“I think I got rimmed around my glass” CAPTAIN’S REPORT TO THE 53RD NATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING National Chairman, Members of the National Executive, Honorary Life Members, International Presidents and Chairmen, Club Captains, Vice Captains, Junior Vice Captains and Club Secretaries. Introduction 1. Membership 2. Monthly Games 3. Prize Table 4. Golf Development 5. PRO 6. National Sponsors 7. Clothing 8. Equipment 9. Andrew Mentis/VC 10. JVC 11. Local Nationals Coordinator 12. Treasurer 13. Starter Table 14. Fire Side Chats As my term of office nears its conclusion, I can honestly say that it has been a great privilege to serve the members of Southern Natal Nomads. I was warned at the beginning of my term by our previous captain that it goes by in the blink of an eye which it certainly has done. I had set a number goals at the beginning of my captains year and can honestly state I have been able to achieve all of these with a very hard working committee. 1. Membership Our New Membership officer Ryan Keys is doing a great job and our membership at present stands at 165. We as committee undertook the challenge to have a full scale drive for good new members and we have already inducted 25 new members in my year. We still have another 3 inductions in March and April to be done, which will bring our total inductions for the year to 28. Our average age has also dropped to below 58 we are now sitting at 57.8 which is 3 years less than 2016. 2. Monthly Games With the increase in our membership from last year we were attracting an average of 95 players in the beginning of my year as captain to play in our monthly games which has now increased to 105 players. Even at our golf clubs which are unfortunately renowned for poor attendances we are still over 95 players in the field. 3. Prize Table This part of our monthly game continues to impress us with an awesome PRO and generous members always willing to add to our amazing prize table. 4. Golf Development We continue to sponsor junior golf in Southern Natal. We attended the Alfred Country Champs tournament and KZNGU junior’s year end tournament played at Southbroom, and Margate and we did the trophy presentation to the winners with Taylor Made Nomads branded golf balls. We handed prizes of Taylor Made Nomads branded golf balls for prizes to Shelagh Digby from Natal Junior Golf as well. Shaka Langa is actively involved with the Golf Development programme at Margate country club for all our juniors. We have also been able to help 5 of our local golf clubs being Golf Club, Golf Club, Underberg Country Club, Port Edward Golf Course and Kokstad country Club with equipment direly needed to help the clubs to keep going in these tough times. 5. PRO Our PRO Ryan Ringo is doing a fantastic job. All our day sponsors for next year are taken care of and our prize table is looking brilliant. Ryan also has new sponsors coming in to assist us with a string of new sponsorships and aided in a very strong financial position our club. I really need to express my gratitude to Ryan and all of our very generous local sponsors. CAPTAIN’S REPORT TO THE 53RD NATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING ctd.

6. National Sponsors We continue to be blessed with Glenbrynth and Stella at every game for which we are grateful. Taylor Made continue to supply us with balls and golfing equipment at reasonable rates. A big vote of thanks to the rest of our national sponsors and all they do for our club and Nomads as a whole. 7. Clothing Thanks to Sean Willis our teal caps are a winner and the members that attend national tournaments or away games find it easy to recognise one another. The tradition we started at Southern Natalof “jacketing” our newly inducted Southern Natal Nomads makes the evening even more special. We have put forward a new design of badge awards with a southern right whale on following in the footsteps of both Boland (Grapes) and Western Province (mountain) 8. Equipment Our Equipment officer Tony Westoby has been superb in carrying out his portfolio. The honours board and past captain’s photos have also been updated. Trophies polished and repaired where necessary. 9. Andrew Mentis/VC Our Vice-Captain Roelof Meyer did exceptionally well and over shot his initial target of R 95 000.00 to be split between 2 charities being the NSRI and Alexander home for the aged. I look forward to him taking over our club as captain. I know he will do an excellent job. 10. JVC Our JVC Tony Westoby is having great success with the away games. We had an average of 45 Southern Natal Nomads going to Underberg, Kokstad and most recently Port Edward. What excellent away games they were for building team spirit and camaraderie. 11. Local Nationals Coordinator Our New National Coordinator Sean Willis really goes the extra mile to make sure that everything is in place regarding his portfolio and we have 28 nomads for our Nationals tournament which is 4 up on our allocation. We also had 17 Nomads as reserves which shows the strong team spirit with in Southern Natal. 12. Treasurer Our new treasurer Raj Lakraj is doing a fantastic job with a realistic budget which we remained within, thanks to him keeping a tight grip on our purse strings. We as a club are looking very good financially. 13. Starter Table Our ladies continue to be the backbone of our monthly games. Our New match secretary Allison Keys, Linda Hall and newly inducted Amy-Lee Darcy have our table well organised. 14. Fire Side Chats We have reintroduced our fire side chat for new potential Nomads, which we have found to be effective and makes their Nomadic beginning a little more special. We find it provides them with a greater understanding of Nomads and their responsibilities. I will cherish my time as captain of the Southern Natal Nomads for years to come. The future of Southern Natal Nomads looks very good with new and younger blood being introduced into the club and our spirit at an all-time high. This has directly increased playing numbers and the overall camaraderie within the club. Long may this continue? I would like to thank my committee for all their hard work and dedication during my term as Captain, your hard work and dedication to our club has been instrumental in the successes this year. To our National Chairman, Richard Plumb, I would like to congratulate you and the National Executive on a job well done.
