Executive Commi ttee Changes There have been three recent developments on the Executive Committee. After serving f o r two years as Chair man of the Committee, Paul Marcontell has resigned and been replaced by Reynold Weidenaar. We extend grateful and sincere thanks to Paul for all h is hard wbrk, and we welcome Ren to his new dut1es and wish him the best of luck! Bruce Taub, who h as been Editor of the ASUC Journal of Music Scores for the past ten y ears, ha s also stepped down. We wish to thank him for his excellent and dedicated work, and are happy to report that he will continue with the Committee i n an a dvisory capacity. The new editor is Scott Eyerly , and we welcome him to the Journal and to the Executive Committee . Finally, we are very please d that Joelle Wallach has assumed the editorship of the ASUC News - Bulleti n ~ which makes it possible for us to initiate an accelerated and very desirab l e publication schedule. Dr. George Umberson, Director oi the Arizona State University School of Music is pleased to invite the American Society of University t o hold i ts 20th Annual Cohference on the Tempe Ari zona Campus, Wednesday March 27 through Saturday Marth 30, 1985. The only event scheduled for Wednes day evening is the meeting of the Executive Committ ee and National Council. Concerts, papers, and panels will run Thursday morning through Saturday evening. If there is enough interest (about 40 persons are needed) a charter bus trip to the Grand Canyon will be arranged. The estimated cost is $ 75, which includes transportation and overnight lodging at one of the Grand Canyon lodges. Food is not included. Reservation forms will be sent out with a later mailing.

Submissions deadline is October 1, 1984. Scores for solo (instrumental or vocal), chamber , chorus, wind ensemble, chamber o r chestra, and electronic media should be sent to ASUC 20, School of Music, Arizona State University, Tempe,_ Arizon~ 85287 . Howard Johnson's Motel, adjacent to the campus, will be the conference motel, although a block of rooms has been set aside at the Tempe Holiday Inn (about,­ blocks from the school of music). Tempe is 15 to 20 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and both motels mentioned above furnish convenient complimentary transportation. New Music America The seventh annual New Music America festival of new music will be held from November 1st through 10th, 1985, in Los Angeles, California. Focusing on the rich diversity of developments in music and sound, New Music America-1985 will present concerts, performances, exhibitions, and events that exemplify current trends in art and technology. As a center .for the new, the Los Angeles festival will provide a view toward the future of music and sound in this country. New Music America- 1985 is being produced by a consortium of organizations and individuals. Included in this group are: California Institute of the Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art, Independent 's Association, Los Angeles Philharmoni Los Angeles Actor's Theatre, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, Otis Art Institt.te of Parson's School of Design, Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art, and Monday Evening Concerts. Particular emphasis will be given to innovative works which highlight that which is unique to Southern California. · Still in the planning stages, New Music America-1985 is seeking proposals from composers, performers, and artists in other media who use sound in their work. New York City Gay Men's Chorus The New York City Gay Men's Chorus Composition Competition announces the fir~t annual NYCGMC · Composer's Competition. A Grand Prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the winning composer of a ten-minute composition that has not been previously published or performed. The winning work will be published by a major music publisher and be premiered by the New York City Gay Men's Chorus at Lincoln Center in June of 1985. There is no limit on the number of works a composer may enter, but all entries must be submitted no later than September 1, 1984. Pro Arte Quartet The Pro Arte Quartet, in residence at the University of Wisconsin, 455 North Park Street, Madison, WI 53706, is soliciting string quartets for performance. Send to the the above address. [2] National Association of Plans have been made for three concerts during the Composers-U.S.A. 1984-85 season. The programs will feature works by composers who are membe r s of the New York Chapter of NACUSA. The concerts are scheduled for November !~, 1984; January 7, 1985; and April 28, 1985. The January concert will take place at Carnegie Recital Hall, while the other two programs will take place at Christ and Saint Stephen's Church (120 West 69th Street) in New York City. Composers interested in participating in these programs should submit works to: Max Lifchitz, Chairman, Program Committee, 862 Wes t End Avenue (apt. 3F), New York, NY 10025. Compositions for solo instruments or chamber groups up to ten performers will be considered. All scores should be clearly identified with the name, address, and telephone number of the composer. In order to facilitate the return of the scores, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope (please note, metered stamps are not acceptable for the return envelope). Composers will be responsible for engaging their own musicians and for super­ vising rehearsals and performance of their works. Only members of the New York Chapter of NACUSA who have paid their dues for the 1984-85 season will be considered for inclusion. George Eastman Prize A $5,000 first prize will be offered for a work involving double bass by the Eastman School of Music, 26 Gibbs Street, Rochester, NY 14604. Submissions must arrive fore December 31, 1984, and must fall into one of several categories: contra­ ;s solo, contrabass plus tape, contrabass plus , and contrabass in several other combinations. Am e rican New Music Works in several media (solo woodwind, small and large Consortium chamber ensembles, and tape) are being accepted by the ANMC until December 1, 1984 for premiere performances at their 1985 festival and publicatim by Salabert. Baroque Choral Guild Second Annual Choral Composition Competition. Prizes up to $500 and several California performances.
