6 AS INTRODUCED 7 A Resolution congratulating Malcolm Jenkins upon his 8 selection as recipient of the 2008 Jim Thorpe Award; wishing him well in future endeavors; and directing 9 distribution.

12 WHEREAS, Malcolm Jenkins, the son of W. Lee and Gwendolyn
13 Jenkins, was born December 20, 1987, in Piscataway Township, New
14 Jersey. He attended Piscataway Township High School where he played
15 football and participated in track. On the football field Malcolm
16 Jenkins started as both wide receiver and defensive back on three
17 state championship teams. He was selected for the all-state team
18 his senior year. On the track he won the state title in the 400-
19 meter dash as well as placing third in the 200-meter dash during his
20 junior year. Malcolm Jenkins placed third in the hurdles his senior
21 year at the state meet; and
22 WHEREAS, Malcolm Jenkins as a freshman at Ohio State University
23 played in ten games and earned his first letter as a true freshman.

1 Against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, he made nine tackles giving
2 him a total of 37 tackles for the season; and
3 WHEREAS, Malcolm Jenkins as a sophomore at Ohio State University
4 started all 13 games and was a first-team All-Big Ten selectee. He
5 made 55 tackles, 40 of them solo, and intercepted four passes; and
6 WHEREAS, Malcolm Jenkins as a junior at Ohio State University
7 was a First Team Pro Football Weekly All-American, First Team All-
8 Big Ten, Second Team Walter Camp All-American, and a Thorpe Award
9 semi-finalist. He made 47 tackles during the season. He was
10 selected as defensive player of the week and won the Arnie Chonko
11 Award for Outstanding Defensive Back; and
12 WHEREAS, Malcolm Jenkins as a senior and Captain of the Buckeyes
13 football team at Ohio State University won the 2008 Jim Thorpe Award
14 presented to the nation’s best college defensive back. He also was
15 selected to the American Football Coaches’ Association (AFCA) All-
16 American Team, the Walter Camp All-American First Team, and the All-
17 Big Ten Conference First Team.
18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 1ST SESSION
19 OF THE 52ND OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
20 THAT the Oklahoma State Senate congratulates Ohio State
21 University Buckeye Malcolm Jenkins upon his selection as recipient
22 of the 2008 Jim Thorpe Award, recognizing him as the nation’s best
23 college defensive back.

1 THAT the Oklahoma State Senate wishes Malcolm Jenkins well in
2 all future athletic endeavors.
3 THAT a copy of this resolution be distributed to 2008 Jim Thorpe
