4 Council Reports

As this is the first edition of the Mylander Magazine for 2020 let me take this opportunity to wish all of Myland’s residents a very Happy New Year.

I anticipate this year to be a busy one for our Council. We have several new Councillors who were elected late last year and are already bringing new ideas and enthusiasm to the Council. During the year there will be the main annual events starting in May with theAnnual Community Meeting, which is not strictly a Council event, but a meeting of residents to discuss and hear reports from Councillors on their work. It is facilitated by our Council and this year we have two very good speakers already lined up. I won’t say anymore at present other than to say both will be speaking about two very topical issues. There will be, as always, light refreshments before the meeting; this is a good time to grab a good seat and perhaps have an informal chat with your Councillors. August Bank Holiday sees the Annual Myland Fete, which only seems to get better each year thanks to Marina and her team.

One major event we anticipate will materialise in July of this year is our new Village Green, on the site of the current Mill Road Sports Field on Mill Road. I presented this to Council back in 2014 and have been working on this since then. By the time of publication, legal paperwork should have been signed off. The current occupiers, Colchester Rugby, are due to move off-site in July and we hope to gain vacant possession at that time. However, there will be landscaping works to be carried out and as the green space links to the Colchester Northern Gateway (South) project, this will involve liaising with Colchester Amphora, particularly the main Boulevard. There is no doubt, however, if plans are realised, the residents of Myland will have a very special place to call their own and I hope to be proud of. Where legal or contractual matters allow, we will keep residents informed.

My colleague and Vice Chairman Pete Hewitt will continue leading on the ‘Greening the Parish’ Project. There are some excellent proposals to make Myland even more appealing for those of us who live here, some will reach fruition quickly, others a bit longer. The success of our bulb and tree give away days goes to show the enthusiasm within Myland for this work.

Finally, remember if you want to raise and matters or ask us questions there is a comments section on our main website, www.mylandcommunitycouncil.gov.uk. There is also our Facebook page and you can always pop into our office in Nayland Road or come along to our Council or Committee meetings and ask questions.

Cllr John Stewart Chairman

5 Council Reports

Your guide to Myland Community Council meetings Myland Community Council (MCC) currently has three standing committees: Planning & Highways, Resources, Policy and Strategy, and Community Engagement.

1. Planning & Highways:

MCC has the statutory right to be consulted on all planning applications within the boundary of the parish. The Committee will look at each application and agree the response to be submitted to Colchester Borough Council, who will make the final decision. The applications range from small household extensions right up to the Northern Gateway development either side of the A12. Currently the Committee is also tracking progress on the Severalls and Chesterwell developments.

Upcoming meetings: 5th February, 4th March and 1st April at 7.30pm 101 Nayland Road Colchester CO4 5EN

2. Resources, Policy & Strategy

This Committee is responsible for keeping an eye on Council finances; making sure the Council is within budget and making plans for future years. The Committee each year will make recommendation to the full Council regarding the amount of the precept, which pays for MCC services.

Upcoming meetings: 18th March at 7.30pm 101 Nayland Road Colchester CO4 5EN

3. Community Engagement

This Committee is relatively new, with responsibility for the Myland Summer Fete, but since its inception in January 2017 it has been looking at other ways to engage with the community. It also has responsibility for the Council’s noticeboards and The Mylander.

Upcoming meetings: 17th February, 16th March and 20th April at 7.30pm, 101 Nayland Road Colchester CO4 5EN

Full council meetings take place at Mile End Methodist Church. Upcoming meetings: 26th February, 25th March and 29th April at 7.30pm

Agendas are posted on the Council website the week prior. www.mylandcommunitycouncil.gov.uk

6 Council Reports

Planning & Highways Committee So here we are at the start of another year and already the planning applications are rolling in. For those new residents to Myland, I would like to provide some advice if they are thinking of doing home extensions, which many seem to do even in new builds. You should always check first with either ourselves or Colchester Borough Planning Department to see if you require planning permission. In many areas ‘permitted development’ rights have been withdrawn, also known as ‘builder’s rights’.

This year major developments like Chesterwell and Kingswood Heath (Severalls) continue to come online. Your Council has regular meetings with these developers and share any concerns, as well as monitoring progress. We should also see the Northern Gateway Sports Complex open; providing regional standard sports venues in Myland. In July, the Colchester Rugby Club and associated sports clubs will move to the new location from their current base on Mill Road Sports Field. Once vacated, Mill Road Sports Field will become the new Myland Village Green.

