An experience they needed, an experience we gave…

Most often, as one enters the bookstore, what does the eye witness? Neat arrangements and stacking of volumes in systematically lined shelves. A revolving magazine stand. A table of discounted books. Employees walking around listlessly and seemingly unaware and ignorant of the books surrounding them.

If that’s the general ambience of most bookstores, ‘inviting’ is an adjective that will be sniggered at.

Intended to promote the bookstore, we set about creating an experience for the viewers, which might give them an insight into the basic purpose of our venture. In the way of classic poetic justice, we stumbled upon a line, which neatly summarized our intentions in few words ‘…and the rest is rust and stardust.’

It was not just an art installation; it was a foray into the promise we intend to keep. The promise of a getaway.

The Flitting Fables is a concept, a thought, and the dichotomy between reality and fantasy. It is our honest attempt to put forth reading in its stark beauty, as an intimate experience, an almost spiritual journey, of being transported into the realm of possibilities.

We set about to find a way to convey this profound ideology in a physical form, which the bystander can experience, and tried to create a space which might compel the viewer to feel the basic pleasure of the mere act of reading. highlights of the installation

We used a chair as a symbol of mortality, of the inane humanness we possess, levitated into nothingness, surrounded by downy clouds and wonder. The chair itself was a piece of art with the bottom half succumbing to rust and the top ascending into sequined perfection. the experience Levitated, ethereal and sublime, it was not just an installation, we still insist, it was an experience.
