Karts, Festivals and More!

I had an opportunity to do our cover story interview with Sabré Cook. This talented twenty-year-old professional Go-Kart racer has a fascinating story. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill go-karts. The karts go over 100 mph! Sabre is most definitely breaking down all the barriers when it comes to a sport Thank you that is dominated by men. She’s already raced not only throughout the United States; she’s recently participated in races around the world. I have no doubt that someday I’ll turn on my TV Sunday afternoon, and she’ll be racing in for all the love Indianapolis 500. I’m just about done with my annual booking of the bands for the Fat Tire Festival in Fruita. My goal is to get more locals out to the festival this year. In and support! years past, we’ve booked bands from the eastern slope. This year, the schedule will be dominated by local bands, filled with major musical talent. Look for that announcement to take place in by mid-March. The festival draws people from over 30 states in the US and several countries around the world. If you’ve never been, try to mark your calendar April 23-27, and come out to Fruita. This will mark Fat Tire Festival’s 20th Anniversary. The bands will be OVER 145 BULK ORGANIC SPICES playing Friday and Saturday afternoon/evening. If you attend, make sure you stay long enough to grab yourself one of the many giveaways they do between bands. I’ve seen them throw out thousands of dollars worth of mountain-biking gear to the folks who come up to the front of the stage. We have some exciting expansion plans coming up this year that I know our readers are going to love. Look for new sections in the paper that will offer you some amazing travel discounts, dining discounts and huge savings on entertainment. I’m approaching 2015 with renewed attitude to take The Source to a new level. I can see our printing more papers and expanding our distribution locations. We currently deliver to Grand Junction, Fruita, Palisade, Battlement Mesa, Parachute, DeBeque, Rifle, Silt, Montrose and Delta. As we expand, we will also be covering different areas of this great state. There is so much going on in Colorado that it can be quite a challenge to cover the areas that aren’t close to us—but we’re up for the challenge. I welcome Leslie Faulkner to our team. Leslie comes to us with 12 years of radio and newspaper experience from Steamboat Springs. I can already tell that she will be a great addition to our operation.
