April 28 & 29, 2011 Nebraska Educational Technology Association • La Vista Embassy Suites & Conference Center Welcome 1 NETA 2011— e3: empower, encourage, engage Welcome to the Nebraska Educational Technology Association’s annual spring conference. Plans for this 2011 Conference, e3: empower, encourage, engage, began 12 months ago in an effort to make this year’s conference a memorable experience for everyone. Your two-day conference experience is designed to provide you with ideas and solutions as you “empower, encourage, and engage” students! There are keynote sessions given by nationally acclaimed speakers and a choice of at least 11 breakout-sessions per hour from the 165 offerings. This year the BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) sessions will be held both days in the Wingtip Room. These sessions provide a chance to work on your own computer as you explore new resources (preregistration required). The BYOL sessions have been extended to 90 minutes this year. Playgrounds will be held Thursday from 11:30 AM–1:15 PM in the Gatsby Room, where you can experience new technologies with the playground leaders. Playgrounds will also be offered again on Friday from 11:30–1:15 in Windosr X. The Conversation Strand is new this year. Come and “learn from the group,” not from an individual presenting. Come to the Marriott Library for the Conversation strand. The PLN Plaza will be held near the Marriott Library. The strength and power of the conference comes from the members who graciously step forward to present, host rooms, submit student contest entries and share their expertise with other educators. Your presence at the 2011 NETA Conference signifies that districts and institutions across the state understand the importance of the collaboration and sharing that takes place not only in the session rooms, but in the hallways and tables that surround the conference. These teachers, are encouraging students to: ‘’Make your mark—See where it takes you.’’ A quote from Peter Reynolds. Animationish in the Classroom Joan Allvin, Donna Nielsen & Tammy Sorensen, Santee Community School We’ll demonstrate a variety of ways Animationish can be utilized in the elementary classroom. This was a Learning Web project. Bringing History and Mathematics Alive Sandra Meyer & Janelle Wallinger, West Holt Public School The West Holt Learning Web designed a program that worked with 4th & 7th grade students. The 4th graders created projects to be included on a website for a local museum designed by the web design class. The 7th graders used their MacBooks and iPhoto to create terminology booklets. Team Members included Laurie Lieswald, Janelle Wallinger, Tracy Gibbens, Sandra Meyer, & Kathy Randolph. Clickers in the Classroom Kandi Eisenhauer, Angie Guenther & Robert Rail, Niobrara Public School This poster session will show how clickers are being used to engage elementary students. The blogs were open to the online world, therefore anyone with an interest in their topic could read and comment on their posts. Franklin Schools & Animation-ish Paul Nepodal, Franklin Public Schools Our learning web team has been using Animation-ish with different levels of students to enhance their learning in regards to state standards in reading and math, as well as music, art, and school-wide informational newsletters. Google Docs/Google Calendar/ANGEL Angie Hunzeker & Peggy Williams, Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer Come and see how Google Docs, Google Calendar, and ANGEL can be used in your classroom. Google Calendar can be used for weekly lesson plans and Google Docs allows our 9th grade English students to collaborate with each other. Since students are exposed to many opportunities in college for on-line learning, ANGEL is a good introduction to that type of learning within our English Composition Course. iCan Learn! Briana Hawks, Sutherland Public Schools Sutherland 2nd and 3rd grade students are using iPod Touches to practice their math facts. Also, see how 3rd grade students have been using Animation-ish to animate multiplication facts.
