Layden - one of Notre Dame’s famed “Four Horsemen” - coached at Duquesne for seven seasons from 1927-33. It was under Layden that the Dukes fi rst became recognized as a national football power. After leading DU to a 10-1-0 record and an appearance in the 1934 Festival of Palms Bowl, Layden left 2015 DUKES TO WATCH Duquesne to take over head coaching duties at Notre Dame.
