Summer 2009 The Lawyers’ 2008-2009 Annual Report Edition Campaign for equal justice Annual Fund 2008-2009 Year in Review by Statewide Co-Chairs Laurie Craghead, David Denecke and Tim Gerking

n this year’s campaign we asked lawyers if they believe in justice. In the face of a tough Ieconomy and growing numbers of low-income Oregonians, you once again answered with a resounding “YES!” In our 2008 - 2009 annual fund drive, which ended March 31, 2009, we raised $1,072,000 for statewide legal aid programs. This is our second year in a row of reaching our million dollar goal without the assistance of the Meyer Memorial Trust. Attorneys from all corners of the state pitched in to raise money for legal aid for the annual fund drive. Over 200 volunteers helped, and about 2,400 people contributed money to the Campaign. CEJ Board member Sarah Crooks, Perkins Coie; and Associates Committee Co-Chair Brien Flanagan, Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt, thank Campaign volunteers. The Portland Large Firm Committee, chaired by Joel Mullin, Stoel Rives; Darcy Norville, Tonkon Torp; and Larry Reichman, Perkins Coie, raised over $375,000. The Mid-Sized Firm Committee, co-chaired by Mark Attorney Wada, Farleigh Wada Witt and Wayne Landsverk, General Miller Nash (formerly of Newcomb Sabin), raised John Kroger, over $76,000. The Associates Committee, chaired by Secretary of Jessica Hamilton, Perkins Coie; Brien Flanagan, State Kate Schwabe Williamson; and Amy Edwards, Stoel Rives, Brown and drummed up enthusiasm for the Campaign by holding Parna Mehrbani, two events: the now-annual Party Under the Stars at the Lane Powell at OSB President Gerry Gaydos, Gaydos EcoTrust Building and a young lawyers’ Advocate Donor the Campaign Churnside & Balthrop; and Charles Reception at the Governor’s Mansion, Mahonia Hall.
