FÜGGELÉK A „Függelékében közölt mutatók feladata az, hogy a kötet használatát megkönnyít­ sék, így az egyes adatok kikeresését meggyorsítsák, az összefüggő kérdések gyors áttekintését lehetővé tegyék. Ezt a célt tartotta szem előtt a Szerkesztő Bizottság, amikor a korábban követett gyakorlattól eltérően a Függelék-füzetben csak két mutatót közöl: Rendszertani mutatót és ún. Általános mutatót. A Rendszertani Mutatóban a kötetben előforduló és rendszertani szem­ pontból tárgyalt valamennyi taxon latin nevét felsoroljuk, ún. supraspecifikus (faj feletti) és infraspecifikus (faj alatti) csoportosításban. Az Általános mutatóban pedig a rendszertani szempontból tárgyalt taxonok magyar nevein kívül olyan latin és magyar neveket, illetve kifejezéseket sorolunk fel, amelyek a kötetben szereplő állatok életmódjára, elsősorban táp­ lálkozására jellemzőek. így megszüntettük a korábbi Függelék-füzetek Tárgymutatójának nehezen kezelhető és kevésbé áttekinthető tagoltságát, mert az Általános mutató egyetlen betű rendben hoz minden olyan tételt, amely természeténél fogva nem sorolható a latin Rendszer­ tani mutatóba. A Rendszertani mutatóban dőlt (kurzív) betűkkel szedett nevek szinonimok, vagyis a régebbi irodalomban előforduló, ma már azonban nem érvényes nevek. A mutatókban a nevek után álló félkövér szám (7 -1 0 ) a füzet számát, az erre követ­ kező szám pedig a megfelelő füzet oldalszámát jelenti. Ha ez a szám a tárgyalt taxon határozó­ kulcsban szereplésére, leírására utal, akkor antikva (álló), ha viszont ábrát jelez, akkor kurzív {dőlt) betűkből szedett. Az ábraaláírásokban az egyes állatok — kevés kivételtől eltekintve — latin nevükön szerepelnek, ezekre dőlt számokkal utalunk. Az oldalszámokból nem derül ki, hogy a jelzett oldalon a taxon vagy egyéb adat hányszor fordul elő, az adatok kikeresésekor legyünk erre figyelemmel. A kötetben szereplő infraspecifikus taxonok (alfajok, változatok stb.) egy része aberrá­ ció és forma. A gyorsabb tájékoztatás érdekében a faj alatti kategóriák nevei után zárójelben megadtuk a teljes faji nevet, majd a kategória rangjának (pl. ab.) rövidítését. A magyar állatnevek írásmódját a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia szabályzata (A ma­ gyar állatnevek helyesírási szabályai. Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, 1958) írja elő. A mutatók­ ban a magyar állatneveket ennek megfelelően közöljük, még abban az esetben is, ha a koráb­ ban megjelent füzetek azokat ettől eltérően írták. Az eddigi gyakorlattól eltérően azonban a magyar neveket nem minden esetben hozzuk a jelzőjük betűrendjében, hanem csak akkor, ha a név nagyobb állatcsoportot jelöl. Egyébként mindig a rendszertani helyre utaló, tehát a nemzetségnevet meghatározó elnevezés kezdőbetűje szerint soroltuk a nevet a betűrendbe. Ugyanez vonatkozik a magyar növénynevek írásmódjára is. Ebben a tekintetben Soó~ J ávorka: A magyar növényvilág kézikönyve (Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, 1951) névhaszná­ latát vettük alapul. A füzetek a gazdanövényeket magyar és latin nevükön vegyesen említik. Az egységes kép kialakítása érdekében ezért a magyar növényneveket a latin névhez utaltuk, ha a füzetek­ ben mindkét név szerepel. Ha csak magyar vagy csak latin nevén szerepel a taxon, akkor természetesen előfordulásuk oldalszámát minden utalás nélkül a füzetben írt névhez vettük fel. Biotópokra csak abban az esetben utaltunk, ha azok gazdaságilag jelentősek, és így a gyakor­ lat számára különösen fontosak, vagy pedig ha az állat ottani előfordulása felismerésüket nagymértékben megkönnyíti. Társulási viszonyokkal ugyanis a faunamunka csak kivételesen foglalkozik, a biotópokat teljes terjedelemben felsoroló mutató pedig aránytalanul nagy lenne, és ennek ellenére sem adna teljes képet. A határozás megkönnyítését vagy az összetéveszthető­ ség esetét kivéve nem vettük fel a mutatóba a szöveg hasonlatosságokra utalásait, és nem vettük fel az egyes taxonok elterjedésére vonatkozó állatföldrajzi adatokat sem. A mutató korábban tartalmazta a szerzők nevének esetleges rövidítéseit feloldó össze­ állítást. Miután 1975-ben ennek összesítésére a faunamunka 122. füzetében sor került, azóta pedig a taxonok leíróinak nevét, a leírás évszámával teljes egészében közöljük, ez felesle­ gessé vált. A helyesbítéseket és az értelemzavaró sajtóhibákat a Corrigenda sorolja fel, a szöveg kisebb jelentőségű és nem értelemzavaró hibáit viszont a mutatóban már helyesbítve hozzuk.
