It was fantastic to see so many come along and enjoy the P-8 concert last Friday evening. The weather held off for us and all the students had a lot of fun and performed wonderfully. I would like to thank Mrs White who organised the concert and also anyone else who helped out in any way. Over the past few weeks we have been busy recruiting staff for 2015 and I am now able to make some announcements. Firstly, Miss Megan Steel has been appointed to the senior Mathematics position replacing Mr Carter who is leaving us at the end of the year. Megan is passionate about Maths and I wish her well in her new role in the college. Shaun will be missed at the college, and I thank him for the amazing contribution he has made to the school. We have also changed the class structure at the Junior School which will include Prep, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3/4, Year 5 and Year 6. We have appointed two new Junior School CALENDAR staff, Miss Jenna Krinas and Miss Alex Bates, who will be moving from . We also have two other staff-members leaving us at the end of the year. By Leeroy Grant Kaniva College held our biannual Prep to Year 8 concert on Friday night with a theme of stage show musical songs. It was held in front of the college office on a carpeted stage, with the audience sitting on chairs and picnic rugs on the grassed area of the Junior Side. It made a natural amphitheatre and was a lovely atmosphere. All of the classes performed extremely well Each junior class performed two songs or dances and the year 7s and year 8 girls each did one song. The night was concluded with the Preps and Year 6s singing ‘So Long, Farewell’. A big thanks to all of those who put in their time and efforts for the making and running of such a great event. It is wonderful to give the students at our school the opportunity to demonstrate their dance and singing skills and to share that with others in the community. Our Year 11s are back after their week of Work Experience. On following up with their employers last week, all the students were doing really well and were great representatives of Kaniva College and of our community – you should all be proud of yourselves.

This year we once again had lots of different types of work experience opportunities. Some students had some brilliant experiences and they have already told me that this will certainly help with making career choices. One of our students has already been offered a summer job and another has a traineeship opportunity down the track.

We had students: Making sausages that will become bait for feral animals Helping out with kinder kids Weighing babies and helping with immunisations Observering animal surgery Working on powerful gaming computer hardware Draft up sheep and go to stock markets Go to ministerial meetings and announcements Observe all areas in a beauty and hair salon Tagging and categorising books, books and more books Learning all about community development in our local shire Learning so much about Optus that they actually signed up a customer! Helping disabled adults and children Learning how to tile and grout Making excellent pizzas in a really busy café Doing action sports photography at Lake Bonny Doon Thank you very much to the busi- nesses and organisa- tions that support us. We really appreciate the fact that you take time to help our students make some important future career decisions. Over the course of the semester the Year 7 Ag class has run a small animal breeding project. The chicken group were successful in incubating and hatching their own chickens and this week were successful in hatching 3 chickens through one of their hens going broody and sitting on her eggs. The combination was a white Sussex rooster and brown Frizzle hen who hatched what looks to be 3 dark feathered chicks. Community members visiting the farm out of school hours are encouraged to look only when they visit the farm. The class is unsure yet whether they would like to sell these chicks, rehome them within the class or use them next year for a basis of a project. 2016 Booklists Booklists were handed out last week.
