LSU MEN’S BASKETBALL Martin Enrolls at LSU, Joins Team Terry Martin, Jr., of Monroe, La., who played for Texas Tech in the first part of the 2005-06 season, has enrolled at LSU and attended classes here Tuesday when the spring semester began … Martin, under the transfer rules, will sit out until the end of the fall 2006 semester and will have 2 1/2 years of eligibility remaining to play for LSU … He joined the team at practice on Jan. 19. Martin, Jr., played for his father, Terry Martin, Sr., at Richwood High School in Monroe where they won the Class 3A state championship … The Louisiana Sports Writers Association named Martin, Jr., the Class 3A Outstanding Player in the state after averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists a game … The 6-6 Martin started eight of the 14 games he played for the Red Raiders, averaging 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds a game.

Game No. 5 -- LSU 90, McNeese State 70 (Dec. 12, Baton Rouge) Tigers come out of a 10-day break and lead from start to finish against McNeese State, although the game had highlights and still showed the things the Tigers needed to work on … LSU shot 54 percent from the field, but was out rebounded for the first time all year (44-41) and again struggling with 27 turnovers … Five LSU players were in double figures, led by Glen Davis with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Darnell Lazare posted a career high of 19 points …Darrel Mitchell, who moved into second at LSU in all-time three-pointers made with 190, had a solid 18 points, while Tasmin Mitchell scored 13 and Tyrus Thomas doubled up for the second straight game with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Game No. 6 -- LSU 81, Louisiana-Lafayette 62 (Dec. 17, Baton Rouge) The Tigers cost themselves chances with turnovers and Louisiana-Lafayette kept firing back at LSU runs, before the Tigers held the Cajuns scoreless in the final 6:08 of the game to get the final margin … The Tigers dominated the game on the boards, out rebounding ULL, 57-28, with the Tigers getting 25 offensive boards to just seven for Louisiana-Lafayette … Tigers had 20 assists to 18 turnovers, while Louisiana Lafayette had 15 assists and 20 turnovers … Glen Davis had 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Darrel Mitchell had 17 points (eight assists) and Tasmin Mitchell doubled with 16 points and 11 rebounds … Darnell Lazare rounded out the double figure scorers with 12.

Game No. 7 -- LSU 94, UNO 53 (Dec. 13, Baton Rouge) Tigers were sluggish at the start, but picked up the intensity, especially coming out of the dressing room at intermission to extend their Louisiana school home-court winning streak to 56 games ... Darnell Lazare didn't score until the final five minutes of the first half and then posted 16 second half points to score a career high for the second straight game with 20 points ... Also at 20 points was sophomore Glen Davis, who doubled up with 20 points, 16 rebounds and a career tying four assists ... Darrel Mitchell, despite not hitting a three-pointer, had 19 points and six assists and Tyrus Thomas posted 11 points, 10 rebounds (his third straight double-double) and four blocks ... The Tigers shot 53.5 percent with 24 assists and just 12 turnovers (four in a 51-point second half), while out rebound- ing the Privateers, 49-30.

Game No. 8 -- Northern Iowa 54, LSU 50 (Dec. 19, Baton Rouge) The Tigers couldn't find an answer for the more experience Panthers as they missed shots, hitting 41 percent from the field, 3-of-11 from the arc and for the first time since March 3, 2004, less than 50 percent at the foul line ... LSU was 3-of-10 at the stripe or 30 percent ... Darrel Mitchell had the fourth highest scoring game of his career at 22 points, but it wasn't enough as Glen Davis was the only other player in double figures with 13 points and just four rebounds ... LSU out rebounded Northern Iowa, 31-30.

Game No. 9 -- LSU 75, Arkansas-Monticello 48 (Dec. 22, Las Vegas) The Tigers used a 12-0 run in the middle of the first half to gain a 33-21 halftime advantage and then went on to the win over the Division II Boll Weevils ... LSU shot 43.5 percent from the floor, holding Arkansas-Monticello to just 28 percent from the floor, while out rebounding UAM, 46-33 ... Darrel Mitchell had 18 points to lead LSU with Glen Davis adding 17 and Tyrus Thomas in 26 minutes, getting 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Game No. 10 -- Cincinnati 75, LSU 72 (Dec. 23, Las Vegas) The Tigers and Bearcats battled back and forth at Valley High School in Las Vegas before Cincinnati won the game on two late three-pointers while LSU was missing front end of two one-and-ones in addition to a late turnover ... Ben Voogd and Tyrus Thomas moved into the starting lineup for LSU ... The Tigers lost despite shooting 52.8 percent from the field and out rebounding Cincinnati, 38-25 ... However, LSU was just 2-of-8 from the three-point arc and had 23 turnovers, 14 in the first half ... Glen Davis led LSU with 21 points, while Darrel Mitchell had 17 points ... Thomas in his first start, doubled up with 12 points and 13 rebounds, with Tasmin Mitchell scoring 10.

