超感官暴龍展 T-Rex Revealed — The Augmented + Virtual Reality Experience

歡迎來到一個「沒有化石」的恐龍展覽。傳統的恐龍展覽可能只展出珍貴的化石和相關的圖像與及解說文字。到了今天，科技的發展突破了傳統展覽的展示方式，讓觀眾進入虛擬國度，甚至與展覽的主角互動起來。「超感官暴龍展」是首個結合尖端科技和嶄新科研成果的展覽。展覽利用擴增實境(AR)及虛擬實境(VR)技術，帶領觀眾進入栩栩如生的恐龍世界，享受一個大膽創新及身臨其境的精彩體驗。

暴龍是史上最兇猛和最有名的肉食恐龍，牠帶有鋸齒的牙如牛扒刀一樣鋒利、咬合力比現今最強的鱷魚還要強超過三倍、而速度更堪比當今的百米飛人，暴龍絕對是史前世界的無敵霸王。試想像一下，如果暴龍在你面前追尋獵物是何等震撼！這展覽透過多組以最新的AR及VR技術製作的互動展品和錄像節目，讓觀眾回到6,600萬年前的史前世界，翱遊在天際尋找恐龍的足跡，甚至在地上近距離接觸兇猛的暴龍和認識牠的身體構造及生活習性，與及了解科學家如何透過研究其頭骨，推斷出暴龍擁有的超級感官等有趣課題。想進一步發掘更多暴龍的有趣資料，那就不要錯 2 過「超感官暴龍展」。 Welcome to the dinosaur exhibition with an entirely virtual experience. In traditional dinosaur exhibitions, you may see only precious fossils, illustrations and text. But today’s advanced technology has made new presentation techniques possible, immersing visitors in a virtual world and even allowing them to interact with the featured elements of the exhibitions. “T-Rex Revealed – The Augmented + Virtual Reality Experience” is the first exhibition that integrates cutting-edge technology with the latest scientific research. Making use of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies, the exhibition creates an immersive, adventurous experience, taking visitors into the vivid world of the dinosaurs. Tyrannosaurus was the most ferocious carnivorous dinosaur and is certainly the most famous. It had serrated teeth as sharp as a steak knife; its crushing bite was over three times stronger than a crocodile’s, which has the most powerful bite among animals today; and it could run as fast as the fastest man alive. Tyrannosaurus was a matchless predator in the prehistoric world. Imagine how shocking it would be if a Tyrannosaurus was chasing its prey just in front of you! In this exhibition, various interactive exhibits employing the latest AR and VR technologies and video programmes take you back to the prehistoric world 66 million years ago. You can fly through the sky looking for dinosaur footprints or even have a close encounter with the ferocious Tyrannosaurus on land. Learn about its body structure, living habits and other interesting topics. And see how scientists deduced the super senses the dinosaur had from the study of its skulls. 可穿戴能量收集裝置，是一件可以穿上的，並能把環境的能量，轉換成電能的電子設備。隨着個人移動設備的廣泛使用，隨時為這些設備充電亦成為一大挑戰。便攜兼可穿戴的能量收集裝置就成為移動充電的未來選擇。

熱電裝置，基於塞貝克效應（或珀爾帖效應），可以直接把熱能轉換成電。人體皮膚表面溫度約為34oC，一般高於四周環境的溫度（例如20-25oC）。這溫差雖然顯得有點微不足道，在應用中卻確實能用來發電。為了開發更高效能和更具靈活性的熱電裝置，浸會大學的研究團隊力求深入研究可持續的材料和裝置。期望在不久的將來，便攜式能量收集裝置可以變得普及和大眾化。 Wearable energy harvesting devices are electronic devices that human can put on to convert ambient energy into electrical energy. Because of the popular use of personal mobile devices, charging the device battery on the move is challenging. Options for mobile charging can be in the form of portable and wearable devices in future. Thermoelectric device is able to directly convert heat energy into electricity, relying on the principle of the Seebeck effect (or the Peltier effect). Human skin temperature is about 34°C, which is normally higher than the ambient temperature (for example 20-25°C). This temperature difference might seem to be insignificant for a real-world exploitation, but in practice it can turn the body heat into electricity. In order to develop more efficient and more flexible thermoelectric devices, the research team at Hong Kong Baptist University strives to conduct intensive research on sustainable materials and devices. Hopefully in the near future, portable energy harvesting devices can become popular and affordable.

