In 1898 it was altered and enlarged by Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, the Chancellor of the Exchequer as his country residence. In 1985 it was converted into six separate houses and the separation was undertaken vertically so as to create freehold properties, each with a garden; the remaining grounds, drive, parking area and swimming pool are owned communally. • 2 Coln Manor is the central and oldest part of the manor, and is approached through an impressive two-storey gabled porch, with ball finials and a moulded arched doorway beneath an armorial shield. In the porch and above the entrance door into the house, there is a remarkable stone with four carved heads, which is thought to be Saxon. • The hall, with its flagstone floor and fitted bookcases, provides a lovely entrance to the property and leads to an elegant well-proportioned sitting room, with a high ceiling, deep cornice, an open fireplace and a large stone-mullioned transom window, with a seat. • The kitchen is fitted with a custom-made range of floor and wall cupboards, with granite work surfaces and incorporates an Aga Range with electric ovens with gas hobs over, space and plumbing for dishwasher and washing machine. • The kitchen opens into the dining room, from which a part-glazed door gives access to the garden. • Adjoining the dining room is a study area, with a charming shelved alcove and fitted desktop. • On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, both with en-suites and the main bedroom is a particularly lovely, good-sized room, with painted panelled walls and a wide stone mullioned window with a seat. • On the second floor there are two further bedrooms, and a bathroom and the rooms to the rear of the house have a lovely aspect over the garden to the church. Gardens and grounds • The private gardens to 2 Coln Manor lie to the rear of the property and face south, with a lovely view of the church. There is a paved terrace immediately to the rear, an ideal place for outside dining and from which a door gives access directly into the kitchen/dining room. • Beyond the terrace, there are gravelled walkways, with deep well-stocked flower borders and a central raised rose bed. 2 Coln Manor, Coln St Aldwyns, Cirencester, GL7 5AD • The garden is L-shaped and at the far end there is a further paved