Game No. 11 -- Ohio State 78, LSU 76 (Dec. 31, Columbus, Ohio) LSU had a chance to post its second win over a ranked team on the road, but four-late three-pointers by the Buckeyes were the difference as Ohio State rallied from 10 down in the final 3:22 as the Tigers failed to score on their final seven possessions ... LSU led by as much as 15 points with six minutes to go, 73-58 ... Glen Davis had a strong 25 points, including LSU's first 10 points of the second half ... Darrel Mitchell added 16, Tyrus Thomas his third straight double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds to go with four assists, five blocks and four steals, with Tasmin Mitchell adding 12 points and a team-high five assists ... LSU shot 46.7 percent for the game and out rebounded the Buckeyes, 35-29.

LSU MEN’S BASKETBALL Game No. 12 -- LSU 75, Tulane 58 (Jan. 3, Baton Rouge, La.) LSU did not have one of its better games, especially in the first half, appearing to have a hangover from the Ohio State loss, while looking ahead to playing No. 2 Connecticut, but it was enough to get a 17-point win over the Wave, the 58th consecutive victory for LSU at home over Louisiana schools ... Tyrus Thomas had 20 points to lead the Tigers to go with four blocks, while Darrel Mitchell scored 13, Darnell Lazare 12 and Glen Davis had his 17 double double of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds ... Thomas just missed his fourth consecutive double up with nine boards ... LSU shot 39 percent for the game (19-of-59), while Tulane hit just 32.2 percent ... LSU did have great success at the free throw line, making 26-of-31 (83.9%), including at one point 17 straight free throws ... LSU again had the rebounding edge, 42-39, with 16 assists, 12 turnovers and 14 steals.

Game No. 13 -- Connecticut 67, LSU 66 (Jan. 7, Hartford, Conn.) The Tigers for the second straight Saturday had a nationally-ranked team on the ropes before falling in the final seconds, this time No. 2 Connecticut … The young, athletic Tiger squad came out again with no fear, building as much as a 14-point first-half lead before 16,294 fans at the Hartford Civic Center before going to the dressing room with a 37-30 lead … UConn took the lead for good at 2:25 and had a four-point advantage, 65-61, with 1:47 to go … With the Huskies up, 67-64, on a Marcus Williams bucket with 20 second left, the Tigers came down and Darrel Williams was fouled on a three-point attempt … He made two free throws with 9 seconds left to cut it to 67-66 … LSU fouled on the inbounds and UConn missed two free throws … The Tigers rebounded and Darrel Mitchell drove down the floor, off a screen and missed a three-pointer right before the buzzer … Darrel Mitchell led LSU with 21 points, while Tyrus Thomas had 15 points, 13 rebounds and a career best seven blocks, while Glen Davis and Tasmin Mitchell each had 12 points … LSU shot 46.3 percent from the floor (25-of-54) and out rebounded UConn, 41-39 … The Huskies shot just 32.8 percent from the floor.

Game No. 14 -- LSU 63, Arkansas 58 (Jan. 11, Fayetteville, Ark.) LSU was able to close the deal on the road to win its SEC opener at Bud Walton Arena ... LSU weathered the early emotional storm of the Razorbacks, falling behind 24-12 in the first 10 min- utes before outscoring the Razorbacks, 16-4, to tie the game at 28-28 with 2:42 to go in the first half ... LSU would go to the intermission up, 32-31 ... LSU built its own 12 points lead, 44-32, with 14:44 to play before the Razorbacks cut the game back ... Tasmin Mitchell's layup with 1:37 to go gave LSU a 59-53 lead ... Arkansas would cut it to one, 59-58, with one minute to play before T. Mitchell hit a 14-footer after an LSU timeout to make it 61-58 with 29 seconds to play ... LSU's T. Mitchell added two free throws for the final margin ... Besides scoring LSU's last six points, the fresh- man scored 16 second half points to finish with a game-best 19 ... Tyrus Thomas doubled up with 13 points and 11 boards as did Glen Davis as he had 12 points, 10 rebounds and for the second straight game four assists ... LSU failed to make a three-pointer ending a 262 game streak dating back to 1997 in which LSU had made at least one three ... The Tigers shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the field and 56.3 percent from the line (9-of-16) to go with the 0-for-8 from the arc ... LSU did our rebound the Razorbacks, 44-34, with 16 offensive boards ... LSU had just eight turnovers, com- pared with 13 for Arkansas.

