LOCAL OWNERSHIP GROUP

Majority Owner: Billy D. Prim Mr. Prim became the majority owner of the franchise when the team was nicknamed the Warthogs in 2003. He is the founder and chairman of Primo Water Corporation. Primo, a privately-held company based in Winston- Salem, markets mineral-enriched bottled water in three- and five-gallon sizes and a full line of convenient-to-use water-dispensing appliances for the home. Prior to Primo, Mr. Prim was the founder and CEO of Blue Rhino Corp., the nation’s leading provider of branded propane cylinder exchange and complementary propane-fueled appliances. In 2004, Mr. Prim sold Blue Rhino to Ferrellgas, New York Stock Exchange FGP. Before founding Blue Rhino in 1994, Mr. Prim was chairman and CEO of American Oil & Gas Company, a regional petroleum marketer. Mr. Prim is chairman of the Dean Prim Foundation, which provides scholarships for students to attend four-year colleges and universities, as well as the opportunity to participate in a travel and study program in China. It was created in memory of Mr. Prim’s father, who was an active member of the Yadkin County Board of Education. In 2003, Mr. Prim was named a recipient of The Carolinas’ Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. This program honors entrepreneurs whose ingenuity, hard work and perseverance have created and sustained successful, growing business ventures. Mr. Prim is a member of the World Presidents’ Organization and serves on the board of directors of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, Wake Forest Business School and the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Mr. Prim and his wife, Deborah, reside in Winston-Salem. Part Owner: Bryan Andrews Mr. Andrews, a Winston-Salem native, grew up in a baseball family. His father Bill “Doc” Andrews shined as a for Hanes High School in the 1940s. Mr. Andrews began working in baseball with the Winston- as a teenager. In 1983, he started JBA Benefits, an employee benefit firm in Winston-Salem. Mr. Andrews sold the company to Allegacy Federal Credit Union in 2007 and remained its President for several years after the sale. Part Owner: Derick Close A Charlotte native with more than 30 years of experience in the textile industry, Mr. Close is the CEO and owner of Springs Creative Products Group, LLC. He serves on the board of directors for the S.E. Huffman Corporation, the Springs Foundation/Close Foundation and the Springs Company. Mr. Close has worked with many community and charitable organizations, such as the Textile Foundation, the Board of Governors for the University of North Carolina, Leadership Charlotte and the Board of Trustees for North Carolina State University. Part Owner: Jimmy Strickland Mr. Strickland, a North Carolina native and 1981 graduate of , is a 25-year veteran of the food service industry. He served as the Food & Beverage Director for Darryl’s Restaurants before joining the Golden Corral organization as Vice President of Operations. In 1994, Mr. Strickland began working for Krispy Kreme in its Winston-Salem corporate office. From 1996 to 2003, Mr. Strickland owned, operated and managed five Krispy Kreme stores in Kansas City. Mr. Strickland is an active member of many community organizations. He is the Past President of the Deacon Club Board of Directors, Chairperson for “Coaches vs Cancer” in the Triad and Past Chairperson for the Foundation Board of Hospice and Palliative Care for the surrounding 13 counties. Part Owner: Chris Paul Mr. Paul, a nine-time NBA All-Star and two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, purchased a minority share of the Dash in 2018. Prior to his incredible NBA career, Paul was an All-American at Wake Forest University and named North Carolina’s Mr. while at West Forsyth High School.

DASH EXECUTIVES

President - C.J. Johnson C.J. became president and general manager of the Winston-Salem Dash on October 13, 2017, following the departure of longtime president Geoff Lassiter, who is now the current president of the Carolina League. In Johnson’s first year at the helm, the Dash were selected as the Freitas Award winner by as the top organization among 60 Class A teams, marking the first time Winston-Salem won this award. Winston-Salem also topped High-A baseball in attendance last year by bringing 292,774 fans out to BB&T Ballpark. C.J. rejoined the Dash in August 2012 as the team’s Vice President of Ticket Sales, a position he previously held with the club during the 2009 season. In this role, he was responsible for the oversight of all season and group ticket sales as well as the operations of the BB&T Ballpark Box Office. Under C.J.’s leadership as the VP of Ticket Sales, the Dash finished either first or second in attendance out of 30 teams in Class A-Advanced Baseball every sesaon. Prior to joining the Dash, C.J. worked in the business development department for the , a affiliate. He also worked for several years with the , starting out as an intern and working his way up to assistant general manager. A native of Cumberland, Md., C.J. received a B.A. in journalism with a minor in history from West University in 2003. He currently resides in Clemmons with his wife, Jaci, and their daughters, Allison and Avery.

