NEW! A Walk in the Woods: Native Plants of the West Duwamish Greenbelt Van Bobbitt The West Duwamish Greenbelt, which borders South Seattle College, is the largest greenbelt in the city. Named for the people who historically lived in this area, this site was once fi lled with tall western red cedar, hemlock, and Douglas fi r trees. After European settlement, the greenbelt was subject to logging, gravel mining, and a proposed highway. Today, it is the site of a major ecological restoration effort led by Nature Consortium.
