World Down Syndrome Day School Contest 2021: Share the Joy of Down Syndrome

We hope that you will consider partnering with HDSA to celebrate this very important day. We truly believe activities and events focusing on World Down Syndrome Day can have a tremendous impact for all students, in showcasing the abilities, talents and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. Who can participate?

➔ Halton Public, Catholic and French Elementary and Secondary Schools and Students ➔ Halton Private Schools and Students ➔ Schools and students outside of Halton may also enter, if there is a student or family member who has an HDSA Membership

Students may participate as individuals or groups of individuals/classrooms may participate on behalf of a school.

What are the prizes?

Individual Prizes: 1st Place - $100 + “Share the Joy of Down Syndrome” T-Shirt 2nd Place - $50 Book Store Gift Card + “Share the Joy of Down Syndrome” T-Shirt 3rd Place - “Share the Joy of Down Syndrome” T-Shirt

How to participate?

Up until January 31st 2021 ➔ Go to www.haltondownsyndrome.com/wdsd-contest and fill in the online registration form

February & March 2021 ➔ Learn more information about Down syndrome, check out the resource list available at www.haltondownsyndrome.com/wdsd-contest ➔ Watch the WDSD Contest Winners' videos from 2015-2019 to get ideas. ➔ Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day; although the official day is 3/21 schools may select any day(s) to celebrate ➔ Begin sharing the joy of Down syndrome!

Up Until April 16th 2021 ➔ Upload your submission on your social media channel of choice (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or TikTok) ➔ Please complete the online submission form with entries (with the corresponding consent forms) available on the HDSA website.

May 2021 ➔ HDSA will announce the winners of each age category

Rules

Eligibility ➔ Participants should meet all deadlines listed in the "How to Participate" section. Submissions ➔ One submission & social media channel per school contact and/or individual. ➔ Submissions must be posted on a public social media account and mention @thehdsa and #sharethejoyofds in the post. ◆ The submission account must also follow @thehdsa or @HaltonDownSyndromeAssociation on social media. ➔ HDSA must receive at least five (5) submissions per channel (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok) in order to award prizes. ➔ We welcome submissions in English and in French.

Winners ➔ The HDSA School Contest committee will select the winners based on the contest rubrics available on our website. Consent ➔ HDSA must have permission to use submissions on communication materials, website and social media, and at any public or virtual events; any individual in the submission must have given explicit permission to be filmed/photographed. Therefore, schools need to fill in, sign and upload the media consent form. ➔ HDSA will follow-up in the New Year to ask how the winning schools used their prizes for statistical purposes and has the right to use this information in marketing and advertising materials.
