INTRODUCTION Criminal profiling probably would not be receiving the attention it is today by the scientific community were it not for the attention it has been given by the media, in its various forms (movies, TV, novels, press, etc.). Public impressions are greatly influenced by the media, not always in positive ways. The hype and spin associated with criminal profiling is such that an informal survey of college students (criminal justice and psychology majors, in particular) would reveal a large percent stating that they intend to become profilers. The reality of profiling has been lost in the continual sensationalization of the practice by those who like to titillate others. FRIENDS DAY/FACEBOOK’S BIRTHDAY – February 4 is 'Friends Day,’ aka Facebook’s birthday. The day is a way to celebrate people connected through Facebook, even if it’s just your crazy uncle. Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook in 2004 from his dorm room at Harvard as a way for students to connect with friends (but really it was a way for nerds to rank hot chicks).

After graduating in 1964, Harris worked as a crime reporter for a local newspaper and he also worked as an international crime reporter in Mexico (―Thomas Harris‖); the vivid descriptions of crimes in his novels are likely based on crimes in real life. Moreover, Harris‘s first novel, Black Sunday, was a best-seller, though it did not revolve around a specific criminal; in fact, it portrays a terrorist attack. The success of Black Sunday ensured the publication of his second novel in 1981, namely Red Dragon. In Red Dragon, veteran FBI officer Will Graham is ordered by his superior to cooperate with a criminal, who he has arrested before, namely Dr. Lecter. Together, they seek to find a serial killer called the Tooth Fairy.