As a Council we continue to address road safety. Applications are lodged with the Local Highways Panel for a new roundabout and pedestrian crossing on Mill Road, between Bedford Road and Thomas Wakely Close. There is also an outstanding request for the provision of a pedestrian crossing on Brinkley Grove Road by Squirrels Field, to assist pupils going to the Gilberd School. However, there is competition and funds are finite so we do not know how long this may take, once approved. We are, however, supported by our County Councillor Anne Turrell.

We have also been working on the Mill Road Traffic Calming Scheme for some time now. Part of this has been completed in the Myland East Ward by Severalls Lane and outside the Rugby Ground. However, further completion has been halted due to Highway Engineers reporting that the next stage, between Thomas Wakely Close and Bedford Road, as being unviable logistically. We have asked Essex County Council to be involved in any decision making on the remainder of the monies allocated to this project. Cllr John Stewart Chairman

7 Council Reports

Resources, Policy & Strategy Committee

Since my last report, the RP&S Committee have fully reviewed our business plans and agreed the budget for 2020/21, with full council approval in November 2019.

The business plan sets out our priorities as a council for the services we currently provide and the things we would like to achieve, to improve the quality of life for residents.

We aim to draw down on existing reserves and allocate new budgets to meet plans for the village green, new community centres, improving the Parish by planting trees, bulbs and shrubs, and making funds available to local groups who need support. We plan on also focusing on maintenance, such as the benches and bus shelters, for which we are responsible, as well as litter collection. We are making good progress with several projects which will ensure that reserved funds are spent.

The budget is available to see on our website and if anyone has any questions about how the money will be spent please contact me at [email protected]

Cllr Alison Jay Myland Access Group

We had, once again, a thoroughly enjoyable walk around the boundaries of Myland on Boxing Day last year. Despite there being only ten of us walking – perhaps due to the rather inclement weather – we raised a total of £117 for Young at Heart, who regularly meet in the Parish Halls. A big thank you to all those who helped – by donating raffle prizes, heating up the mince pies or even just by walking and donating – thank you!

Over last year we have positioned a couple of footpath signs which had become dislodged or broken. This year will be no different. We have a couple in mind, but please let us know of any A SMALL VETERINARY PRACTICE suggestions you may have. WITH A BIG HEART We have also started to clean up the area around Footpath 39, where it goes over the A12. We have begun clearing the piles of rubbish left in the layby on the A12 by inconsiderate drivers. Mayne Veterinary clinic is a small independent veterinary practice on Bergholt Road near We will continue this work by clearing the steps down to the A12 of overgrowth and giving the North Station in Colchester. We are also planning new footpaths in the area – one of them along the south side of the A12 through the landscaped green space being provided by the Chesterwell development.

There will be occasional litter picks, footpath clearing, signpost positioning and other activities throughout 2020 – feel free to join us!

You can get further news on these and other activities on the MCC web site www.mylandcommunitycouncil.gov.uk and other social media sites.

Have a healthy and Happy New Year!

Our Amy Foundation also continues to support Colchester General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (Colchester Hospital Charity), who were incredible in Amy’s final hours. Mile End Art Group

At the end of November, Councillor Marina de Smith and I met with members of the Mile End Art Group, in order to present them with a cheque from Myland Community Council. Following the great success of the Myland Fete in August, we were pleased to redistribute the profits from the fete among worthwhile groups and causes in the local area.

12 Council Reports

The group is well-established in Myland, having been founded more than a decade ago. It affords local people the opportunity to give free rein to their artistic skills and to share their passion for art.

Marina and I were impressed to see a range of materials being used by the artists such as oils, acrylic paints, watercolours and pencil. The group meets in the Parish Halls of St Michael’s Church on alternate Friday evenings. Meetings are of an informal nature, with members usually working with subject matter and media of their own choice. Some members have shown in various exhibitions, including Colchester Art Society and St Michael’s Church Art Show in past times.

In March 2019, four members of the group showed a wide range of pictures in an exhibition in the Colne Gallery at Colchester General Hospital. The group has a stall each summer at the Myland Fete where they exhibit their artwork, as well as providing an opportunity for children to paint a small picture. This is offered free of charge.