生物多樣性展廳 Biodiversity Gallery

生物多樣性是指地球上生物種類的繁多，所涵蓋的層面非常廣泛，由基因到生態系統、以至生態轉變及演化過程。生物多樣性支撐整體生態系統的功能，並提供大量天然物資和服務，讓地球上所有生物（包括人類）能夠生生不息，其重要性不言而喻。生物多樣性展廳設有四大主題的展區，分別是本地生物多樣性、世界生物多樣性、時光變遷和自然實驗室。

本地生物多樣性香港位處亞熱帶地區，山脈多而四季分明，是多種野生動物的棲息處。本展區設有香港林地和綠海龜產卵地的生境場景，為你展現香港繽紛美麗的自然環境。在本地生態系統中，各個物種各自有着不可思議的生活方式、迷人的外表以及發揮所長的能力。你可在昆蟲放大鏡仔細觀察各種昆蟲的身體結構，又或者化身為一條小魚，嘗試在茂密的紅樹的根部系統中找尋出路。

世界生物多樣性我們的地球的確是妙不可言，數以百萬計的物種遍佈世界各地。首先，讓我們在非洲草原展開旅程，這兒聚居了多元化的生物群。遊覽時，別忘記與長頸鹿、高角羚和平原斑馬打聲招呼。下一站我們便來到南美洲。你會進入一條森林小徑，在樹木和植物之間健步遠足，認識亞馬遜熱帶雨林中的珍禽異獸。離開森林，馬上展開海洋潛航的旅程，關於海洋生物的短片正為你播放。

8 時光變遷演化是長年累月在不同生境促成生物出現異同的生物過程。展區不但整合了資料豐富的展品，而且還設計了趣味與科學知識兼備的互動遊戲，讓參觀者親自動手參與。你可以在DNA狂舞派享受舞蹈的樂趣，亦可嘗試尋找動物基因組的長度。展區內長達12米的演化時間廊壁畫除展示生命之樹外，亦描述長久以來物種之間的演化關係。地球大事年記進一步展示自地球形成以來不同物種的出現、演化和滅絕的時序。

自然實驗室自然實驗室是一所獨特的資源中心，具備顯微鏡和其他設備，你可以使用不同放大倍數來觀察活生生的生物和生物標本，從而探索和瞭解大自然設計的模式、結構和各種設計之間的相互關係。實驗室當然少不了大自然元素，各式各樣的天然標本以精緻的方式排列展示。這些色彩繽紛的標本細緻傳神，令實驗室充滿朝氣，更可讓你欣賞藝術與科學研究之間千絲萬縷的關係。你更可以在星期三、六及日下午參加生物多樣性工作坊，透過小實驗和遊戲等，認識不同的大自然主題。

Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth at all its levels, from genes to ecosystems, and the ecological and evolutionary processes. Biodiversity is so important that it underpins ecosystem functions and provides a large number of natural goods and services to sustain all living beings on Earth, including humans. The Biodiversity Gallery is divided into four thematic zones, namely Local Biodiversity, Variety in the World, Changes through Time and Nature Lab. Local Biodiversity Situated in a subtropical region with mountainous reliefs and distinct seasons, Hong Kong is home to a wide variety of wildlife. The dioramas, Woodlands of Hong Kong and Nesting Site of Green Turtles, will give you an impression of the rich and beautiful environment which exists in Hong Kong. The astonishing way of life, fascinating appearance and vital importance of species in the local ecosystems will also be demonstrated. You can observe every detail of the Giant Insects and act as a little fish, finding your way through the dense Mangrove Roots system. Variety in the World Our planet is simply amazing and millions of different species can be found across our world. Let’s begin our journey in the African Savanna which is home to a diverse community of organisms. Most notably, remember to meet the giraffe, the impala and the plains zebra there. South America will come next. You will enter a Forest Trail and hike through a variety of trees and plants to find information about the flora and fauna in the Amazon tropical rainforest. Leaving the forest, you will enter into the ocean where you can take a Submarine Ride and watch a short video about the diverse life beneath the surface of the sea.