Vice President - Baseball Operations: Ryan Manuel Ryan, a native of Winchester, Va., will begin his 22nd season in and his 21st with the Winston-Salem franchise in 2019. Ryan is responsible for all functions related to running and maintaining BB&T Ballpark, and he oversees team operations, facility management, stadium operations and groundskeeping. Ryan joined the Winston-Salem staff in 1999 as a group sales associate and was promoted to General Manager of Baseball Operations after the 2003 season. Ryan’s contributions were recognized in 2010 when he was named the winner of the Calvin Falwell Executive of the Year Award, becoming the first Winston-Salem executive to win the award.

Vice President - Chief Financial Officer: Kurt Gehsmann Kurt, who joined the team in March of 2003, is responsible for all aspects of company accounting, financing, financial analysis and budget preparation. He also handles human resource, information technology and business insurance activities for the Dash. Originally from New City, N.Y., Kurt also serves as the liaison between the Dash and Legends Hospitality Management, the team concessionaire, on all financial activity and reporting. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Kurt and his wife, Jackie, reside in Greensboro, and they have three sons, Ryan, Greg and Kevin. Vice President - Corporate Partnerships: Corey Bugno Corey joined the Dash as the Director of Stadium Operations before BB&T Ballpark’s inaugural season of 2010. Corey helped to start the Dash’s sister company Rhino Sports & Entertainment Services before joining the Corporate Partnerships team late in 2013. Corey previously spent two years working in a variety of roles for the IronPigs, with whom he helped open Coca- Cola Park in 2008. He also worked for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre franchise for two seasons. Corey is a graduate of Duquesne University, where he majored in Business and was a member of the Dukes baseball team. He resides in Kernersville with his wife, Kristine, and his daughter, Audrey.

2009: A NEW LOOK IN WINSTON-SALEM

After 14 years under the Warthogs nickname, the Winston-Salem organization announced its QUICK HITS - 2009 change on December 4, 2008. Winston and First Half Record (Finish)...... 38-30 (1st) Second Half Record (Finish)...... 35-35 (T-1st) Salem became one city in 1913, and the “Dash” Overall Record...... 73-65 (1st) symbolizes the special connection that these two ...... 0-3 vs. Salem in SDCS communities created more than 100 years ago and Manager...... Joe McEwing still strengthens each day.

Though the move to BB&T Ballpark would wait until 2010, Winston-Salem unveiled the new Dash look, along with the purple color scheme, while playing its final season at Field.

Winston-Salem overcame a sluggish start to the season. The Dash were just 21-24 on May 27 before zooming through the final 23 games with 17 wins. As a result, Winston finished six-and-a-half games better than second-place Salem for the first-half Southern Division championship. This stellar run included a season-best eight-game win streak from May 30 to June 7, during which Winston-Salem claimed four victories by a single tally.

Salem parlayed that momentum into consecutive 6-4 wins, the second of which took place in the Roanoke Valley, to punch its ticket to the Mills Cup Finals, where the Sox would fall to Lynchburg in three games.

The first season of Dash baseball was still a resounding success. In his first of two phenomenal seasons in the Dash purple, skipper Joe McEwing, TEAM LEADERS (* = among qualifiers) now a member of the Major League staff for the Batting Average*...... (.281) Home Runs... Brent Morel/Salvador Sanchez (16) White Sox, earned the circuit’s Manager of the RBIs...... Brent Morel (79) Year honor. Brent Morel was the Average*...... Johnnie Lowe (4.04) squad’s most dangerous hitter. The former big ...... Anthony Carter (119) leaguer was tied with Salvador Sanchez for the Saves...... Santo Luis (14) team lead in homers with 16, while his 79 RBIs paced all Dash hitters.

The franchise’s final game at Ernie Shore Field was the aforementioned Game 2 loss to Salem in the SDCS on September 10. During the offseason, the organization would build and move into beautiful BB&T Ballpark in downtown Winston-Salem.

2010: DASHING DOWNTOWN

From a sparkling new stadium to a tremendously successful season, 2010 was special for the QUICK HITS - 2010 First Half Record (Finish)...... 43-27 (1st) Winston-Salem franchise. On April 13, the Dash Second Half Record (Finish)...... 38-31 (1st) officially opened BB&T Ballpark and lost a tough Overall Record...... 81-58 (1st) 5-4, 12-inning game to Potomac in front of a sold- Playoffs...... 3-0 vs. Kinston in SDCS out crowd...... 1-3 vs. Potomac in MCCS Manager...... Joe McEwing That result belied the tone of the 2010 season on the field. Winston-Salem blitzed through the regular season, winning the first- and second-half crowns and posting the 14th 80-plus win season in franchise history. The Dash’s overall mark of 81-58 was at least seven-and-a-half games better than any other CL foe, and Winston competed in the Southern Division, which featured the three best teams on the circuit in the regular season.

