Attention: ALL HHS RADIOLOGISTS Coming soon to your Inbox…

At the last Council of Chiefs meeting it was discussed that all professional staff will be required to complete 5 mandatory e-learning requirements as part of their Credentials process.

ALL HHS physicians, including radiologists, will be required to complete these elearning modules as part of the credentialing reappointment process; this will be sent out December 1st.

PLEASE READ IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW

FAQ: Is eLearning mandatory for non-employees of HHS? Yes, HHS policies applies to the following: “All Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) staff including members of the medical, dental and midwifery staff, affiliates, contractors, volunteers, hospital affiliates and learners.”

What are the mandatory eLearning modules and why are they mandatory? There are 5 mandatory modules (others may be added but they are “recommended” versus mandatory): Privacy (FIPPA, PHIPA) Mandated by the Privacy Commissioner of Ontario Code Reviews (Red, Green) Mandated by the Ministry of Labour Violence in the Workplace Mandated by the Ministry of Labour WHMIS Mandated by the Ministry of Labour Values Based Code of Conduct Mandated by HHS Executive Leadership

Why were eLearning modules always sent to my HHS email address? The Clinical Practice & Education (CP&E) department only had HHS employee numbers and email addresses. CP&E, in collaboration with Medical Affairs, has now isolated professional staff using license number (e.g. CPSO) as the unique identifier. This professional group (mostly physicians) will now have eLearning modules sent to the email address used for annual credentialing.

Can I access the eLearning modules without going into Citrix? Yes, the modules can be opened, accessed, and completed without Citrix.

Is it possible to change the content of the modules to make them shorter and more relevant to physicians? Yes. The content experts for each of the mandatory modules are currently working on developing new modules for physicians… this will be completed sometime within 2020. For now, the 5 mandatory eLearning modules will be sent out in their current format. Please know we’re working on it!

Roll out plan: December 1, 2019 5 mandatory eLearning modules will be sent to all credentialed professionals

February, 2020 Question will be added to the re-appointment process: “Do you commit to completing the 5 mandatory eLearning Modules during 2020?” Yes / No (N.B. submission of reappointment application will not be held if eLearning is not complete)

► Fall, 2020  CP&E will send compliance report to each Chief

Having an idea for a research project is very exciting! Unfortunately though projects often come with a number of costs, which might be staff time, equipment, publication costs or travel to present the project at a conference. It can be challenging for investigators to find volunteers or free labour to carry out these projects and are often having to pay out of their own pockets to travel to present their results. No matter what your costs are though, there are a number of grants available, big or small that can assist in funding any part of your project. Some grants will cover your equipment costs (i.e. CFI); some may fund your students (i.e. Mitacs), while others may cover your project as a whole (i.e. NSERC and CIHR).

Through the Health Research Services Department at McMaster University, a list of upcoming available grants is available to researchers on a weekly basis. I would encourage all staff to request to be on this distribution list by contacting: [email protected]

In addition, Hamilton Health Sciences has grants available, which recently a number of investigators in the Department of Radiology have been successful in obtaining. These grants in particular are aimed at those investigators that are early in their research careers and need some financial assistance to get their research programs established. For more information about these grants, please visit: https://www.hamiltonhealthsciences.ca/Research/

If you need any assistance in determining a grant that is right for you, please do not hesitate to reach out to me so that I can be of assistance!