演化時間廊 10 Timeline of Evolution Changes through Time Evolution accounts for the striking patterns of similarities and differences between living things over time and across habitats as a result of biological processes. This exhibition area integrates both informative exhibits and hands-on interactive elements to enable you to acquire scientific knowledge in an interesting way. You will have fun dancing in the DNA Disco and get the chance to explore the length of the Animal Genome. In this exhibition area, a 12-metre-long graphic on the wall illustrates the Timeline of Evolution, showing the family tree of life and describing the evolutionary relationships among species through time. The Earth’s History as a Single Year further depicts the chronology of the emergence, evolution and extinction of species in a series of pictures stretching back to the formation of the Earth. Nature Lab Our Nature Lab is a unique resource centre equipped with microscopes and other facilities which give you access to living and non-living specimens at multiple scales. Through hands-on creative investigation and research, you are able to explore and understand the patterns, structures and interactions of design in nature. The Lab is definitely not lacking a natural element. A wide range of authentic natural specimens are showcased and arranged in exquisite patterns. These colourful specimens bring life to the Lab with their intricate details and brilliant hues, and allow you to appreciate the myriad connections between artistic and scientific study. You can also join the Biodiversity Workshop in every afternoon of Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday and understand various topics on nature through fun experiments and games.

一年一度的科學盛事「2017香港科學節」又來了！

自2014年開始，香港科學館舉辦第一屆「香港科學節」，至今已踏入第四年。透過這大型活動，我們聯合各個科學機構和組織提供有趣的科學活動，以提高公眾對科學與科技的關注和興趣。

科學研究源於人類對大自然的好奇，更連繫着我們生活的每一點滴，有助改善生活質素。一如以往，香港科學節會涵蓋各個科學領域，透過林林總總的活動讓大家了解各門科學；而今年我們亦誠意為大家舉辦以「醫學與健康」為題的特色活動，希望能讓大家認識到中西醫學的科學理念，理解醫學研究與疾病治療對維持人類身體健康所作出的貢獻。

我們非常感謝各個合作伙伴的鼎力支持。他們為大家精心設計了別具特色的科學活動，使今年科學節的內容更豐富、更充實、更切合公眾對追求科學知識的不同需要。今年的科學節共提供逾165 項科學活動，包括展覽、參觀及導賞、科學工作坊、家庭同樂日、科學劇場、趣味實驗班、專題講座和科學比賽等，相信大家必定能在科學節期間找到感興趣的活動。今年新設的「講座獎勵計劃」，鼓勵大家多參與科學講座，與專家講者交流，深入地了解各門科學的知識和最新發展。

13 香港科學節 HK SciFest

An exciting annual science event - HK SciFest 2017 is coming again! It has been the fourth year for the Hong Kong Science Museum hosting the HK SciFest since 2014. Through this fabulous large-scale event, we aim to collaborate with scientific institutes and organisations to provide interesting scientific activities to elevate the public awareness and interest in science and technology. Scientific researches not only stem from human curiosity about the nature, but also contribute to help solving problems as well as improving our daily life. On top of the broad science topics covered in HK SciFest as it has been, we have also organised a series of “Medicine and Health” thematic programmes this year which help to understand the scientific concepts behind western and Chinese medicines, and recognise the contribution of medical research and disease treatments to our health. We are grateful to have great support and enthusiastic participation from our partners. They have developed unique science programmes specially to enrich the content of HK SciFest and further meet the needs of the public in pursuing scientific knowledge. HK SciFest 2017 offers more than 165 scientific activities, including exhibitions, visits and guided tours, science workshops, family days, science drama shows, fun experiment classes, science lectures and science competitions. Surely, you would be able to find some programmes that you are interested in. To encourage deepening the learning, the Lecture Award Scheme is launched to promote participation in lectures where the public can meet the scientists and understand the latest development. 科學是充滿樂趣的！今年香港科學館特別以「玩轉科學嘉年華」作為開幕活動，邀請多個「2017 香港科學節」的合作伙伴，提供多個互動攤位遊戲，讓一家大小在輕鬆的氣氛下，一起玩科學、學習科學和享受科學。攤位遊戲涵蓋不同領域包括醫學與健康、STEM教育、光污染、生物多樣性和地球科學等。場內還有嶄新的密室逃脫遊戲，讓參加者以另類的方式來認識醫學。表演區更有精采的科學示範，以及由美國科學傳意大師艾迪．高德斯坦為大家表演科學劇。萬勿錯過，大家快來一起「玩」科學！ Science is full of fun! This year, Hong Kong Science Museum has invited a number of HK SciFest 2017 partners to run the Fun Science Carnival as the opening event of the HK SciFest. Visitors can find fun, learn and enjoy science in a joyful atmosphere. In the carnival, there are interactive science game booths on the topics of medicine and health, STEM education, light pollution, biodiversity and earth science. Moreover, we have created a special room escape game to provide novel experiences for visitors to learn about medicine. In the performance area, there are fantastic science demonstrations and science dramas presented by Eddie Goldstein, the master in science communication from the USA. 當你們與孩子、學生或科學的門外漢講解複雜的科學原理時，會否有不知從何入手的情況？如有，請快來參加由香港科學館舉辦的「科學傳意週」了。來自美國的資深科學傳意專家艾迪．高德斯坦有豐富的科學傳意工作經驗，曾於世界各地表演科學劇及主持工作坊。他將在「科學傳意週」中與大家分享科學傳意的心得。 Have you had difficulty in explaining complicated scientific concepts to children, students or laymen? 「醫學與健康」節目 “Medicine and Health” Programmes 今年的香港科學節以「醫學與健康」為重點推廣領域，科學館將舉辦一系列精心設計的工作坊，讓參加者能親身參與，體驗科學與科技對醫學發展的影響。用腦電念力控制小球移動 Experience Using Brainwave to Control the Ball Movement 科學家估計人類的大腦約有100億個神經元，近年的生物醫學工程技術能識別並讀取大腦信息，從而控制身體以外的事物。這工作坊讓參加者了解人類的大腦和意念控制的原理，並親身體會以腦電波控制和移動小球的樂趣。

