Ch. 40. No. 3. Grounds and Pastures. 10 of 1909. [24TH MARCH 1909] Commencement. 1. This Act may be cited as the Recreation Grounds and Short title. Pastures Act. 2. (1) The Minister may make Rules and Regulations as to Rules and the use by the public of any public recreation ground or pasture, as Regulations. to the times during which, and the terms and conditions under which, persons, horses, and carriages and other vehicles, cattle and other animals may be admitted to any such ground or pasture. (2) Any person who contravenes any such Rules and Regulations is liable, on summary conviction, before a Magistrate or Justice, to such penalty as is provided by the Rules and Regulations, or, if no penalty is so provided, to a fine of one hundred dollars. 3. Any constable within the meaning of the Police Service Power to arrest. [21 of 1990]. Act, the Municipal Corporations Act or the Supplemental Police Ch. 15:01. Ch. 25:04. Act or any other person appointed by the Minister in that behalf, Ch. 15:02. may arrest without warrant any person who, within his view, commits any breach of any rule or regulation made under this Act, if the name and address of the person is unknown to such constable or person, or if the person continues to commit the breach after being warned to desist, and detain him in custody until he can be conveniently brought before a Magistrate or Justice to be dealt with according to law. 4. ARIMA SAVANNAH REGULATIONS 23.2. 1933. made under section 2 25.2.1937. 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Arima Citation. Savannah Regulations. 2. The control, management and maintenance of the Arima Control, management, Savannah (hereinafter called “the Savannah”) are hereby vested maintenance. in the Mayor, Alderman and Burgesses of the Borough of Arima. The control, management and maintenance shall, subject to the provisions of the Races Act, apply to the buildings, enclosures and Ch. 21:51. fences erected or to be erected within the limits of the Savannah. 3. The Savannah shall be used and maintained as a public Public recreation recreation ground, and, subject to the provisions of the Races Act, ground. as a race-course. Ch. 21:51. 4. Subject to the provisions of the Races Act, no building Building. shall be erected on the Savannah except with the consent of the Ch. 21:51. Minister first had and obtained. 5. Ch. 21:51. 6. If any person shall within the limits of the Savannah— Offences. (a) bathe in or wash any animal in any trough or reservoir, or injure any trough, reservoir, water pipe or cock; (b) sit upon or damage any fence, gate or turnstile; (c) commit any nuisance by depositing any offensive matter or rubbish; (d) throw, deposit, or leave any bottles or glass, broken or otherwise, or any earthenware or old iron; UNOFFICIAL VERSION L.R.O. UPDATED TO 31ST DECEMBER 2016 LAWS OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO MINISTRY OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND LEGAL AFFAIRS www.legalaffairs.gov.tt 6 Chap. 41:01 Recreation Grounds and Pastures [Subsidiary] Arima Savannah Regulations (e) wilfully damage any seat, walk, footpath, cricket pitch, or other specially prepared recreation ground registered under these Regulations; (f) cut, trim, uproot, damage or destroy any tree, shrub or plant; (g) dig any earth, cut any grass, or remove any turf, manure or grass without permission from the Chief Executive Officer; (h) discharge any firearm without the authority of the Chief Executive Officer; (i) drive any cart, save with the special leave of the Chief Executive Officer; (j) wilfully neglect or refuse to obey the lawful orders of the Chief Executive Officer or any person authorised by him or of any member of the Police Service; (k) set or light any fire; (l) molest, obstruct or annoy any person or persons engaged in or looking on at any game or recognised sport or pastime on any ground registered for that purpose; (m) use any obscene language, throw any stone or other missile or otherwise conduct himself in a disorderly manner to the annoyance of the public, every such person shall be deemed guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of two hundred dollars. Applications. 7. Applications by Clubs for permission to use particular sites for cricket or other forms of recreation must be made to the Chief Executive Officer, who will register the application and allot sites in such localities as may in his discretion be suitable and convenient. Allotting site. 8. No site shall be allotted for a term of more than one year at any one time. Regulation 10. 9. No person shall— Prohibition. (a) sit or lie down on the paved or gravelled paths or commit any nuisance on any of the footwalks or pavements around the Arima Savannah; (b) climb or stand or sit on any part of any railing or on any tree on the footwalk or pavement; or place or expose for sale any goods, merchandise, or provisions on any such footwalk or pavement; (c) make use of any such footwalk or pavement for the purpose of shaving or clipping, or cutting the hair of any person or of any animal, or for tethering or keeping any animal on any such footwalk or pavement; (d) play any football, cricket, or other dangerous games on any such footwalk or pavement; (e) use any part of any such footwalk or pavement for skating with roller skates; (f) stand or lie down on any bench, or sit on the arm or back of any bench on any such footwalk or pavement, or affix any placard posting-bill or advertisement against or upon any bench, railing, shelter, tree or statue on any such footwalk or pavement; (g) wilfully break, destroy or damage any part of any such bench, railing, shelter or statue on any such footwalk or pavement; or (h) wilfully break, destroy, damage, take away or interfere with any tree, shrub, flower or plant on any such footwalk or pavement. 11. Department of Life Sciences, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad, West Indies Key words: checklist, Trinidad and Tobago pteridophytes, types, habitat, distribution. ABSTRACT Three hundred and two species and eight varieties or subspecies in 27 families and 77 genera of ferns and fern allies are listed. Four new combinations and states are made, and one synonym lectotypified. A serious attempt has been made to establish types; selections of specimens studied are cited. INTRODUCTION Recent studies of ferns in Trinidad and Tobago (Baksh-Comeau, 1996, 1999) have combined a review of the pteridophyte collection at The National Herbarium of Trinidad & Tobago with field surveys undertaken to assess the community status of these plants on both islands. This checklist has been developed as an integral part of those studies, but it is also an essential prerequisite to ongoing research covering a reclassification of the vegetation of the islands and to the preparation of a comprehensive vascular plant flora. The herbarium count and field survey revealed 251 species confirmed by voucher specimens housed in Trinidad. Additional species have been attributed to Trinidad or Tobago in early publications for Trinidad and in Floras and monographs for neighbouring areas. The number of species now believed to be indigenous in these islands is 282. Cultivated species that have escaped, and introductions which have become naturalized number 20. Early reports include Grisebach (1859-64) who listed 106 species; Eaton (1878) approximately 78 of the 150 or so species eventually collected by August Fendler; Jenman (1887) had about 184 species; Anon (1889) listed 206 binomials including a few introduced taxa; Jenman (1898-1909), in an incomplete coverage of the fern flora, described 140 taxa of which 10 were new species; Hart (1908), including some cultivated plants, listed 283 binomials of pteridophytes.

PREMDAS Department of Government University of the West Indies St. Augustine Trinidad and Tobago Below the surface of Trinidad's political peace exists an antagonistic ethnic monster waiting its moment of opportunity to explode!. The image of a politically stable and economically prosperous state however conceals powerful internal contradictions in the society. Many critical tensions prowl through the body politic threatening to throw the society into turmoil. Perhaps, the most salient of these tensions derives from the country's multi-ethnic population. Among the one million, two hundred thousand citizens live four distinct ethno-racial groups: Africans, Asian Indians, Europeans and Chinese. For two centuries, these groups co-existed in Trinidad, but failed to evolve a consensus of shared values so as to engender a sense of common citizenship and a shared identity.
