ICC THEORY & VOCABULARY TEST PREPARATION

DEAR PARENT AND SINGER,

PREPARING FOR THE ICC THEORY TEST: Many of our singers are using several methods to prepare for the spring theory test. Several singers are using both the ICC curriculum materials provided by your director in class, personally chosen on-line music programs and strong participation in their school music programs to reinforce their musicianship skills.

After a great deal of research I would like to share with you some ideas of music aps and software that are readily available and will be helpful in preparing your singer for their next ICC theory test. These will be presented to you via your weekly updates and on your choir web page.

Use of these recommended technology based programs is purely voluntary. If you do not have access to a computer or IPad/Notebook, you should continue working with the hard copy worksheets and sight-reading materials from the ICC Curriculum Books and with your school music teacher or private music instructor.

The written ICC test is administered during class time with your director. Remember to contact your ICC director if your singer has a learning difference and needs to take the theory test in a non-written form or in a silent environment.

THE TENUTO CHALLENGE Prepared by Ruth E. Dwyer, 2017 ICC Director of Education

1. Download the TENTUTO music app 2. Determine with your director what your ‘NEXT LEVEL” of written test will be. ICC has 4 levels of theory testing. These are “Mastery Tests”. That is; you must pass each level by mastering 97% of the information before being allowed to take the next level test. 3. Follow the directions for the recommended settings that are listed for your test level (see next page). 4. PRACTICE DAILY for 10 minutes. GOAL: 98% correct answers for 3 days in a row. 100% would be awesome! 5. MUSIC IS A LANGUAGE: It takes years to master this language. Increase your knowledge little by little and you too will be a Master Musician! Remember: You spoke your mother tongue for 2-3 years before you started writing your name and reading the alphabet.
