Jesse Hall is the main administration building for the . Constructed in 1895, the building is a Missouri landmark and has hosted many prestigious offices and functions throughout its history.

When KBIA Radio vacated the fourth floor, SOA was selected to lead the remodeling of the 5,000 s.f. space to house the Kinder Institute for Constitutional Democracy. Also included in the project scope was the renovation of the Diversity Department, relocation of the basement mail room, and the addition of an ADA accessible unisex restroom in Jesse Hall.

SOA worked with the campus’ Space Planning & Management team and the affected department Directors to develop and document a design that met each user group’s requirements. Typical of historic buildings, an asbestos abatement process was required, and the design had to navigate both code and structural challenges. The 100+ year-old building also provided design opportunities, such as the refurbishing of existing hard wood floors and the discovery of a long-hidden painting! SOA was able to include the painting, a relic of the art department located on Jesse Hall’s fourth floor until the 1960’s, in a prominent location. This painting is now the focal point of the open conference room.