Game No. 15 -- LSU 88, Tennessee 74 (Jan. 14, Baton Rouge, La.) The Tigers won for the 10th consecutive time in SEC play at home, overcoming turnover problems early to win going away … LSU turned the ball over 17 times in the first half, but still went to the dressing room with a 30-27 lead after making 12-of-23 field goal attempts while holding Tennessee to just 10-of-37 shooting … In the second half, LSU scored the first nine points to open up a 12-point lead … Tennessee would cut it eventually back to two, but LSU get answering Tennessee's running play to get the win … LSU would shoot 76 percent in the second half (19-of-25) and make 20-of-26 (76.9 percent) at the line in the final 20 minutes … For the game, LSU was at 64.6 percent from the field (31-of-48) … Ironically, it was just under two years ago when LSU shot over 60 per- cent, Feb. 4, 2004 also against the Volunteers when LSU made 29-of-48 attempts (60.4) … Glen Davis led LSU with 24 points and 10 rebounds, with Tyrus Thomas with 17 points, nine boards and nine blocked shots … LSU also got 13 from Tasmin Mitchell, 11 from Darrel Mitchell and 10 from Darnell Lazare.

Game No. 16 -- LSU 71, Mississippi State 57 (Jan. 18, Starkville, Miss.) LSU won its fifth consecutive SEC road game dating back to last year (two this season) and its ninth consecutive SEC game overall with the win at Starkville ... LSU shot a consistent 45.8 per- cent for the game (25-of-59) and regained some of its shooting touch beyond the arc, making 6-of-15 ... LSU was out rebounded by State (for the second time this season), 40-33, but LSU turned the ball over just 11 times, compared to 18 for the Bulldogs ... Tyrus Thomas had his league leading 10th double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go with six blocks, while Glen Davis led LSU in scoring with 17, Darrel Mitchell 15 and Garrett Temple tied his season high with 10 points.

Game No. 17 -- LSU 68, Alabama 57 (Jan. 21, Baton Rouge, La.) LSU won its 11th consecutive SEC home game and its 10th consecutive SEC game overall with the win in the Maravich Center that pushed the Tigers SEC record to 4-0 ... Darrel Mitchell led the charge for LSU, scoring 19 points and equaling his career high of seven rebounds ... Glen Davis was in double figures for the 21st straight game with 17 points, while Tasmin Mitchell pumped in 14 ... Tyrus Thomas made it a league leading 11th consecutive double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, despite not scoring for the first 30 minutes of the game ... LSU shot 42.6 percent for the night (26-of-61), 7-of-18 from the arc (38.9 percent) and out rebounded the Crimson Tide, 39-31.

Game No. 18 -- LSU 81, Georgia 57 (Jan. 25, Baton Rouge, La.) LSU won its 12th consecutive SEC home game and its 11th consecutive SEC game overall with the win in the Maravich Center before the first sellout paid attendance in the new configuration of seating (13,468) ... LSU, with the game tied at 2-2, went on a 16-0 run to go up 18-2 at the 14:42 mark and cruised from there to a 50-19 halftime advantage ... In the first 20 minutes, LSU was 20-of-36 from the floor (55.6 percent) and 7-of-10 three-pointers ... For the game, LSU shot 50.8 percent (33-of-65) and 7-of-11 from the arc ... LSU out rebounded Georgia 44-39 ... Darrel Mitchell, hitting 5-of-7 treys, had 24 points and eight assists, while Glen Davis and Tyrus Thomas had 13 apiece and Tasmin Mitchell 11. Ben Voogd did not score but did have seven assists and no turnovers in 19 minutes.

Game No. 19 -- LSU 79, Ole Miss 73 (Jan. 28, Oxford, Miss.) LSU continued its success outlasting the Rebels to win its sixth consecutive road game in the SEC and its 12 overall consecutive SEC game … LSU had to battle back several times against an Ole Miss team playing at the top of its game, but so were the Tigers on this occasion … Ole Miss built a 10-point first half lead before LSU went on a 15-0 run and built a nine-point lead of its own … Up 37-33 at the half, LSU and Ole Miss battled back and forth with Ole Miss taking the lead back at the 5:32 mark … But behind the play of Darrel Mitchell and Tasmin Mitchell and outstanding free throw shooting, LSU was able to finish the game … Darrel Mitchell scored 28 points, making five treys for the second straight game, while Tasmin Mitchell scored a career high 20 points … Glen Davis added 19 as LSU shot 47.3 percent from the floor and 50 percent (7-14) from the arc, while making 87 percent from the free throw line (20-of-23).