The Dash were at their best when they played inside the new downtown facility. Winston-Salem’s 47-22 home mark trailed only the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (48-21), the Royals’ -A affiliate, among all 120 full-season Minor League clubs. The Dash hit an even .300 and scored almost six runs per game at BB&T Ballpark, and they logged a remarkable 11 walk-off wins.

Overall, Winston-Salem was the best offense in DASH TO MLB (in 2010) the CL by a wide margin. The Dash’s .288 overall Name (Years with Dash)...... MLB Debut batting average was 21 points higher than the RHP (2009)...... Apr. 8 next-closest competitor (Frederick). Winston also LHP Chris Sale (2010)...... Aug. 6 led the way in home runs (112), runs per game RHP (2009-10)...... Sept. 7 (5.3), (.435) and on-base INF Brent Morel (2009)...... Sept. 7 percentage (.350).

Once the postseason rolled around, Winston-Salem swept away Kinston in the Southern Division Championship Series. The Dash won a pair of low-scoring contests at home before clinching the set in a 10-5 decision in Game 3 at .

The Dash pushed their postseason win streak to four games by claiming the Mills Cup Finals opener against Potomac. However, the P-Nats bounced back to win three consecutive games, including TEAM LEADERS (* = among qualifiers) a thrilling 2-1 affair in the deciding Game 4, to Batting Average*...... Brandon Short (.316) complete the upset. Home Runs...... Seth Loman (25) RBIs...... Seth Loman (88) This squad received a midseason boost from left- *...... (3.71) hander Chris Sale, the White Sox first-round pick Strikeouts...... (109) in that June’s MLB Draft. Sale stormed all the way Saves...... Tyson Corley (10) to “The Show” in 2010, and he has finished in the top six of voting in the in each of the last seven seasons.

Sale headlines a group of nine players from that 2010 roster who have reached Major League Baseball. A Dash era-record seven players earned Midseason All-Star selections, while five men were on the postseason All-Star list.

Skipper Joe McEwing also became the fourth man in CL history to earn the Manager of the Year honor in consecutive seasons. McEwing was named -A Charlotte’s skipper in 2011 before earning the Third Base role with the White Sox in 2012. Before the 2017 season, McEwing became the club’s Bench Coach under new manager .

2011: THE GAC ATTACK

A pair of magical seasons sandwiched the 2011 campaign, but the second go-around at BB&T QUICK HITS - 2011 First Half Record (Finish)...... 32-38 (3rd) Ballpark still featured its fair share of excitement Second Half Record (Finish)...... 37-33 (2nd) and success. Overall Record...... 69-71 (3rd) Playoffs...... Did not qualify In the first half, the Dash could not overcome a Manager...... Julio Vinas tough 9-18 start and finished in third place. This snapped a streak of four consecutive halves that the Dash claimed at least a share of the Southern Division title.

The Dash turned things around in the second half and contended for a division championship until moments into the club’s second-to-last game, when Kinston wrapped up a playoff berth in its final season within the Carolina League until its rebirth in 2017.

Winston-Salem saw its winning-season streak come to an end at three, but the club continued its success at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash were 39-32 (.549) in home games, and they paced all Carolina League clubs in home runs (71) and runs per game (5.2) at home.

Sept. 4 logged one of the RHP (2009-10)...... Sept. 7 greatest seasons in Winston-Salem baseball history. Ian Gac’s home run (33) and RBI The native’s 33 home runs are easily the most in the Dash era, (96) totals in 2011 have not been matched by another Dash player. and they are second in franchise history to Ed Olivares’ 35 blasts in 1960. Gac also owns the Dash single-season records for RBIs (96), (276) and games played (140). He is the only player in the Carolina League to play in all 140 of his team’s games since Winston-Salem’s nickname change prior to the 2009 campaign.

Gac collected the CL’s Most Valuable Player Award, which jump-started a run of three TEAM LEADERS (* = among qualifiers) consecutive MVP honors for Winston-Salem Batting Average*...... Ian Gac (.279) sluggers. Dan Black garnered Home Runs...... Ian Gac (33) the award in 2012, while Chris Curley RBIs...... Ian Gac (96) accomplished the feat in 2013. Earned Run Average*...... Andre Rienzo (3.41) Strikeouts...... Andre Rienzo (118) While the team fell short of its goal Saves...... Taylor Thompson (15) of reaching the playoffs, several individuals collected Dash-era records. Cameron Bayne’s 12 wins is tied for the most by a Winston-Salem pitcher during the Dash era (Matt Heidenreich, 2015). Taylor Thompson wrapped up a record 15 saves over 41 strong outings.