科學互動講座精裝科學劇 Science Interactive Lecture Science Drama Show

要追溯全球環保運動及教育的源頭，相信可從美國海洋生物學家雷切爾卡森於1962年出版的《寂靜的春天》一書開始。18年後，科學家卡爾薩根堅持要從外太空拍攝一幅以地球為主的照片。自此，這照片上那一點暗淡的藍光，成為了地球脆弱與微小的象徵。當英國太空人提姆皮克於2015 年執行升空任務時，或許仍帶着對這張劃時代照片的記憶，希望自己能親身目睹這難忘一刻。時光飛逝，再看今時今日的地球，不論是海洋、森林、空氣以至生物多樣性，無一不受威脅，諷刺的是，這一切的罪魁禍首，是仰賴大地而生的人類。今年，「活的科學」會從欣賞、理解和行動三方面來帶出保護地球的重要性，期望讓這「暗淡藍點」永遠美麗和充滿生機。

今年的科學互動講座題材十分廣泛，包括如何由零開始重建文明、氣候變化、基因組編輯新技術及恐龍生理學等；精裝科學劇則藉生動和別出心裁的活動，引領觀眾認識不同形式的能量，以及如何讓常人擁有超級英雄的力量。此外，還有專為教師而設、探討如何啟發學生投入STEM學習的教學工作坊，以及讓家長陪同小朋友一起做實驗的親子工作坊。

The birth of the global environmental movement, and environmental education, started with the publication of "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson in 1962. Eighteen years later, the world was given a unique glimpse of the Earth from space through a photo that was almost never taken. A photo that scientist Carl Sagan insisted be taken, one that would endure to be a symbol of the Earth’s fragility and vulnerability. This photo, or the anticipation of seeing it first-hand, may have been on the mind of UK astronaut Tim Peake as he ascended into space in 2015. Fast forward to present day: the Earth is still under threat, from its water to its forests, and from its air to its biodiversity. Ironically, it is us humans, living and depending on the earth, who are the reasons why it is under threat. This year, Science Alive will highlight the importance of appreciating, understanding and acting to preserve the beauty and complexity of the Earth, this "pale blue dot." Science Interactive Lectures of this year will cover a wide range of topics including the rebuilding civilisation from scratch, climate change, new genome editing technique and dinosaur physiology. Meanwhile, the Science Drama Shows will be performed in a vivid and stunning way to foster the interest of audience in understanding different types of energy, and turning the powers of superheroes into reality. Moreover, workshops specially designed for teachers to inspire students to study STEM subjects, and family workshops that let parents do experiments with their children will be held again. 2017趣味科學比賽－適可而止 Fun Science Competition 2017 – Stay Right There

目標：設計及製作一器件，沿一斜杆前進，並停留在指定的目標區內。分組：比賽分低班組（中一至中三）和高班組（中四至中六）。低班組分同軌級及平台級，器件須從上而下滑行至指定目標區內。高班組分電動級及非電動級，以不同動力推動器件從下而上滑行至目標區。評分標準以器件能成功抵達目標區，及計算器件的重量以較輕者為優勝。

