SATYJIT RAY

The versatile Indian film director Satyajit Ray was born on 2nd May in the year of 1921 in Calcutta. He has donned several roles in his legendary life time. He started his career as a commercial artist and then was soon drawn to independent film making being heavily influenced by the French film maker Jean Renoir. He was also a brilliant fiction writer, a skilled illustrator, a publisher a born calligrapher, a talented music composer, an insightful graphic designer, last but not the least a film critic too.He had completed his graduation at Presidency college and his post graduation at Viswabharathi university. He rose to quick fame and renown for his classical endeavour“Pather Panchali“ . He got wide acclaims for the same .It was even followed by a triology. Charulatha ,sonar khella ,Aparajitho are some of his gems to name a few.He has bagged numerous awards , the one being Dadasaheb phalke award ,the highest award in cinema in the year of 1984 and Bharat ratna,the highest civillian award also found its way to Ray’s hands in the year , 1922.He had won almost 32national awards for his direction including Padmashri and Padmavibhushan.He is a man of impeccable skills at various fields.He had silently walked out of life on 23rd April 1992, leaving the world of cinema and literature in an acute cultural void…