2012: BEST IN FULL-SEASON MiLB

The 2012 season was one for the record books. Winston-Salem claimed both the first- and second- QUICK HITS - 2012 half Southern Division championships, hosted First Half Record (Finish)...... 44-25-1 (1st) Second Half Record (Finish)...... 43-26 (1st) the -Carolina League All-Star Game, Overall Record...... 87-51-1 (1st) recorded the best record in full-season Minor Playoffs...... 2-1 vs. Myrtle Beach in SDCS League Baseball and advanced to the Mills Cup ...... 1-3 vs. Lynchburg in MCCS Championship Series. Manager...... Tommy Thompson Winston and Salem waged quite a battle for the first-half crown. The Dash rattled off victories in nine of their last 10 games to hold off a Salem squad that won 41 games before the All-Star Break. Three Dash players— Michael Earley and Brady Shoemaker and right-hander Matt Heidenreich—started in the Midsummer Classic, which took place at BB&T Ballpark for the first time. Shoemaker won the pregame , and the Carolina League cruised to a 9-1 victory. In the second half, the Dash’s roster experienced significant changes, but the club kept rolling. Winston-Salem graduated 22 players to either Double-A Birmingham or Triple-A Charlotte during the season. At one point in the second half, Winston won 20 of 24 games (July 23-August 17), and the club only endured consecutive losses once in the final 40 contests of the regular season. DASH TO MLB (in 2012) Name (Years with Dash)...... MLB Debut On the penultimate day of the regular season, the RHP Nate Jones (2008-10)...... Apr. 8 Dash won their 87th game and clinched the best OF (2009)...... Aug. 6 mark among all 120 full-season Minor League clubs. Winston-Salem nipped Asheville (88-52; Low-A, Colorado) and Indianapolis (89-55; Triple-A, Pittsburgh) for the top spot. Winston-Salem’s .630 winning percentage was the second-best showing for the franchise since it joined the Carolina League as a charter member in 1945. Only the 1950 Winston-Salem Cardinals had a better mark. The Cardinals’ 106-47 (.693) record is the best in CL history. In the 100-plus seasons of Winston-Salem baseball, only the 1911 (72-37, .661) and 1950 clubs have recorded better winning percentages than the 2012 Dash. Myrtle Beach proved to be a significant challenge for Winston-Salem in the SDCS, but the Dash overcame a Game 1 loss and a seventh-inning deficit in Game 2 to emerge victorious in the best- of-three set. However, Lynchburg sprung the upset in the Mills Cup Finals by splitting the first two games in the Triad and escaping with a pair of one- run victories in Virginia. While Winston-Salem was once again a playoff contender on the field, the 2013 season belonged QUICK HITS - 2013 to the fans and their remarkable support of the First Half Record (Finish)...... 38-32 (2nd) franchise since its move into BB&T Ballpark. On Second Half Record (Finish)...... 33-37 (4th) May 16, the Dash welcomed the one millionth fan Overall Record...... 71-69 (3rd) in BB&T Ballpark’s history. Playoffs...... Did not qualify Manager...... Ryan Newman BB&T Ballpark reached this milestone quicker than any facility in Class A-Advanced history. That night marked just the 222nd Dash game in BB&T Ballpark history, and the Dash had averaged better than 4,500 fans per night over three-plus seasons to accomplish the record-setting feat.

To celebrate the occasion, the Dash gave one lucky fan the chance to win one million dollars. Alisa Keegan was the randomly-selected fan who played a game of chance on the field. Keegan did not win the grand prize, but she did go home with two Dash tickets for life.

Sept. 4 RHP (2013)...... Sept. 4 Winston C Miguel Gonzalez (2012)...... Sept. 10 was a factor in the second half until an eight-game losing streak from August 11-18. This included the first sweep for an opponent in BB&T Ballpark’s history (August 14-16 vs. Salem), which snapped a run of 81 home sets without suffering the wrong end of a brooming.

