5 GROVE CITY COLLEGE SEASON PREVIEW The Grove City College men’s basketball team will rely on a diverse corps of veterans and a sprinkling of newcomers this winter as the Wolverines pursue the Presidents’ Athletic Conference title and a fourth con- secutive postseason appearance. The 2009-10 Wolverines feature several familiar faces from last year’s squad that advanced to the East- ern College Athletic Conference Southern Champion- ship Tournament. Seniors Joe McCoy and Andy O’Keefe return after starting all 25 games last year. The 6-foot-1 McCoy averaged 11 points per game last year and led the Wol- verines with 48 three-point goals. He also shot 90 percent at the foul line. A fifth-year senior, McCoy is a three-year letterman at guard. He will likely see time at the point in addition to starting at shooting guard. O’Keefe is back for his third year as Grove City’s starting center. The 6-7 pivotman led Grove City in scor- ing (12.8) and rebounding (4.6) average last year. He also shot 59 percent from the floor and distributed 57 assists. The Wolverines also return a pair of third-year per- formers in Luke Tomaselli and Bryn Moran. Tomaselli is back after missing last season due to injury. A gifted athlete, the 6-1 Tomaselli can play four positions and UTLOOK will be the Wolverines’ defensive stopper.

O Moran is a two-year veteran in the backcourt and Sophomore guard Cody Fleeger is a returning will battle for time at point guard. S time starters in 2008-09. Swingman Drew Vandermeer made 13 starts last year and will compete for one of the starting forward positions this year. The 6-6 Vandermeer finished second on the team in blocked shots as a freshman and can score both inside and outside at the offensive end. Guard Cody Fleeger made seven starts and played in all 25 games as a freshman. A defensive ace, Fleeger will either start or be one of the Wolverines’ top re- serves this year. Sophomore Brett Matson started the final three games of his rookie season and will likely start at point guard for Grove City. Matson shot 53 percent from behind the three- point line and 48 percent overall from the field last year. Matson also led Grove City in assist-to-turnover ratio as a freshman. Twelfth-year head coach Steve Lamie also expects some newcomers to make immediate contributions this year as the Wolverines look to establish depth after losing seven letterwinners. The Wolverines will host Thomas More December Senior center Andy O’Keefe is a two-year starter 2 in the PAC opener. That will also be Grove City’s and three-year letterman for Grove City. home opener in the historic Grove City College Arena.

PROGRAM HISTORY

Since its inception in the 1898-99 season, the Grove City College men’s basketball team has com- piled over 1,100 wins and numerous championships while producing an innumerable number of outstand- ing players. Grove City began play late in the 1898-99 season with a 32-9 loss at Allegheny in Meadville, Pa. After winning just three of its first 13 games in the first three seasons, Grove City found success in early years of the 20th Century. Edward Campbell took over as player-head coach in 1901 and directed the Wolverines to Tri-State cham- pionships in 1903 and 1905. In his four seasons as head coach, Campbell compiled a 50-13 mark.
