The first part reviews the project, indicating that 53 educators were placed with 50 businesses, spending 1 day at the worksitt:: to discuss and develop lesson activities. This part also provides a list of participants; strategies for using the handbook; sample brochures, handouts, agenda, and evaluation instruments; and comments from business and educator evaluations of the project. The second part presents 43 workplace applications lesson plans developed in the project organized into the following five career pathways: arts and communication, business and marketing, health and human services, technology and industry, and science and natural resources. For each lesson plan, the handbook provides a profile of the business involved; the title, preparing instructor, and suggested grade level of the lesson; a description of the skills applied; the state learning goals covered; the specific goals for student learning; the amount of time needed to complete the lesson; a list of materials needed; an overview of activities and directions for completing them; and suggested assessment methods. Weare thankful for all the support, encouragement and sharing that occurredbetween all of these partnership efforts. Our project was very successful, but only because we learned so much from thosewho had gone before us. We have learned a great deal fromour own project experiences and it isour intent to build on whatwe have learned, repeat the process and expandthe model. This handbook is meant to bea tool that teachers can use to connect the classroomto the world of work. The teachers that were part of this pilot project worked with theirbusiness partners to design lesson activities that they thenused in their classroom. Asyou begin to use some of the lessons to bring workplace relevanceto your classroom, take the timeto send me a note to let me know if thisbook was useful foryou.