However, the Dash, playing for pride, immediately responded with a 10-game win streak. This surge included a walk-off Joey DeMichele registered three walk-off hits, grand slam by Joey DeMichele, the first hit of its kind in BB&T including BB&T Ballpark’s first walk-off grand Ballpark’s history, on August 24. slam on August 24 against Myrtle Beach. Steady infielder Chris Curley capped the Dash’s run of three consecutive MVP awards by leading the Carolina League with 24 homers and 92 RBIs, the latter of which represents the second-highest mark in the Dash era. Even though the Dash’s record was not what the players and coaching staff wanted at the start of the QUICK HITS - 2014 First Half Record (Finish)...... 30-39 (3rd) season, the club boasted one of the most prospect- Second Half Record (Finish)...... 31-39 (4th) laden rosters in Minor League Baseball in 2014. Overall Record...... 61-78 (4th) Winston-Salem was the only team in all of Minor Playoffs...... Did not qualify League Baseball to have its parent club’s first draft Manager...... Tommy Thompson selection from the 2012, 2013 and 2014 June Draft on its roster.

Outfielder Courtney Hawkins (13th overall, 2012) spent the entire season with the Dash, and he led the club in both home runs (19) and RBIs (84). He also raised his batting average from .178 to .249 after a tough initial go-around in the Carolina League in DASH TO MLB (in 2014) 2013, his first full professional season. Name (Years with Dash)...... MLB Debut INF Carlos Sanchez (2012)...... July 13 (17th overall, 2013) was RHP Taylor Thompson (2010-12)...... July 20 one of the most dynamic players in the CL. Southpaw Carlos Rodon (3rd overall, 2014) stormed through the White Sox system and ended the campaign in Triple-A Charlotte. Rodon, the Sox highest selection since was the number one overall pick in 1977, shined during his three-year college career at North Carolina State. The Holly Springs, N.C., native is one of four in ACC history to record more than 400 strikeouts (436). Rodon guided the Wolfpack to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and 2013. He became the first freshman to win ACC Pitcher of the Year in 2012. One year later, Rodon led the program to its first College appearance since 1968. After a strong rookie season (9-6, 3.75 ERA in 26 appearances) in 2015, he is now a key cog within the White Former NC State star Carlos Rodon shined for Sox starting rotation. At the end of a disappointing first half, during which the Dash posted a CL-worst 30-40 record, QUICK HITS - 2015 the team created a new rally cry for the rest of the First Half Record (Finish)...... 30-40 (4th) season--the Playoff Dash. Most members of the Second Half Record (Finish)...... 45-23 (1st) 2015 Dash had never experienced playoff baseball Overall Record...... 75-63 (2nd) at the professional level. However, their efforts Playoffs...... 1-2 vs. Myrtle Beach in SDCS in the second half would not only yield them a Manager...... Tim Esmay postseason berth, but they resulted in one of the most remarkable turnarounds in league history.

Winston-Salem’s 30-40 first half record was the worst of the Dash era, and the club remained in sole possession of last place for the final 50 days of the first half. In the second half, however, the Dash enjoyed at least a share of the top spot in the Southern Division for all but one day (August 19).

DASH TO MLB (in 2015) A key to the Dash’s success was their ability to win Name (Years with Dash)...... MLB Debut close games. Winston-Salem was a league-leading INF (2013)...... This great work earned the Dash a spot in the Southern Division Championship Series against Myrtle Beach. Winston- Salem doubled up the Pelicans 4-2 in Game 1 at BB&T Ballpark, but the Dash dropped a pair of one-run decisions in South Carolina to fall in the best-of-three set. In both losses, the Dash had the potential tying run at third base in the ninth inning. The Pelicans went on to sweep Wilmington en route to the Mills Cup title.

Even though Winston-Salem fell short of its first championship since 2003, the club still posted the 19th-best single-half record in league history. Since the CL went to the split-season The Dash had never clinched a playoff spot at format in 1970, only eight other teams followed up a 40-loss BB&T Ballpark until August 29, 2015, which first half with a 40-win second half. The Dash’s 45-23 mark capped one of the biggest turnarounds in Carolina after the All-Star Break was this circuit’s best second-half League history. showing since Salem’s 47-23 effort in 1987.

Several Winston-Salem stars put together league- leading and record-setting seasons statistically during QUICK HITS - 2016 an up-and-down 2016 season for the Dash. First Half Record (Finish)...... 28-42 (4th) Second Half Record (Finish)...... 28-41 (3rd) Overall Record...... 56-83 (3rd) For the second time in five years, the Dash boasted Playoffs...... Did not qualify the two top hitters in the Carolina League. Mason Manager...... Robbins posted a .314 average, while Nick Basto finished with a .308 mark. On the rubber, Dash right- hander Jordan Stephens racked up 155 strikeouts, the most by a Winston-Salem hurler in Dash history and the highest by a Carolina Leaguer since 2012.

