November: The 2014–15 International Skating Union Grand Prix of Figure Skating is a series of senior Emily Mayerhofer~ 11/04 international figure skating competitions in the 2014–15 season, namely, Skate America, Vanessa Pham~ 11/05 Skate Canada, Cup of China, Rostelecom Mikayla Forbes~ 11/09 Cup of Russia, Trophee Bompard in France, and NHK Trophy in Japan. Medals were Isabel Nguyen~ 11/11 awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Gabriela Escalona~ 11/15 Skaters earned points based on their Annabel Shen~ 11/21 placement at each event and the top six in each discipline qualified to compete at the December: Grand Prix Final, held in Barcelona, Spain. While Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan took the men’s Brendan Siswanto~ 12/20 title and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva of Russia Paris Cudini~ 12/27 fought her way to gold in the ladies’ event, it was two Canadian duos that came out on January: top in the pairs and dance competitions: Meagan Duhamel/Eric Radford and Kaitlyn Layla Munroe~ 1/6 Weaver/Andrew Poje. The American Alexandra Szeto-Joe~ 1/8 dancers, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, won at Skate America and Rostelecom Cup Caroline Harper~ 1/25 of Russia and placed second in the final. She earned a bronze medal for the second year in a row and proved that at 23, she remains a formidable competitor in the ladies’ field. Gracie Gold earned bronze at Skate America and gold at NHK Trophy; however, she withdrew from the GP final due to a stress fracture in her foot. HITS (Houston Ice Theatre Skaters) is a junior level theatre on ice team. Theater on Ice is a form of competitive figure skating that combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theater and dance. Featuring skaters ranging in ages 8 to 18, HITS has been competing since 2003 in national level Theatre on Ice competitions. In the Nutcracker On Ice 2014 at Ice Skate USA, the HITS skaters performed a fantastic number entitled “Skating on a Pond”.