If you would like to learn more about the Mile End Art Group, please contact Jenny Goodey 01206 751077 Cllr Clare Williams

Spring bulb giveaway

On the 9th November, we held our annual spring bulb giveaway at the Council office on Nayland Road, with over 2000 bulbs of different varieties going to local households, schools, pre-schools and other organisations. We look forward to seeing Myland full of colour in a few months time and would love you to share your photos of the bulbs in flower on our Facebook page.

I had the honour of being asked to lay the wreath on behalf of Myland Community Council at the War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday, following the service at St Michael’s Church. The sun shone and many people turned out for the service. It was, as always, a very moving service and gave us all the chance to remember those who lost their lives in the wars. Cllr Marina de Smith

Nature Notes Did you buy a sprig of mistletoe at Christmas?

The mistletoe is a parasitic plant that attaches itself to a host tree. The berries are a favourite food of the blackcap, among other bird species, and the seeds are deposited via bird droppings.

The tree in my photo must be a favourite roost given how much mistletoe it is adorned with.

This was spotted when out walking. It is easy to think that dull grey winter days do not bring interesting or pleasing aspects of the natural world to our attention. This is not necessarily the case.

The walk I took with a couple of friends at the very end of November is a case in point. It was on what we might call a typical November day; grey skies, a threat of rain and a slight damp chill in the air that we decided to go for a walk in the Essex hinterland.

The first pleasing moment was on entering a small wooded area. Leaves that had already fallen had given us a multi-coloured carpeted trail to wind our way through the trees. This was not all, our walk coincided with the moment other leaves gave up their last hold on their mother tree and drifted, sometimes spiralled to earth to welcome us with a natural woodland ‘ticker-tape parade’.

Our walk took us on to a relatively high point in the Essex landscape as we arrived on Beacon Hill. The land before us was ploughed brown and fell away towards Spickets Brook. To our left, another wooded area had a canopy of copper coloured leaves. In the misty distance some three miles away we could just make out below the horizon the blackwater river winding its watery way through the landscape. It was unusual and deeply pleasing to see so much of the Essex landscape in one great vista.

15 Council Reports

After our walk we popped along to the local church in the grounds of Great Braxted Hall and walked the avenue to the church. The avenue was lined with yew trees of various shapes, sizes and age. The yew is synonymous with churches. Some suggest a pagan origin with the yew regarded as a sacred tree and others suggest they were simply planted to provide shelter.

As we walked the avenue, we set to flight a half dozen or so hen pheasants who squawked at us as they took to the air from the cover of the hedge. At the same time three cock pheasants ran across our path in the opposite direction toward thicker undergrowth. Lucky for the hen birds, no shooters around that day. The cock birds took no risks.

Sadly the church was closed, but it was beside the church yard we spotted the tree festooned with mistletoe.

For those who may be interested, my walk guide provided a couple of snippets of history about the church, firstly claiming that the remains of a 7th century Saxon King, Sebert, lay here and secondly that one Christopher Martin, Treasurer on the Mayflower, was married in the church in 1607. Unfortunately my search for more information about ‘King Sebert’ has been fruitless to-date.

A drab November day came up trumps with interesting sights, great views and a bit of local history. Cllr Pete Hewitt

We celebrated Christmas with carol singing at the Dog and Pheasant, at Tall Trees care home and our own carol service. The Rainbow Toddler Group enjoyed their usual Christmas party and Father Christmas paid a visit to give out presents to all the children.

Father Christmas also paid a visit to the MakeLunch Christmas meal, held on our premises on 2nd January. It was another enjoyable occasion - thank you to all in the community who helped or supported it in any way.

Beacon House, Colchester Women’s Refuge and Colchester Night Shelter have sent us thank you letters for the goods received from our appeal in November. We are grateful to those who responded to our request through the Mylander magazine. We had generous donations – thank you.

We continue with our charity coffee mornings (with a Bring & Buy stall) and if you haven’t been to one yet, then we would be pleased to see you at our next one on Saturday 15th February.

Plans for our 125th Anniversary Celebrations on the weekend of 2nd/3rd June are underway and more details will be given in the next edition of Mylander.

A reminder that we have a morning service each Sunday at 10.30 and if you need to contact our Minister, Rev Ken Chalmers, then his telephone number is Colchester 545253.

