  • Ward Confident He=Ll Have Another Successful Royal
TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2019 LETTER FROM ASCOT: FUGETABOUTIT! WARD CONFIDENT by Dave Johnson HE=LL HAVE ANOTHER The day before the Royal Meeting at Ascot begins, it is all about the humans who will be working over the prestigious five- SUCCESSFUL ROYAL ASCOT day spectacle. Some in top hat and tails, some in jockey silks. Many have pointed their skills, their horses, their hats and their bankrolls to this week in June. As for the jockey ranks, my humble feeling is that William Buick is the best rider in the world today. He has been a major winner at this meeting, as well as at Arlington, Belmont Park and Breeders' Cup events. He was injured one month ago at Ascot, when Sir Busker (Ire) (Sir Prancealot {Ire}) unseated him in the parade to the post. He is suffering post head-injury syndrome. Tough with no date to return, since he had G1 Epsom Derby winner Masar (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) and G1 Melbourne Cup champ Cross Counter (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}) as his intended mounts. This subtraction of Buick is an addition for James Doyle, but even with those added Buick mounts, I don't think he can win more Royal Ascot races than Ryan Moore, since Moore is the go-to rider for Aidan O'Brien. And neither do the bookies. Bound For Nowhere, shown here winning the 2018 GII Shakertown S., Moore and O'Brien are so favored that the price is 11-10 that is one of a strong Royal Ascot team for trainer Wesley Ward | Coady they both will win jockey and trainer titles though this Saturday By Bill Finley evening.

Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget and racing in the colours of Gerard Augustin-Normand, Almanzor won last year=s G1 Prix du Jockey Club at 20-1 but subsequently proved that performance was no fluke, following up with wins in the G2 Prix Guillaume d=Ornano, G1 Irish Champion S. and G1 Champion S. Fifty percent of Almanzor was sold to his breeder, Haras d=Etreham, in partnership with SF Bloodstock just prior to the Champion S. Almanzor was kept in training this year at four but was affected by an EHV-1 outbreak in Rouget=s stable in April. He made his racecourse return in August but beat just one home in the G3 Prix Gontaut-Biron. AAlmanzor has already been really well received,@ said Etreham=s Nicolas de Chambure. AWe have had a lot people on the farm and they have been impressed by him. We have sold all the shares available and we have an exciting syndicate with top international breeders so the horse will get great support. With his race record, physique and pedigree, we feel he is a great opportunity for breeders at i35,000.@ Cont. p2 Champion sprinter Quiet Reflection | racingfotos.com The catalogue for the Tattersalls December Mare Sale from Dec. 4 to 7 has been published, with four maiden Group 1- winning fillies among the prize offerings.
