INSPIRING AND PREPARING YOUNG PEOPLE TO SUCCEED IN A GLOBAL ECONOMY.

Junior Achievement (JA) believes that no one can improve their circumstances without a belief in themselves and a sense of purpose. JA helps young people achieve their goals by showing students how money, careers and business ownership work with the help of volunteer role models from the community and proven programs. By providing students with work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills at an early age, Junior Achievement is helping students feel more confident about their role in society and their ability to effectively contribute in the workforce. On behalf of our board of directors and staff, I thank you for your support in helping us accomplish this here in Eastern Iowa. Because of our community’s generosity, Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa (JAEI) was able to provide relevant, hands-on economic educational programs to 43,601 kindergarten through twelfth grade students in 1,981 classrooms with the assistance of 1,319 local volunteers during the 2016-2017 academic year. That means 46.04 percent of local school-aged students benefit annually from work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy programs. Thank you! Junior Achievement deeply appreciates the corporations, foundations, and individuals who contribute to our mission of inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy here in Eastern Iowa. JAEI has made great progress in being able to provide every student in Eastern Iowa the opportunities our programs afford, but there is much more to do. We look forward to building our success and working with you to serve even more students this year.

An understanding of how the economy works is fundamental for everyone, and must be taught to kids at an early age, as it impacts their lives in so many ways. Entrepreneurship is taking an idea to reality, a path that is possible for everyone if they know how to go about it. These two concepts form the backbone of JA and must be an essential part of the curriculum for every student in our area. I can think of no better way to invest my personal time than in helping to give young people these tools for a brighter future. ” —Geof Grimes, Cedar Valley Board Member Empowerthefuture®

The JA program allows my students to interact and learn from members of the community in which they live. It exposes them to other adults, beside myself, which share information about career choices, financial decisions and what employers look for.

My students love the curriculum that we use. It is the perfect balance between lecture and purposeful game playing. They always remember their JA experiences and look forward to when our volunteers come. I am very thankful that JA is in our community and that my students get to benefit from that experience.” —Lori Wells-Adamson Counselor, Williamsburg Junior High School