Young at heart (a club for the over 50’s) With the hustle and bustle of the Christmas and New Year period behind us we started the New Year in January on a quiet note, discussing plans for the year ahead.

In February we have Andy Ayton from the Colchester Library, who will be enlightening us on all the different services that libraries provide. Then in March, Pete Hewitt will be telling us about the nature around us, which most of us are probably unaware of. We will no doubt be getting out our binoculars afterwards.

April sees us on our annual trip to Perrywoods Garden Centre for our plants and shrubs ready for the summer, plus refreshments after.

A reminder that we meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 2.30pm – 4pm at Myland Parish Halls, Mile End Road. Do come along; you will be most welcome. Diana Swan

Mothers’ Union A very Happy New Year to you all. This especially includes our members who have been unwell. 2020 looks like being another busy year for us.

We didn’t meet in January (too close to the festive season). February is our A.G.M. when all our Committee are elected and members have the opportunity to air their views on everything.

March will be the time when the Rev John Chandler leads us in preparations for Lent. Lent is also the time when we hold our Lent Hunger Lunches every Friday from March 6th to April 3rd. They start at 12noon and consist of home-made soup, bread, cheese and fresh fruit. Payment is by donation; a pot is passed round at the end of the meal. April we shall hold our pre-Easter Communion.

We welcome visitors to all of our meetings. Why not come along, you might enjoy it and want to join us? Our meetings are held in the Church Hall on the first Wednesday in the month, starting at 2.30pm and all are welcome. June Chandler M.U. Secretary

Essex Police Christmas has gone and we are into the new year, although the days begin to get longer we still need to make our houses look occupied when we are not in and do what we can to protect our property.

Create the “Illusion of Occupancy”; when its dark make your home look like you are in:

• Leave lights on or put them on timers or daylight sensors to come on when it gets dark.

• Remember that no one lives in the hall or on the landing, so if you leave these lights on, supplement these with lights in rooms that you would normally occupy at that time of day i.e. lounge and kitchen.

• A carefully placed imitation TV or “Fake TV” can further add to that illusion of occupancy by making it look like the television is on. Some burglars may also listen at windows or letterboxes for sign of activity, so consider leaving a radio on within your home.

• Don’t forget the outside of your property too; if burglars see that it is lit, they are less likely to approach for fear of being seen.

Leave lights on, with energy efficient bulbs it costs very little now days and yet may save you lots!

A remotely monitored doorbell can let you know who is at your door and let you talk to them, making it appear that you are in. There are a number of these available now, such as “Ring” and “Nest”.

Taking care of your belongings

Be it a cycle, electrical goods, garden equipment or mobile phone it may have a serial number; make sure that you keep a record of it, and there are a number of property marking products available like indelible pens, SelectaDNA, SmartWater, CRE mark by CRE products to name but a few to make your property less attractive to thieves.

With jewellery and antiques, don’t forget to take photographs of it, include an “Object ID card” or ruler in a photograph to give it a scale. Some of these property marking products may also be suitable.

28 From inside the community

Mobile phone and personal music devices; don’t forget to make a note of the IME number of a mobile phone, to find it key in *#06#, with this if it’s stolen you can block it. You can download an app on mobile phones to find your phone and more importantly, wipe that data stored on it. Check your app store or mobile phone provider.

Many TV’s, mobile phones, computers and other electronics come pre-loaded with security and/or tracking software - make sure that it is activated. If you are storing valuable college work or other on that nice new laptop, don’t forget to back-up your work elsewhere, just in case you lose the laptop.

BIG Garden The Editor writes:

The BIG Garden occupies a field of formerly agricultural land within High Woods Country Park in Colchester. Since 2017, the Big Friendly Gardeners and Together We Grow CIC have managed the site as an independent community facility.

Wayne has taken advantage of the quiet time of year in the garden to sign up for some tree planting as part of Colchester Borough Council’s long-term plan to plant a vast amount in and around Colchester*

The plan for the TWG volunteers is to have 20 sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays over the next three months. Paul Horwood

*This is part of the Colchester Woodland Project, which will see over 200,000 trees planted across the borough over the next five years, including the planning of a new community woodland (hoped to begin at the end of 2020). It’s one of the greening steps the council is taking in response to the climate emergency.

To register to help plant, please email [email protected].

