PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC SERVICE MEDIA KUSP, Santa Cruz, General Manager 2003-2015 KUSP is an independent public radio station serving California’s Central Coast, including the Monterey Bay area, the Salinas Valley, southern Santa Clara County, and the Big Sur coast.

Under my leadership as the station’s chief executive, KUSP: • Built a major giving program led by the General Manager and directly involving key members of the governing board; revenue from $1,000+ donors tripled and netted $10,000-$100,000 gifts for operating support for the first time in station history. • Innovated many on-line services at kusp.org, including digital content partnerships with key arts organizations in the region such as the Monterey Jazz Festival. • Re-established regular local news, emphasizing environment, education, and arts/culture coverage; KUSP News won three regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards in 2014 and 2015.

KHSU, Humboldt State University, Arcata, California Station Manager 2000-2003 Assistant to the General Manager 1997-1999 Chief Engineer 1994-1997 KHSU brings public radio to far northwestern California and the southern Oregon coast. Since the early 2000’s KHSU has been the most-listened-to radio station (commercial or non-commercial) in the region, thanks to the leadership team we built in my time there – members of which continue to serve at KHSU today. Significant highlights: • I planned and executed a multi-year capital project involving federal, state, and local support to rebuild KHSU’s transmitting system and re-equip its broadcast studios, beginning the station’s digital transition. • Our team forged partnerships with HSU academic programs beyond the traditional territory of journalism and communications, enhancing learning for upper division and graduate students and enriching KHSU content in science and the arts. • I led the station through a period of upheaval triggered by discovery of financial wrongdoing by university administrators to whom the station reported.

KZFR, Chico, California Programming and Technical Adviser 1985-1994 I was recruited by the founding directors of a community nonprofit organization during their feasibility study for the second public radio station to serve California’s northern Sacramento Valley. I developed station’s initial technical and budget plans, prepared and filed the initial FCC application to construct the station (among the last new full-power non-commercial FM stations authorized in California), and supported community organizing and fund-raising programs prior to station’s sign-on in 1990. Founding member of station’s programming advisory council 1990-1994.