Game No. 20 -- LSU 84, Auburn 69 (Feb. 1, Baton Rouge, La.) LSU had to work hard to put away the scrappy Tigers, but won its 13th consecutive SEC game at home and its 13th consecutive SEC game overall at the Maravich Center ... LSU had to spurt away at the end of the first half to get a 40-33 halftime advantage, but Auburn came back to tale a 54-52 advantage with 12:54 to play ... The game was tied at 54 and 56-all before LSU would go on a 24-8 run to put the game away ... Darrel Mitchell had his third straight 20-plus point game in SEC play with 27 points (8 assists), while Glen Davis and Tyrus Thomas each scored 17 points ... LSU shot 71.4 percent in the second half, making 15-of-21 field goals with 12 assists in that 20 minutes ... LSU shot 63 percent for the game (29-46) and 5-of-10 from the arc ... LSU also continued its strong free throw shooting in league play, making 75 percent (21-28).

Game No. 21 -- Alabama 67, LSU 62 (Feb. 4, Tuscaloosa, Ala.) The Tigers lost for the first time in SEC play as Alabama made key free throws down the stretch to keep LSU at bay at Coleman Coliseum to get a split in the season series … LSU was down at the half, 37-35 … Both teams made 25 field goals and seven treys, with each team getting 34 rebounds, 12 turnovers and six steals … LSU was 5-of-6 at the line, while Alabama was 10-of-13 … Glen Davis had his 10th double double of the season and 20th of his career with 11 rebounds to go with 18 points … Tasmin Mitchell and Darrel Mitchell each had 14 points … Tyrus Thomas was held to his lowest point total since the Dec. 19 Northern Iowa game with four points and four blocks.

Game No. 22 -- LSU 78, Arkansas 77 (Feb. 8, Baton Rouge, La.) The Tigers appeared to have the game won, watched the lead disappear and then Darrel Mitchell rescued LSU with a top-of-the-key three-pointer with 11 seconds to play to give LSU the vic- tory and push it to 8-1 in the league ... LSU led the game, 39-33, at the half, and had a 14-points advantage five times in the second half ... LSU led, 75-63, on a Tyrus Thomas dunk with 4:35 to play,

LSU missed a three-pointer and had to foul ... Arkansas missed both shots, setting up the Mitchell bucket and the Razorbacks missed a shot at the buzzer ... Darrel Mitchell led LSU with 27 points, hitting five treys for the fourth time this year ... Glen Davis had his 11th double double with 19 points and a season-equaling high of 16 rebounds ... LSU shot 53.2 percent from the field (33-62) and 7-15 from the arc, but just 5-of-11 from the line ... LSU out rebounded Arkansas, 39-32.

Game No. 23 -- Florida 71, LSU 62 (Feb. 11, Gainesville, Fla.) Although not playing as well as they had in recent weeks on the road, the Tigers took a couple of good shots from the Gators and continued to stay even, before a late scoring rush pushed the margin out too far to overcome in the final minutes … The game was tied at 37-37 at the half, but the seventh-ranked Gators held LSU to just 25 second-half points … Glen Davis had his third con- secutive double double with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Tasmin Mitchell added 14 points, Darrel Mitchell 11 and Darnell Lazare off the bench in a strong performance, scored 10 … LSU shot 40.0 percent from the floor (24-of-60), but just 2-of-11 from the arc and 12-of-19 from the free throw line … The rebounds in the game were even at 38 … Davis had nine offensive rebounds, the first LSU player to grab nine offensive boards in a game since Shaquille O'Neal in 1992.

The Tigers made it 15 straight home SEC wins in the Maravich Center, keeping a scrappy Bulldog team at bay, despite shooting a season low 38.3 percent from the floor ... LSU did dominate a team that out rebounded LSU in the first meeting, 51-35 ... Darrel Mitchell's second trey just before the 10 minute mark of the second half set the school record for career threes at 238 and he fin- ished with 16 points ... Glen Davis had his fourth consecutive double double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Tyrus Thomas continued to play well at home with 16 points and 13 rebounds ...