Stephens was part of a strong starting rotation for Winston-Salem. While the aforementioned right-hander was the only member to remain with the Dash the entire year, the other four starters all reached Double-A Birmingham by the end of the season. Midseason Carolina League All-Star Matt Cooper led the Minor Leagues in strikeouts after his final outing with Winston-Salem (95 through June 13). Despite his mid-June promotion to the Southern DASH TO MLB (in 2016) League, Cooper still finished in a tie for 13th on the Name (Years with Dash)...... MLB Debut circuit in strikeouts. Also, ranked prospects Spencer RHP J.B. Wendelken (2014)...... May 8 Adams and Thad Lowry made second-half jumps to OF Jason Coats (2014)...... June 4 the Southern League. INF Tim Anderson (2014)...... June 10 RHP (2014)...... June 11 The 2016 season was another milestone year for RHP (2015)...... June 14 BB&T Ballpark. For just the second time in franchise history, someone with past Major League managerial experience was the Winston-Salem skipper. Joel Skinner, who was Cleveland’s interim manager during the second half of the 2002 season, took over the reins in 2016.

Ultimately, the Dash never found their footing. After finishing 28-42 in the first half, the team went just 28- 41 in the second half. At 56-83 overall, it was the worst showing for the Winston-Salem franchise since going 50-90 in 2002.

Nonetheless, the Dash achieved new feats throughout the season. Third baseman Gerson Montilla, who TEAM LEADERS (* = among qualifiers) finished second in the Minors with 11 sacrifice flies, Batting Average*...... Mason Robbins (.314) hit for the first cycle in the Dash era on April 22 at Home Runs...... Gerson Montilla (13) Salem. Five days later, the aforementioned Robbins RBIs...... Gerson Montilla (74) accomplished the same feat at home against Earned Run Average*.... Jordan Stephens (3.45) Lynchburg. Also, on July 27 at BB&T Ballpark, the Strikeouts...... Jordan Stephens (155) team accomplished a Dash first by stringing together Saves...... Connor Walsh (5) three consecutive home runs (Basto, Marcus Davis and Telvin Nash) against Frederick.

While Winston-Salem struggled on the field, a record-setting nine Dash alumni earned their first promotions to the Major Leagues throughout the 2016 season. This group included former White Sox first-round picks Carson Fulmer and Tim Anderson.

Not even a 56-84 overall record, the worst mark of the Dash era, could overshadow the QUICK HITS - 2017 abundance of talent that made its way through First Half Record (Finish)...... 24-46 (5th) Winston-Salem in 2017. Second Half Record (Finish)...... 32-38 (4th) Overall Record...... 56-84 (5th) Headlining the star-studded cast was Carolina Playoffs...... Did not qualify League Year-End All-Star Eloy Jimenez, who set Manager...... the circuit on fire during his short time in the Dash purple. On July 13, Jimenez was dealt to the Chicago White Sox from the in a trade that included Matt Rose and Bryant Flete and right-handed pitcher in exchange for big league left-hander Jose Quintana.

After already earning CL Midseason All-Star honors prior to the trade, Jimenez continued to dominate, blasting eight homers and collecting 26 RBIs in 29 games as a member of the Dash. The right-handed slugger was named White Sox Minor League Co-Player of the Month for August, and he compiled a slash line of .345/.410/.682 during his brief stint in DASH TO MLB (in 2017) Winston-Salem. He was also one of three White Sox prospects to represent the parent club in the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Entering the 2019 season, Eloy Jimenez is rated as the top prospect in the White Sox system The backstop provided one of the highlights of the season, blasting a by MLB.com. walk-off grand slam against the on July 10, only one day after playing in the Futures Game.

On the mound, Winston-Salem sported two of the top threats in the Minors. Right-hander Alec Hansen, who led all MiLB hurlers with 191 strikeouts, made 11 starts at the High-A level and went 4-5 with a 2.93 ERA and 82 punchouts. Fellow right-hander also made his presence known with the Dash. Dunning, who was acquired by Chicago during the previous offseason from Washington, finished tied for 11th in the Minors with 168 strikeouts.

