HJRZ UPDATE. I. Mary s. Taylor

A calitomia Flora b:y Philip Munz waa _published in 1959, and his supplement. in 1968. In the suceeding thirlee:n years a massive amount or taxortOnd.c work has been written concerning t.he California t1ora. Jo one publication, or nen an on-.,.oin~ journal series (as Munz's "Calif'omia MisC'elJanyt' series in Aliso), has attempted to keep track of all the changes and controversies in the literature. It is left. to the individual botanist to read all the jouma1s, floras, and utilize the abstract/ indexin,:,: senices - a monumental chore .. I institute this supplemental series primarily because the need for it is so apparent. Since I extensively scan the literature for nomenclature chane:es which affect Butte co,,mty, it is a (relatively) simple matter to note other chan,-es for Ca.litomia outside of Butte county. or course, this is bo1md to be as hit and miss as other systems, but alot can be pulled r together nonetheless. Contributions to this column woul.d be welcome. Current and retrospective (1969-1981) changes will be presented, including complete literature references, with controversies and disagreements among authorities indicated. Range extensions will. not be covered. Future updates will also include some synoptica1 t.reatment.s at the family lEWel.
