CRISTINA GUARINO Mezzosoprano

Born in Trieste. She made her debut at a very young age at the Verdi Theatre in Trieste, in J. Strauss’ Wiener Blut in the role of Lisi directed by Maestro Uwe Theimer and in J. Massenet’s Werther in the role of Katchen, directed by Maestro Tiziano Severini. She kept on studying Lyric Singing with several famous Masters, among which: Maestro Campogalliani, Rina Malatrasi, Fedora Barbieri, Maestro Pola, Maestro Alain Billard, Maestro Elio Battaglia at the Saltzburg Mozarteum, at the International Vocal Academy of Parma and Master Class in Milan, Maestro Kurt Widmer at the Academy of Basel and the Vocalis Tirolensis Academy of Worgl (Austria) and Eva Novsak mezzosoprano at the Academy of Ljubljana. Winner of the Mythos Contest for Verdian Solo Singers in Busseto, promoted by the Arturo Toscanini Foundation of Parma and announced by the EU and by the Emilia Romagna Region. Winner of the Lyric Contest MSC of "Bel Canto”- Lara Volpi Award. Finalist at the following International Contests: Viotti (Vercelli), Zandonai (Rovereto) and Iris Adami Corradetti (Padova). She attended a High Improvement Internship for Verdi solo singers in Busseto with Renato Bruson, Leo Nucci, Placido Domingo, Virginia Zeani and Maestro Alain Billard and Stage Art Internship with Beppe De Tomasi. She began her Career in Italy and abroad in several Theatres and Festivals collecting a great approval from both audience and critics in her debuts as Main character in the following : Il Trovatore by G.Verdi (Azucena), Aida by G.Verdi (Amneris), Un ballo in maschera by G.Verdi (Ulrica), Messa da Requiem by G.Verdi (Mezzosoprano),Nabucco by G.Verdi (Fenena), Adriana Lecouvreur by Cilea (Princess of Boullion), Gianni Schicchi by G.Puccini (Zita) and also in Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni (Lola e Mamma Lucia). Extremely appreciated for her musicality, her drama voice and for her typically Verdian temperament, she worked with several directors and conductors, in Italy and abroad, such as: M°Ronald Shaider conductor of the Wiener Staatsoper Orchestra, M°Marko Letonja , M°Leone Magera, M°Sergio La Stella and she sang in worldwide vision for the Vatican "Missa Solemnis" together with Parma’s Arturo Toscanini Orchestra directed by M°Stelvio Cipriani.She also worked with M°Fabrizio Milani, M°Francesco Chirivi', M°Maffeo Scarpis, M° Yosyph Sozanskyy and the Chernivtsi Philarmonic Society orchestra,(Curci theatre of Barletta, Kennedy theatre of Fasano and “Gran Teatro Geox” of Padova), M°Susanna Pescetti, M°Lorenzo Castriota, M°Stefano Romani, M° Francesco Di Mauro, M° Lorenzo Bizzarri, M°Simonetta Tancredi. Again, truly appreciated by various directors, such as: Fausto Cosentino, Filippo Crivelli , Beppe de Tomasi, Giammaria Romagnoli, Alberto Umbrella, Eddy Lovaglio, Ivan Suen and the well-known Wiener Staatsoper international director Marta Lantieri. She recorded for, RAI television and Slovenian television, arias from the and chamber music repertoire, accompanied by the “Camerata Labacensis” of Ljubljana and directed by M° Ausenek. She was next invited to hold an important Recital at the Maribor Opera Theatre. In 2006 she received the Career Narnia Award at the Narni Opera Festival and, in the same year, she was invited, as Italian Guest Singer, in South Korea in an important Tour to act and sing in the Role of Azucena in Verdi’s Il Trovatore at the Opera Gwanju Theatre, collecting the great enthusiasm of critics and audience. In 2013, on the occasion of the Bicentennial of , she was engaged on a tour in Italy. The Opera Gala for the birth of Giuseppe Verdi took place in Curci Theatre in Barletta, Kennedy Theatre in Fasano and in the “Gran Teatro Geox” in Padova. The musical events were accompanied by the Chernivtsi Philarmonic Society Orchestra, conducted by M°Yosyph Sozanskyy, and involved many great singers, such as Francesca Patanè, Marco