However, Winston-Salem struggled to string TEAM LEADERS (* = among qualifiers) together wins on a consistent basis for a second Batting Average*...... Bryant Flete (.276) straight year. The Dash were in last place Home Runs...... Zack Collins (17) throughout the entire first half, finishing 24-46. RBIs...... 2018: AN AWARD-WINNING SEASON

2018 proved to be a banner year for the Dash franchise. Armed with one of the most talented QUICK HITS - 2018 teams in all of Minor League Baseball, the Dash First Half Record (Finish)...... 41-29 (1st) topped the Carolina League in wins, clinched a Second Half Record (Finish)...... 43-25 (1st) first- and second-half Southern Division title and Overall Record...... 84-54 (1st) received a circuit-best four CL Year-End awards. Playoffs...... 0-3 vs. Buies Creek in SDCS Manager...... Omar Vizquel Leading the club was Carolina League Manager of the Year Omar Vizquel, a former three-time MLB All-Star and 11-time Gold Glove winner. Making his managerial debut, Vizquel guided the team to an 84-54 overall record, good for the fourth-best winning percentage in full-season Minor League Baseball.

On the field, a staggering 16 of the White Sox top 30 prospects per MLB Pipeline last year suited up in the Dash purple, including CL Year-End All-Stars and Micker Adolfo, former Wake Forest star and 2018 MLB Pipeline Pitcher of the Year Dylan Cease, who led the Carolina League with 89 strikeouts before his promotion to Double-A Birmingham.

DASH TO MLB (in 2018) Early on, Winston-Salem’s star-studded squad Name (Years with Dash)...... MLB Debut showed they were worthy of the hype. In their home RHP (2015)...... April 4 opener on April 12, the Dash earned a thrilling walk- RHP (2017)...... June 4 off win against the Carolina Mudcats when Joel RHP (2017)...... June 3 Booker stole home plate in the 10th inning. Two days later against the Muddies, the team posted the first four-homer inning in Dash history as part of a 6-5, walk-off win.

Thanks to a 12-2 stretch in early June, Winston-Salem clinched a first-half Southern Division title, their first since 2012. With their magic number down to two entering play on June 14, the Dash defeated Wilmington 8-2 and second-place Buies Creek lost to Potomac. Winston-Salem finished the first half with a 41-29 record, which was the best mark in the league.

Despite seven players graduating to Double-A Birmingham at the halfway point, the Dash managed to play even better in the second half. First-half Kannapolis stars Blake Battenfield, Luis Gonzalez, , Tyler Johnson, and Laz Rivera continued their impressive seasons at the High-A level. Meanwhile, uber-prospect and the White Sox 2018 first-round pick joined the club permanently later in the year.

Similar to the first-half team, the second-half Dash posted several signature wins, including a 14-5 win over the Down East Wood Ducks on July 4th in front of a BB&T Ballpark-record 9,011 fans. On the final day of the season, Winston-Salem clinched a second-half Southern Division championship by beating Down East 5-3 in Kinston.

MANAGER JUSTIN JIRSCHELE BIOGRAPHY

Only 28 years old, Justin Jirschele is the 48th manager in Winston-Salem’s franchise history, and he is the first former player in the Dash era (2009-present) to become the team’s skipper. Prior to joining the Dash, Jirschele served as the manager of the Low-A Kannapolis Intimidators for the previous two seasons, helping the team reach the playoffs in back-to-back years. Jirschele was named the White Sox Minor League Coach of the Year in 2017. He will be the youngest manager in full-season Minor League Baseball this year.

Before joining the coaching ranks, Jirschele, the son of third base coach Mike Jirschele, played in the White Sox system from 2012-2015. Jirschele recorded a .315 average with the Dash in 2014, and he played two games in Winston in 2015. Jirschele reached as high as Triple-A in his career, logging stints with the in 2014 and 2015.

PITCHING COACH MATT ZALESKI

BIOGRAPHY Zaleski, who pitched for parts of four seasons with Winston-Salem from 2006-09, returns to the Dash for a second straight year. A 30th- round pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2004 out of Indiana State, Zaleski spent 11 seasons in the Minors, reaching as high as Triple-A Charlotte. Zaleski made 316 appearances in his professional career, of which 110 were starts. Zaleski finished his playing career with Charlotte in 2014. Two years later, he made his debut as a pitching coach with rookie-level Great Falls in 2016, where he helped guide the Voyagers’ pitching staff to the best ERA in the Pioneer League. After one season in Low-A Kannapolis, Zaleski was promoted to Winston-Salem, where he helped 10 pitchers earn promotions within the White Sox system by season’s end, including the team’s en- tire Opening Day rotation of Dylan Cease, Dane Dunning, , and .

In 2017, Dismuke worked with Midseason SAL All-Stars and future Dash alums Joel Booker, Mitch Roman and while holding the hitting coach role in Kannapolis. In 2015 and 2016, Dismuke was the hitting coach for the Double-A . The Syracuse, N.Y., native began his coaching career with the in 1999 in Chattanooga, and he spent 10 seasons as a coach in the Reds system before spending the next six years as a hitting coach in the Braves organization (2009-14). Prior to his coaching career, Dis- muke played nine seasons in the Minors with Cincinnati, and Toronto from 1989-1997, reaching as high as the Triple-A level.