在「2016科普快遞科學演示比賽」中，同學們施展渾身解數，利用不同的道具或小實驗來解釋與物理學範疇相關的科學概念，讓觀眾透過一個生動而有趣的方式去學習科學知識。由於比賽反應熱烈並獲好評，我們將於2017年繼續舉辦「科普快遞科學演示比賽」，並以「天與地」作為今次比賽的主題。同學們將在十分鐘內以地球科學或天體物理學這兩個範疇內的課題作示範表演，解釋相關的科學現象；而勝出的隊伍將有機會到美國參觀各著名的科研機構和觀測日全食，並到大峽谷國家公園作實地考察。決賽將於四月二十二日下午一時在科學館演講廳舉行，歡迎公眾人士到場參觀，機會難逢，萬勿錯過。 In SciPOP Science Presentation Contest 2016, students presented with all their might, using different props or hands-on experiments, to put across the scientific concepts of physics to the audience in a lively and interesting way. Since the contest was well received by students and concluded with positive outcome, we are going to organise the contest again in 2017 with the theme, "Sky and Earth". Each team will perform a 10-minute science presentation on a selected topic under the subjects of Earth sciences or astrophysics. The winning teams will be entitled to join a study tour to visit renowned research institutes, observe the total solar eclipse, and take a field trip at Grand Canyon National Park. The Final will be held on 22 April at 1pm and the public are welcome to join this edutaining competition. So, don’t miss the chance.

透過五官﹙眼、耳、口、鼻、皮膚﹚，我們可以看到美麗的風景，聽到美妙的歌聲，品嚐美味的食物，聞到芬芳的花香和感受周圍環境的冷熱。但究竟視覺、聽覺、味覺、嗅覺和觸覺是怎樣產生的呢？當感官出現障礙時，會如何影響我們？我們又應該如何保持五官敏銳呢？本活動透過模型、圖片及連串有趣的實驗，介紹感覺的產生、視覺及觸覺的錯誤判斷，以及味覺和嗅覺的關係。

后海灣濕地保育研討會

香港面積雖小，但擁有富饒的生物多樣性，當中以濕地尤甚。由世界自然基金會負責管理的米埔自然保護區是本地及華南地區的標誌性濕地，除了為每年超過400種、60,000隻雀鳥提供食物及棲息地外，保護區連同整片拉姆薩爾濕地亦為多類本地生物如水生動植物、昆蟲、兩棲爬蟲、魚類及哺乳類等提供重要的居所。

基金會由2015年3月起舉辦了「香港濕地生物多樣性普查」。這項為期兩年的活動公開招募了超過450位「公民科學家」及本地多位物種專家參與研究，為米埔及內后海灣一帶進行超過15項的實地生態調查，全面更新米埔自然保護區的物種名錄。

For a relatively small city Hong Kong has an incredibly rich biodiversity, especially in our wetlands. One example is the one-of-a-kind Mai Po Nature Reserve. Under the management of WWF-Hong Kong, the Reserve has become an iconic wetland for Hong Kong and South China – providing food and habitat for 60,000 individual birds from over 400 species every year. Alongside the Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay Ramsar site, the Reserve is home to various types of local wildlife including aquatic fauna, insects, amphibians, reptiles, fish and mammals. Starting from March 2015, WWF-Hong Kong has commenced a two-year project called “Discovering Biodiversity in Hong Kong Wetlands”. This project conducted over 15 types of ecological studies with the help of 450 openly recruited citizen scientists, in which the results determined the current biodiversity status of the Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay wetlands. The Symposium on Deep Bay Wetlands Conservation will act as the wrap-up ceremony for “Discovering Biodiversity in Hong Kong Wetlands”. 「2016年度邵逸夫獎得獎者」展覽及「2016邵逸夫獎得獎者— 挑戰、尋樂在科研」普及科學論壇 “The Shaw Laureates 2016” Exhibition and “Meet the Shaw Laureates 2016 - The challenges and the joy of doing science” Popular Science Forum 2016年度邵逸夫獎頒獎禮，於9月27日舉行並頒予六位科學家，天文學獎得獎者為羅奈爾特．德雷弗、基普．索恩及雷納．韋斯教授；生命科學與醫學獎得獎者為艾德里安．伯德和胡達．佐格比教授；數學科學獎得獎者為奈傑爾．希欽教授。

為了讓大家對這幾位科學家及他們的研究有更深入的了解，從而鼓勵年青人參與科研工作，香港科學館、香港太空館、邵逸夫獎基金會、教育局及香港教育城聯合舉辦了「2016年度邵逸夫獎得獎者」展覽，和在9月29日於香港科學館舉行「2016邵逸夫獎得獎者─挑戰、尋樂在科研」普及科學論壇。本年度邵逸夫獎得獎者在科學館分享其科研路上的歷程，其研究出發點，並鼓勵現場學生投身科研事業，讓現場觀眾獲益良多。
