a professional manner when working with the Media. • Shares best practice coaching experiences with other Zone and Centre Coaches, as required. • Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with umpires and game officials.
