Alexis Preski to Compete in USA ’s Missouri Grand Prix Meet

Springfield, IL – February 2, 2012 -- Springfield USA Aquatics’ Alexis Preski will compete in the USA Swimming’s Missouri Grand Prix swim meet scheduled for February 10-12, 2012 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbus, Missouri.

The USA Swimming Grand Prix Series serves as an opportunity for swimmers to race against some of the best competition in the country as they continue their preparation for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. as well as the 2012 in London. Other stops on the 2011-2012 Grand Prix Series include: Austin, Texas; Columbia, Mo.; Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis, Ind.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Santa Clara, Calif.

Preski will compete in the 100 meter , 200 meter breaststroke, 200 meter butterfly and 400 meter individual medley at the meet. At 14 years old, Preski is the youngest competitor entered in the meet. This will be her second appearance in the Missouri Grand Prix meet having competed in the meet in 2011 as well. Preski also competed in the 2011 Minneapolis Grand Prix meet.

Over 25 former Olympians are entered in the meet including US stars , , , , , and , César Cielo of , the world-record-holder in the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyle and the defending Olympic gold-medalist in the 50 is also entered in the meet.

The meet will mark the third stop of the 2011-2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series. The Series will conclude June 2, 2012 in Santa Clara, Calif. Gold medalists in each Olympic-distance event receive five points, silver medalists three points, and bronze medalists, one point. At the conclusion of the Series, the top scoring swimmer will be awarded $20,000. A leaderboard can be found on USA Swimming’s Grand Prix page: www.usaswimming.org/grandprix.

The top 24 finishers in each event advance out of the morning preliminaries to the evening finals each day. Preliminaries in Columbus will start at 9 a.m. CT Friday through Sunday, with finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. each day. Visit www.usaswimming.org for a complete schedule of events.
