From the desk of Father James s I am writing this bulletin letter, it is the first day of May and the Liturgical Memorial of St. Joseph the Worker.

While the month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary, we begin this month with Joseph, her A husband. I pray for all who work, those without work and the under-employed, as well as those that are physically

unable to work, that through the intercession of St. Joseph the Worker, all human beings will be provided the opportunity to work to create a living for themselves and for their families.

As I just mentioned May is a month that is dedicated to Mary. This past Wednesday we had our annual May Crowning with our school children at the Wednesday school Mass. It is always so amazing to see the joy and tenderness that our kids exhibit as they bring flowers to honor our Blessed Mother Mary.

I would also like to draw your attention to the display in the outer narthex of the Church where we can see the many different images of our Blessed Mother. We have Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Our Lady of Fatima, as well as many different holy cards and other pictures that depict the different ways that our Mother Mary has appeared to the faithful. It is indeed a reminder to us that our Dear Lady is the mother of ALL of us, no matter where we have come from. She is always there for us, pleading to her Son for our needs.

I would ask that you please keep our young people here in the parish in prayer over the next several weeks. This Sunday (May 6th) we have five older kids that will be receiving 1st Communion at the 10:30 am Mass. On Saturday afternoon May 19 we will have 38 additional kiddos receive 1st Communion at Mass at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to attend this Mass to encourage and support our children as they make this next step into full initiation in the Catholic Church. Finally, on Sunday evening, May 20 at the 5:00 pm Mass -Emeritus John Vlazny will be here to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with our St. Francis teens and we will also have a couple of teens join us from St. Cyril’s with Fr. Allbright their pastor. Again, all are invited and welcome to join in these festivities.

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to the insert in the bulletin this week that speaks about our change in posture at Mass after the Lamb of God. I spoke to you about a few changes on the weekend of April 22. Starting Mother’s Day weekend we will begin kneeling after the Lamb of God. The insert explains in further detail about this change and why Archbishop Sample is asking that we make this change. I will give prompts in the weeks ahead to remind us when we need to knee. We are asked to remain kneeling after the Lamb of God, until it is our time to come up for Communion. Then we are to kneel when we return to our seats and stay kneeling until the Priest sits down in the Presider’s Chair. If you have any questions, please feel free to come and ask me or Deacon Bill. BOOK-OF-THE-MONTH

Prepare to celebrate our Blessed Mother during the month of May. This month’s Book-of-the-Month is Hail, Holy Queen: The Mother of God in the Word of God By Scott Hahn ISBN: 9780385501699 In Hail Holy Queen: The Mother of God in the Word of God, Dr. Hahn brings to light the small but significant scriptural details revealing that just as Jesus is the "New Adam," so Mary is the "New Eve." He unveils the Marian mystery at the heart of the Book of Revelation and reveals how it is foretold in the very first pages of the Book of Genesis. He also finds evidence for Mary's Queenship in the story of the Davidic monarchy, which speaks of a privileged place for the Queen Mother and much, much more. 4 In a world where the unborn, the unfed, and the unloved are ignored, we show our love for one another by working for jus- tice. By working for justice we intend to achieve peace, a uni- versal peace where all life is respected and all life is shown proper dignity by having opportunities to flourish. When we love one another as Jesus commanded then peace is the result of our efforts. When we work for peace we are manifesting our love for one another.

Peace comes from QUEEN OF THE PEACE heaven. We shall obtain peace by praying particularly for the intercession and protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is the Queen of peace. Mense Maio

Almost forty years later Pope John Paul II asked us to pray for peace by using a prayer that he wrote, “To Mary, the Light of Hope.” As we work for justice and demonstrate our Christian love for all as Jesus commanded, let us commemorate the month of May, Mary’s month, and pray to the Queen of Peace for her help. But God thinks relentlessly in terms of love, even when that love entails suffering. So, we ask ourselves, what is

our final frame of reference? Is it, 'How do I avoid pain?' or is it, 'How do I love?' So, if I wake up every morning and my basic question is 'How am I going to avoid pain?' then I am going to live my life in a cer- tain way - ultimately, a selfish way. But if when I wake up in the morning I say, 'How do I love today?' then I will live the life of a saint." Catholic Corner