ATHLETIC TRAINER HYEON KIM BIOGRAPHY Kim enters his first season working as the head trainer in Winston-Salem, replacing three-time Carolina League Trainer of the Year Josh Fallin, who has been promoted to Triple-A Charlotte. Last year, Kim was the athletic trainer for -level , the lone team in the White Sox system to claim a league championship in 2018. A graduate of and at Montgomery, Kim worked for Select Medical from 2010-2017 as an Outreach Ath- letic Trainer.

STRENGTH COACH GEORGE TIMKE BIOGRAPHY Timke comes back to Winston-Salem for his fourth season as the team’s strength coach. During his first season in 2016, Timke earned the Carolina League’s Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year award, as announced by the Profes- sional Baseball Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society (PBSCCS). The Suf- fern, N.Y., native began his White Sox tenure with short-season Great Falls in 2013 before working in Low-A Kannapolis in 2014 and 2015. MEDIA RULES & REGULATIONS PARKING: Media parking is available behind the players lot on South Green Street. This is also our “Pepsi Carolina Plan” parking lot, which does fill up during most home games. Please present your parking pass to the attendant and indicate that you are a member of the media. If you have significant equipment (cameras, lighting, TV truck, etc.), we do have very limited parking along Ballpark Way, near the groundskeeping entrance and the right-field foul pole. Please give the Dash at least 8 hours notice if you would like to request a spot along the curb in this area. 2019 CREDENTIALS: Credentials are for working media only and are property of the Winston-Salem Dash. They may be revoked at any time. Credentials must be worn and visible at all times. DAILY CREDENTIALS: Credentials will be issued to news gathering organizations which do not qualify for, or request, season credentials. To obtain credentials, your request must be made via email to the Dash Media Relations Department. Once your initial request has been approved, you may phone-in subsequent requests. All single-game credential requests MUST be submitted to the Dash Media Relations Department via email ([email protected]) by noon on the day of all 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. games. If the Dash have an afternoon game (first pitch of 4 p.m. or earlier), the request must be made by 9 a.m. on that day. ADMISSION: Members of the working media can only gain entrance to BB&T Ballpark through the main gates in right- center field, below the scoreboard. Those who need to pick up daily credentials may do so through the Will Call window at the Dash Box Office, located behind the scoreboard. Upon picking up their daily credentials, media must enter BB&T Ballpark through either the Flow Club entrance or the main entrance near the Box Office. Credentials will not be honored at any other entrance. VIDEOTAPING: Videotaping during games is limited to designated filming areas of BB&T Ballpark. During pregame and postgame, taping on the field and is at the discretion of the Dash Field Staff and Media Relations Staff. FIELD LEVEL: Only credentialed members of the media are allowed on the field level at BB&T Ballpark. While on the field, media must remain on the warning track and off the grass. Media must clear the field at least thirty (30) minutes prior to scheduled game time. CLUBHOUSE: The clubhouse is off-limits to the media an hour before game time and until ten (10) minutes following a game. Please allow a member of the Dash Media Relations Staff to arrange all requested postgame interviews. Availability to the clubhouse is at the discretion of the Dash Field Staff and cannot always be guaranteed during normal open times. Contact a member of the Dash Media Relations Staff regarding clubhouse access. The training room is strictly off-limits at all times. Also, please note that there is no media availability between games of a or during rain delays. PRESS BOX: The press box is located on the main concourse level of BB&T Ballpark behind home plate. No food or drink is allowed to leave the press box area. The press box is available to the working media only. No spouses, guests, or children of credentialed media will be allowed in the press box. The press box closes one (1) hour after the conclusion of the game. During select games, the media workspace will shift into the television box on the first-base side of the press box. STATISTICS & INFORMATION: Game notes and statistical information will be available in the press box at least two hours before game time. If specific information is needed beforehand, please contact the Dash Media Relations Department. INTERVIEWS: Pregame interviews take place after batting practice, which can vary from day to day. All interview requests should be submitted to the Dash Media Relations Staff 24 hours before the desired interview time. Check with the Dash Media Relations Staff regarding interviews during road trips or at times aside from the regular clubhouse hours. Players are not available for interviews on team off days, including the All-Star Break. BATTING PRACTICE: Members of the media are welcome to attend batting practice but cannot interview players during batting practice. A Dash representative will be on the field at all times during batting practice to answer questions and monitor activity.
