Why New Quarterback Joe Flacco Gets the Broncos Back in the NFL Playoff Conversation by Mark Kiszla Denver Post June 5, 2019
Kiszla: Why new quarterback Joe Flacco gets the Broncos back in the NFL playoff conversation By Mark Kiszla Denver Post June 5, 2019 Flacco has never thrown for more than 27 touchdowns in any of his 11 previous seasons in the NFL and has topped 4,000 passing yards only once in his career. New Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco stinks … if you believe all the power rankings of quarterbacks on the internet. Those ratings suggest he is Trent Dilfer 2.0, at best. But like most of what you read on Twitter, the instant analysis of Flacco is for the birds. When Flacco drops back to pass, he earns respect without uttering a word, by displaying a gift that’s rare, even at the NFL level. “He can throw the ball 80 yards, easy,” Broncos linebacker Von Miller said Tuesday, marveling at a mighty heave Flacco unleashed during practice. “He threw it 80 yards across the field. He’s looking like a Super Bowl MVP to me.” Game knows game. And unlike a year ago, when Broncos teammates mightily tried to prop up Case Keenum as a quarterback to be trusted, Flacco’s arm talent has done the talking during spring workouts at Dove Valley Headquarters. “That man has a cannon, I can tell you that,” Denver defensive lineman Shelby Harris said last week. “That man can really throw the ball.” Game knows game. For example: When I asked Flacco how he can tell Miller is a special player, he replied: “I’ve been around a lot of good guys on defense, for most of my career, as you guys know. -

P R O C L a M a T I O N Red Chiefs Days
P r o c l a m a t i o n Whereas, our Kansas City Chiefs 2019 regular season record was 12-4; and Whereas, our Kansas City Chiefs were down 24-0 against the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game and eventually stormed back to win 51-31 in a thrilling “game for the ages” to host the AFC Championship game; and Whereas, our Kansas City Chiefs were down 10-0 against the Tennessee Titans before Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes unleashed his comeback magic and the defense clamped down Derek Henry and the Titan running game and helped the team to a 21- 17 halftime lead and eventually a 35-24 AFC Championship victory such that nobody remembers the Titans; and Whereas, our Kansas City Chiefs have the greatest NFL coaching staff led by Andy Reid, and count among their ranks Patrick Mahomes, Frank Clark, Mecole Hardman, Tyreek Hill, Chris Jones and Travis Kelce, each of whom had been selected for the Pro Bowl; and Whereas, all Chiefs players and coaches have repeatedly shown their determination, talent and team spirit along with rowdy, raucous, tailgating Chiefs fans; and Whereas, our Kansas City Chiefs last appeared in the Super Bowl 50 years ago and Hank Stram and Len Dawson led that team to victory against the Minnesota Vikings; and Whereas, our beloved Kansas City Chiefs will compete against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 representing the pride and notoriety for all those who live and work in and around Kansas City; Now, therefore, I, Carl Gerlach, Mayor of the City of Overland Park, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Friday, January 31, 2020, through Sunday, Feb. -
History of Belle Vernon Area High School Football (1965-2015)
History of Belle Vernon Area High School Football (1965-2015) Author’s notes: This history is not intended to be a definitive study of Belle Vernon Area High School football but a summary of the past 50 years of the spirited sport in the Belle Vernon community. As a lifelong resident of the Mon Valley and one who has lived Belle Vernon Area athletics, I had the advantage of knowing the football coaches and players through the years. It is hoped that this work inspires a history of other Mon Valley high schools and their storied football past rich in memorable coaches, players and games. Belle Vernon Area High School football has an interesting history in connecting generations with an array of colorful coaches who developed fine talent into champions competing in conference play. BVA has named three alumni as its head mentor, including Gary Dongilli who holds a winning record of 71-11 spanning seven seasons, Lou Rood, and Aaron Krepps. Moreover, several Belle Vernon Area alumni have distinguished themselves as professional athletes in Bill Contz, Scott Zolak, and Joe Rudolph. National recognition followed Penn State’s Craig Fayak and Bill Contz, Notre Dame’s Jason Murray, Pitt’s Marlon McIntyre and Erik Gill, Wisconsin’s Joe Rudolph, and Michigan’s Scott McClintock. Big 33 Classic Football selections from BVA, symbolizing the best athletes in Pennsylvania since 1956, are an elite core: Jim Bair ‘66, Gene Belczyk ‘69, Bill Contz ‘79, Marlon McIntrye ‘81, Craig Fayak ‘90, Scott McClintock ’01, 1 Jonathan Fowler ’03, Dorian Johnson ’13 and Devin Hannan ‘15. -

Green at Cardinals practice today looked like the 2015 version,” Riddick tweeted. “He was on fire. Arizona has the potential to have top-five wide receiver group with DHop, AJ, Rondale Moore, and Christian Kirk.” The Cardinals have lots of depth now at QB: Kyler Murray saw his first snaps this preseason, but the wide receiver position with the additions for Green it was evident Kliff Kingsbury sees little value in giving and Moore this offseason. his superstar quarterback an extended preseason look. He played nine snaps against the Chiefs before giving TE: The tight end position remains one of the big way to Colt McCoy and Chris Streveler. Those nine question marks. Maxx Williams sits at the top of the snaps were discouraging, as Murray took two sacks and depth chart, but it is muddied with Darrell Daniels, only completed one pass. -