Details of all future planting events can be found at: www.colchester.gov.uk/colchesterwoodlandproject

Colchester Countryside Volunteer Rangers (CCVR)

We attended the Turner Rise Asda Christmas marketing on Sunday 1st December, which was held in the covered trolley park area.

Some of our volunteers and their families made some really nice things, as we do not normally stock Christmas items apart from a few Christmas trees made from hazel.

There were quite a few stalls selling all manner of goods; however I think the public appeared to be more focused on their shopping in the store! That said, we did sell a good few items including seven wooden snowmen made by one of our Committee members.

A big thank you to Elaine, Asda’s Community Champion, who kept a supply of hot chocolate and mince pies going. These were gratefully received, as it was quite a cold day.

We held our Christmas buffet at the Prettygate pub, Lexden, for the second year running. This is a combined CCVR and TWG event and is always popular, although the attendance this year was lower. (No doubt people were recovering from the trauma of who to vote for in the General Election!) Paul Horwood West Bergholt Gardeners The Gardeners rounded off 2019 with the annual Christmas Quiz evening, which is always a sociable and fun occasion. Over 40 members and their friends enjoyed wine, nibbles and an entertaining, but not too challenging quiz. As usual, we didn’t meet in January, but then resume our evening programme of talks as follows: • 17th February - Craig Thompson, “An Introduction to Cacti and Succulents”; • 16th March - Darren Lerigo, “What do I do with this Space”; • 20th April - Maike Windhorst, “Vegetable Self-sufficiency for all Seasons”; • 18th May - Steven Digby, “Current Trends in Garden Design”. In addition: West Bergholt Open Gardens will take place on 28 June 2020; Trips also planned in: June to RHS Wisley; July to Rosedale, Bures; August - TBC Meetings and talks are held in the Orpen Hall, West Bergholt, CO6 3BW and begin at 7.30pm. There is an Annual Membership fee, which gives entry to all the talks and members’ rates for the trips, but visitors are always welcome to come to any talk (£3.50 entry fee at the door) and to join us for our trips out.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH)

An obstacle course and mud run that raised some £12,000 for charity in its first ever staging last year will return this June.

The Piglet, Junior Hog is an entry-level version of the Whole Hog and Boss Hog runs that have been part of the Suffolk calendar for over 10 years. Its debut at Wantisden Hall, near Woodbridge, was a huge success as 550 people enjoyed a muddy, fun-filled day out.

This year the event will take place on Sunday, 7 June. It will be at the same place, in aid of the same good cause, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), and once again sponsored by Taylor Wimpey East Anglia.

There will be two courses. One will be over two-and-a-half kilometres and feature at least 10 obstacles. Children aged eight to 11 can take part, provided each is accompanied by a participating adult. The other will be over four kilometres and feature at least 20 obstacles. It will be open to anyone aged 12 and over.

Becky Redbond, EACH Events Fundraising Manager, said: “We’ve been the Whole Hog charity partner since 2017 and we were absolutely delighted when the organisers, Eight Point Two, decided to take their support a step further last year.

As a first-time event, the Piglet, Junior Hog was a resounding success and we really hope to see it develop and evolve into a mainstay. Anyone who took part last year will know there’s great fun to be had, with the courses featuring obstacles like cargo nets, tunnels, rivers and monkey bars. It’s extra special that parents can bring along their children to not only watch, but also take part. We look forward to seeing many families as well as Whole Hog and Boss Hog fans just wanting to run a shorter route.”

Runners will set off in waves at 9.30am, 10am, 10.30am, 11am and 11.30am. Tickets range in price from £12.50 to £17.50.

Everyone will receive a medal at the end. There will be food and refreshments available.

Suffolk & Essex Small Animal Welfare (SESAW) Eavesdropping can be very confusing. I thought the volunteers were celebrating having perfect eyesight when they were talking about seeing in 20 20 last month. Mum explained this year marks the start of a new decade which inspires many resolutions like getting fit - as she eyed my bulging tummy!

If you want to shed those extra festive pounds, don’t forget the Nayland 10K takes place on 5th July.

SESAW is one of the beneficiaries of this family-friendly day and dogs are welcome as shown in the photo taken by Brian Sanders. The pooch is proudly wearing one of the wood medals specially designed for last year’s entrants.