Chingari and Paolo Antognetti. Again in July and August 2013, together with the Chernivtsi Philarmonic Society Orchestra, she went on a tour in Italy, playing the Role of Amneris in Giuseppe Verdi Aida in addition to the Opera Gala, conducted by M° Yosyph Sozanskyy, M°Susanna Pescetti and M°Lorenzo Castriota for the Aida in the occasion of the Opera Festival in Casamari (Frosinone). On November 25 she performed at the Teatro Comunale Claudio Abbado of Ferrara on a very important concert held for the ADO Association on the occasion of the Bicentennials of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi. This event hosted many important artists and got a huge success and standing ovation by both audience and critics. The concert was accompanied by the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra and by the City of Ferrara Orchestra, both directed by M° Stefano Romani, together with the Choir directed by M° Francesco Pinamonti. On April, 25 2017 she performed the role of Mamma Lucia at the Bonci Theatre in Cesena, in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, conducted by Conductor Francesco Di Mauro, together with the City of Ferrara Orchestra and directed by internationally known Giammaria Romagnoli. The event involved the participation of the Maria Callas Choir (City of Cesena) directed by M° Lorenzo Lucchi, the “Quadriclavio” Choir of Bologna directed by M° Lorenzo Bizzarri and the well know professional actress Elina Nanna; at the beginning of the opera, Nanna acted the desperation of Santuzza performing an independent written work based on the narration of the Verga’s novel, of the same name. The text had been written and edited by the critic and musicologist Maestro Edoardo Farina. Huge success for the whole cast and thunderous applauses from the audience. On November, 12 2017 she performed the role of Fenena in Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco at the Rossini Theatre in Lugo di Romagna (Ra) with the City of Ferrara Orchestra,directed by conductor M°Lorenzo Bizzarri, with the collaboration of “San Rocco Choir”of Bologna conducted by M°Marialuce Monari and the direction of Alberto Umbrella. On December, 10 2017, as a result of the huge success of audicence and critics for the performance in the role of Fenena at Rossini Theatre in Lugo di Romagna (Ra), she was invited to sing at an important Opera Concert Event at the municipal polyvalent hall in Bagnara di Romagna, for the conferment of the 36°Mascagni D'Oro award that for the current edition,was assigned to the Alberto Mastromarino by the Mascagnano Committee. The Event was presented by Mattia Gallia and the piano accompanist M° Enrico Zucca.The critic reviw writes:Very appreciated was Cristina Guarino able to understad the dramatic character of Azucena in Verdi's Trovatore as well the irresistible and seductive Dalila in “Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix” mezzosopranos favourite sublime aria by Saint-Saens. On July, 5 2018 still during the show “Notturni in musica alla Corte della Duchessa” in the historical garden of the Royal Palace of Colorno in Parma, she performed the role of Mamma Lucia in P.Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana, obtaining a remarkable outcome from audience and critics. Quadriclavio Choir and Citta' di Ferrara Orchestra both directed by Conductor M° Lorenzo Bizzarri. Direction Eddy Lovaglio. On march, 27 2019 she achieved resounding success at the Claudio Abbado Municipal Theatre of Ferrara, during the Recital Opera Event “Diritti all’Opera”organized by ADO Association of Ferrara in collaboration with the UN’s United Planet Foundation. She performed the famous arias “Stride la vampa”by G.Verdi,”Mon coeur s’ouvre a ta voix”by C.Saint-Saens,”Acerba Volutta’”by F.Cilea,”Voi lo sapete o mamma”P.Mascagni,”Habanera”by Bizet, gaining hunge success and enthusiasm from the audience.
