Fall is here and it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the beauty in our parks, try a new class and connect with your neighbors in the community. Along with the turning leaves and crisp weather, there are some big changes and exciting opportunities ahead for North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District. Earlier this year, the City of Happy Valley notified North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) of its intent to withdraw from the District on December 31, 2017. The City desires to provide parks and recreation services and activities within the city limits. Since residents of Happy Valley voted in 2006 to join the District, NCPRD has developed and maintained the parks, trails, and natural areas in Happy Valley, and provided recreation and sports programming and special events. We respect Happy Valley's desire to offer parks and recreation services directly to its own residents, and we have been working with the City toward a smooth transition of responsibilities. We will continue to keep you, our District residents, informed of this process. Upon completion of Happy Valley’s withdrawal, NCPRD will return to its original boundaries and remain the second largest parks and recreation district in the state, serving over 102,000 residents in Milwaukie and the unincorporated areas of Oak Grove, Jennings Lodge, Oatfield and Sunnyside. NCPRD is dedicated to serving our community and ensuring our District residents continue to receive the same high-quality amenities, top-notch facilities, and preferential access to programming that you have enjoyed for years. NCPRD will be focusing on exciting new opportunities, including the Strategic Partnership with North Clackamas School District, to further enhance recreation programs and community spaces in areas with the greatest need. As the details of this partnership become finalized, including the acquisition of Concord Elementary School, NCPRD looks forward engaging the community in an extensive public outreach process to help shape the vision for any newly acquired assets. This season, we invite you to go out and enjoy the wonderful recreational opportunities we have planned for you. Take advantage of over 300 programs, including new Tango and East Coast classes, and special events such as the Famous Thanksgiving Dinner. You’ll find something for all ages and interests in the 2017 Fall Discovery Guide. Have a wonderful fall season! Scott Archer, Director

As a County Service District, North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District is governed by the five-member Board of County Commissioners for Clackamas County acting as the Board of Directors for NCPRD. Until recently, the District was primarily represented by the District Advisory Board (DAB), a nine-member volunteer board of citizens that were charged with making recommendations to the NCPRD Board of Directors. With the future make-up of the District Advisory Board still undetermined due to Happy Valley’s withdrawal, the Board of County Commissioners are assuming the role of the District Advisory Board in addition to their current role as the District’s Board of Directors. Until such time that DAB meetings resume, the Board will hold monthly public meetings within the District on the third Thursday, with the agenda being dedicated solely to NCPRD business. Citizens are invited to attend these public meetings. For further information, please visit ncprd.com/public-meetings.
