A HAND BOOK FOR VOCATIONAL ADVISORS AND GUIDANCE OFFICERS

NATIONAL ASSN. & COUNCIL OF BUSINESS SCHOOLS 2400 Sixteenth Street, N. W. WASHINGTON 9, D. C.

19 5 8 PREFACE

Organized in 1912 for the specific purpose of serving the public in the su- pervision and direction it gives to business education, the National Association and Council of Business Schools has over the intervening period developed course structure, designated minimum offerings, and provided standards of op- eration for the protection of the student wanting sound instruction in business education. Its directory reflects the public confidence developed over this 46 years in making available to the general public its official listing. Recorded in this directory are the nation's schools that have provided evidence that they meet the minimum standards demanded by NACBS. They adhere to sound operating policies and practices. Their courses, as listed, meet required quantity and quality, and their teachers have certification by the National Council. They accept, on a basis of equity, transfer of work done in member schools and pro- vide throughout their schools free placement service to graduates of any other member school. This directory may therefore be accepted as a true criterion of the re- liability and worth of listed schools and a factual record of the programs available at each school. For specific information on courses, consult the catalog of the school itself. For general information on minimum course requirements and a synopsis of suggested subjects, consult the Standards of Practice for Pri- vate Business Schools, which is available on request from the Washington office. Schools marked with an asterisk (*) indicate institutions attended predomi- nantly by Negroes. Schools marked with a dagger (f) offer correspondence cour- ses in some subjects in addition to resident business courses. The figures at the right-hand side of the page are to be interpreted as follows: 1. First column, date of institution's founding. 2. Second column, student capacity. 3. The last five columns, where single figures are listed (1-2-3-4-5) rep- resent course approval as indicated below: 1. Stenographic 36 weeks 2. Secretarial 48 weeks 3. Executive Secretarial 72 weeks 4. Junior Accounting 36 weeks 5. Higher Accounting and Business Administration 72 weeks
