Our Founder Father “Dr. K. M. Munshi”
Born on December 30, 1887, Dr. Kanhaiyalal Maneklal Munshi was “versatile personality”, “a philosopher in action”, “a man of great ideas and great courage” and “multi-faceted genius”. The versatility of Munshiji is seen in his role as lawyer, creative writer, constitution maker, freedom fighter, administrator, organization builder and a champion of Indian culture. Dr. Munshi looked upon Bhavan as an ‘Adventure in Faith’, faith in India’s past, present & future. It is also a faith in the Indians who have a rich unbroken cultural heritage.Munshiji built the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan with the devotion of one engrossed in raising a temple. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is a Somnath of Learning. Of this Somnath, Kulapati Munshi was ‘Sthapathi’ (sculptor architect) The Bhavan is ceaselessly striving to carry forward India’s ageless message of faith, self discipline and dedication; Shraddha, Samyamaand Samarpana. Its ideal is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, The world is one family. Its motto is “Aa no bhadraahkratvoyantuvishwataha”. Let noble thoughts come to us from every side.

Bhavan’s Institute of Management Science (BIMS) was started in the year 2000 under the aegis of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, one of the largest educational Foundations in the World. Bhavan’s family is over 320 Institutes. Since its inception, BIMS has developed into a Centre of excellence in management education under MAKAUT (previously WBUT). MBA students of our last 13 batches have curved their riche in the cooperate world and performing commendably. The Institute conducts 2 years Full-Time MBA & 3 years Full-Time BBA Programmes under Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (previously WBUT) & MBA programme is approved by AICTE. The foundation stone of the Institute was laid by his Excellency Viren J Shah in 2000, then Governor of West Bengal. The Institute has received constant patronage and recognition from eminent academicians and Corporate houses in different fields. Apart from theoretical and case study oriented classroom interactions, students have the best exposure in the corporate field through attending seminars, live project works, panel discussions, industry visits and interactions with corporate mentors. The arena for exposing the students with real life issues are conducted through national & international seminars, case writing workshop, FDPs, MDPs, Panel Discussions, B-School meets. Eminent panelists from industry and academicians attend these seminars and share their views on contemporary issues of business interest and current trend in management by visiting campus and through SKYPE from abroad as well. Students get a first hand corporate exposure and an opportunity to interact with corporate stalwarts. Industry visits are arranged frequently for the students so as to gather first-hand knowledge of paractical exposure in witness the management of production, distribution and sales processes. Teaching Pedagogy at Bhavan is a mix of Classroom Learning. Learning Aids, Group Learning, Case Study and Non-classroom Learning. Classroom Learning is meant primarily for theoretical and conceptual inputs. Faculty from diverse areas of specializations and corporate heads are frequently invited to interact with the students. Books and periodicals from National and International sources complement classroom lectures. Emphasis is laid on use of audiovisual aids and software packages. A prominent constituent of the teaching pedagogy is Group Learning, which is based on the fact that peer group learning is very effective. It prepares prospective managers to be proactive in seeking and acquiring knowledge, rather than having it "imparted" in the classroom. Free exchange of ideas among members of each group through discussion and presentation not only leverages on the and effort, but also enchances communication skill besides inculcating the virtue of self-study. Case Studies aregenerally used in classroom interactions to expose the students to real life issues of business problems. The decision making under 'real life' conditions imparts that managerial skills in the students thus keeping them to develop beyond not confined to any theory only.