The website will be launched soon for anyone wishing to register at: www.nayland10k.co.uk

We welcomed Elaine, the Community Champion from Asda in Colchester recently when she brought us a big cheque. The store’s Green Token Scheme raised £500 which will help pay for heating all the dog and cat kennels through the winter. The mother and daughter Staffies in the photo will be among the animals keeping nice and warm whilst they wait for a new home together.

I may not have 20 20 vision but there’s nothing wrong with my sense of smell, which tells me dinner is nearly ready. Time to see what’s cooking in the kitchen for me, Kenny (the Boss) Chihuahua.

Rainbow Pre-school

We were very busy over the Christmas period; we enjoyed the Panto with some residents from Tall Trees care home, the children sung in our Christmas concert, we had our Christmas Fayre, and we had our party at Adventureland.

Over the next couple of months, we are going to be cooking and gardening, have some Easter fun and planning our visit to the zoo with the residents from Tall Trees.

As well as our normal activities— craft, small world, role play, messy play, maths, book corner, outside play—we are going to be introducing yoga to the children and introducing PE lessons for our school leavers.

We are a small setting based in the Well Methodist Church Hall, Nayland Road. We have an astro turf garden, which gives us access all year round to the outside space, and we are OFSTED rated ‘Good’. We have some spaces available for children aged 2-4 years, and we accept the 2, 3 and additional hours funding.

We are open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9am—3pm, with various session times available to suit your childcare needs.

Come and have a look round: give us a call on 07779349128 or email us at [email protected]

1st Myland Scout Group I would like to start by introducing myself— my name is Michelle King and I have been involved with Myland as the cub leader for over 15 years. I have recently taken over as the Group Scout Leader at Myland from Neil, who has moved onto another group. This is my first report for the Mylander, so here goes... The group has been busy as usual and the numbers in the sections remain high; we are currently full in Beavers and Cubs, and have closed our waiting list for any new Beavers at present— we hope to reopen it soon. We have welcomed a new Beaver leader, James Robinson, into the group, who has a child currently in Beavers, and William Gould has returned to Scouts as a leader, after being away at University. Leader-wise, we are doing well, but are always looking for more helpers should you be interested. The group all got together at Thorrington at the end of the term for a cold, wet, wintery December evening around the campfire; toasting sausages and drinking hot chocolate. We also had a good sing song, doing some traditional campfire songs, as well as some Christmas carols. The Beavers have been busy learning all about space. They have done first aid and been cooking pizzas. The Cubs have had an amazing term with a visit to the fire station; going in fire engines, learning about all the equipment and using the hose. They had a zombie apocalypse evening and have been learning about personal and home safety. They also had a trip to Chelmsford ice skating rink, followed by a sleepover. The Scouts enjoyed a packed programme - they had an evening at Go Outdoors, had a visit from Halfords for cycle maintenance and have been to the fire station, although unfortunately all the fire engines were called out, so a short hike around the area then a walk back. The fire fighters team came to entertain and the Scouts still had an enjoyable evening. They also braved the cold at winter camp, enjoying an amazing full Christmas dinner, tobogganing and swimming. Lastly, Rikki Talbot our Beaver Leader, presented Gus Edwards who is a young leader in Beavers with his young leaders’ belt and award—well done this is a massive achievement! I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who volunteers their help with the group, in any way. Without their dedication and commitment the group would not be the success it is today. 1st & 2nd Myland Rainbows Both units have had busy terms as usual.

The Rainbows are loving the new Interest badges, which reflect their outside hobbies and activities to be done at home. Animal Lover & Family Tree have been especially popular so far. We had a lot of girls move onto Brownies in the summer, which meant space to welcome more new Rainbows in September.

Don’t forget to sign up your daughter for some exciting, messy, adventurous fun on the registration page on the Girlguiding website.

We attended the Gig 4 Girls tribute concert at Charter Hall organised by our County team, as well as Colchester North Division Fun Day in the summer. But everyone is really excited to be finishing this term with a trip to Odeon for a special Girlguiding Screening of Frozen 2 with hundreds of other Rainbow, Brownies and Guides from the Colchester area.

The girls have also been learning new skills such as using a screwdriver, making puppets, and creating their own simple maps. Plans are underway too for a joint Myland Rainbow sleepover experience in the new year.

Have you ever considered volunteering with Girlguiding? Try new things, learn different skills and be a great role model for the girls in Myland. We would love to hear from you.
