Introduction

Key Achievements

 The NSW Premier’s Primary and  209,389 students (84.5%) achieved Secondary School Sport a Diamond or Gold Award, meeting Challenges have achieved growth the recommended national target in student numbers each year since for physical activity of 60 minutes 2008.  1,148 schools completed the  NSW Premier’s Spoorting Challenge Challenge. Primary School Sport Challenge

Key Features

Secondary School Sport Challenge

Key Features

Grants to Schools

Scholarship Awards

The Scholarship Awards are sponsored by the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge and presented to a boy and girl from Year 11 or below in each of the ten school sport associations. The Scholarship Award recognises the sporting achievements and future potential of recipients. Recipients must have demonstrated that they are excellent ambassadors for their school and their chosen sport, and are continuing their studies in Year 12.

The scholarship is a cash grant to be used to alleviate recipients’ educational and sporting costs.

Promotions

National Rugby League (NRL) tickets

A numbber of exciting opportunities were provided by NRL for students of schools registered to participate in the 2013 NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge. These included:

 Family pass (4 tickets) to the State of Origin match on 5 June. The winning student, from The Pocket Public School (near Lismore), received a signed jersey plus another signed jersey for their school; and

NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Student Medal

In July/August 2013, a NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Medal was distributed to every public school in readiness for schools’ end-of-year presentation ceremonies. The Student Medal allows schools to recognise a student who has shown tremendous sporting spirit and enthusiasm, possibly a leader among their peers. The student may or may not be the best athlete, but they have made a consistent, conscientious effort in school sport and been supportive, Luke was the recipient of encouraging and perhaps inspiring in their Heathcote Public School’s 2013 sporting endeavours. NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Newsletters

Four editions of the newsletter were published in 2013. These provided updates on the progrress of schools in the primary and secondary Challenges, highlighted key events and activities such as Ambassador visits to schools and informed schools about competitions and available professional learning resources and courses.

Side by Side Articles

An article about the Challenge was published on the Department’s intranet in Side by Side to launch the Primary and Secondary School Sport Challenges.

Other avenues for publicity and promotion included various editions of SchoolBiz as well as local public media outlets (newspaper and radio), highlighting Ambassador visits.

1,255 teachers received a NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Award certificate to recognise their work in organising the Challenge in their schools.
