Magic Kingdom Cheat Sheet Rope Drop: Magic Kingdom ordinarily opens its ticketing gates 75 minutes before official Park open. Guests are held just inside the entrance in the courtyard in front of the train station. The opening show, which features Mickey and the gang arriving via steam train, begins 10 to 15 minutes prior to Park open and lasts about six minutes. At the conclusion of the show, the Park is opened. The best viewing area is front and center, but this puts you at a disadvantage entering the Park as everyone off to the sides will enter before you. To minimize morning waits, make your way to the far left or right of the courtyard in front of one of the entrances. There may or may not be internal ropes at the various Lands holding guests until closer to official Park open. General Touring Philosophy: With 60+ attractions, Magic Kingdom is best toured over two or more days. The best plans compartmentalize the Park by visiting two or three Lands each day. Visit the character and attraction priorities in one Land before moving on to the next. Have lunch and then head back to the same Lands visiting the “anytime attractions.” This minimizes both waiting and walking. One-day touring will require more walking. You can still accomplish a lot by touring intelligently, but some attractions will need to be skipped. Characters: Unlike the other three Parks, there are characters that need to be prioritized ahead of the most important attractions. If you’d like to visit Enchanted Tales with Belle, Merida, Tinker Bell, or Rapunzel, you need to visit first thing in the morning, in the last hour they’re scheduled to appear, or use FastPass+ (where applicable) to avoid 30 to 75 minute waits. Visit the Character Prioritization page for more information. FastPass+ Priority: 1. Enchanted Tales with Belle 2. Peter Pan’s Flight 3. Main Street Electrical Parade 4. Space Mountain 5. Splash Mountain (when high temperatures are 80+ degrees) 6. Ariel at Ariel’s Grotto 7. Rapunzel at Princess Fairytale Hall 8. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 9. Cinderella at Princess Fairytale Hall 10. Tomorrowland Speedway 11. Mickey at Town Square Theater 12. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin 13. Haunted Mansion 14. Splash Mountain (when high temperatures are less than 80 degrees) 15. Jungle Cruise 16. Barnstormer 17. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh 18. Under the Sea Journey of the Little Mermaid 19. Wishes 20. Pirates of the Caribbean 21. Dumbo the Flying Elephant 22. it’s a small world 23. Magic Carpets of Aladdin 24. Mad Tea Party 25. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor 26. Mickey’s PhilharMagic There are far more FastPass+ opportunities at Magic Kingdom than any of the other theme parks, making the decision on which to pick difficult. Consider picking three high priority attractions in a Land that you don’t plan to visit until the afternoon or evening. For example, if you plan to start your day with Tinker Bell, Aladdin’s Magical Carpets, Jungle Cruise, Big Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain, then you may want to use FastPass+ in the afternoon in Fantasyland at Enchanted Tales with Belle, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Rapunzel or in Tomorrowland at Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, and Buzz Lightyear. FastPass+ Kiosks in Order of Least Busy to Busiest: 1. Fantasyland: Storybook Circus in the very back tent near Pete’s Silly Sideshow 2. Main Street: Town Square Theater just inside the entrance on the right 3. Adventureland: Breezeway to the right of Diamond Horseshoe, across from Treehouse 4. Liberty Square: Heritage House to the right of Hall of Presidents 5. Frontierland: To the right of Splash Mountain entrance at the old FASTPASS machines 6. Main Street: City Hall Guest Relations just inside the entrance on the left 7. Adventureland: Veranda outside Tinker Bell’s Nook 8. Fantasyland: To the right of Mickey’s PhilharMagic 9. Tomorrowland: To the left of the Stitch’s Great Escape entrance 10. Tomorrowland: Space Mountain FASTPASS machines It’s unnecessary to schedule your FP+ experiences first thing in the morning because there are so many choices and specific attractions don’t run out that quickly, but most guests should consider stopping at a recommended kiosk after the first three or four steps of their Morning Plan before long lines materialize. While Town Square Theater is recommended, bypass it first thing in the morning because lines there will be longer. Ideal Two-Day Morning Plan Day 1: 1. Ride Space Mountain: 9am – 9:20am 2. Ride Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: 9:25am – 9:35am 3. Ride Astro Orbiter: 9:37am – 9:55am 4. Ride Tomorrowland Speedway (if desired): 10am – 10:20am 5. Ride The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: 10:25am – 10:40am 6. Ride Dumbo: 10:45am – 11am 7. Ride The Barnstormer: 11:03am – 11:15am 8. Ride Journey of the Little Mermaid: 11:20am – 11:40am 9. Have lunch: Use FastPass+ at Be Our Guest Restaurant if possible. Pinocchio Village Haus is closest. Cosmic Ray’s is relatively close. 10. Ride Peter Pan’s Flight with FP+: 12:45pm – 1pm 11. Visit Enchanted Tales with Belle with FP+: 1pm – 1:30pm Afternoon and Evening: Consider an afternoon break or visit the anytime attractions in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland like Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Prince Regal Carousel, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Tomorrowland PeopleMover, Carousel of Progress, and Stitch’s Great Escape. In the afternoon or evening, use FastPass+ at an additional attraction of your choice. Ideal Two-Day Morning Plan Day 1: Use FastPass+ at your choice of three attractions in the afternoon or evening 1. Ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: 9:10am – 9:20am – Ride again if desired 2. Ride Splash Mountain: 9:23am – 9:45am (Won’t get too wet but can return later w/ FP+) 3. Ride it’s a small world: 9:55am – 10:17am 4. Ride Haunted Mansion: 10:20am – 10:40am 5. Ride Jungle Cruise: 10:50am – 11:15am 6. Ride Aladdin’s Magical Carpets: 11:17am – 11:30am 7. Ride Pirates of the Caribbean: 11:35am – 11:55am 8. Have lunch. Tortuga Tavern and Pecos Bill are closest. Columbia Harbour House, Liberty Tree Tavern, and Casey’s Corner are relatively close. Afternoon and Evening: Consider an afternoon break or visit the anytime attractions like Tom Sawyer Island, Hall of Presidents, Liberty Square Riverboat, Country Bear Jamboree, Enchanted Tiki Room, and Swiss Family Treehouse. Use FastPass+ for Mickey Mouse at Town Square before or after you plan a break or in the afternoon. Consider your last FP+ for Main Street Electrical Parade or other attractions you’d like to experience (again). Ideal Two-Day Character-Centric Morning Plan Day 1: Use FastPass+ at Enchanted Tales with Belle, and Two Out of Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear Space Range Spin, and Tomorrowland Speedway 1. Laugh Floor, Tomorrowland PeopleMover, Carousel of Progress, and Stitch’s Great Escape. In the afternoon or evening, use FastPass+ at Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway or Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Ideal Two-Day Character-Centric Morning Plan Day 2: Use FastPass+ at Splash Mountain, Town Square Mickey Meet, and One Additional Attraction 1. Meet Tinker Bell in Adventureland or Merida in Fairytale Garden: 9am – 9:25am 2. Meet Aladdin and Jasmine at Agrabah Bazaar: 9:30am – 9:45am 3. Ride Aladdin’s Magical Carpets: 9:47am – 10:00am 4.

  • SUGGESTED DISNEY ITINERARIES You Shouldn’T March Into the Parks with a Stopwatch and a Map Like Some Kind of Warrior Or Military Strategist
05_453162-ch01.qxp 5/21/09 9:30 PM Page 2 America’s 11 Playground Approaching Orlando—and this guide IN 1886, A YOUNG UNMARRIED MAILMAN, FRUSTRATED WITH HIS FRUITLESS endeavors in the Midwest, moved to the woolly wilderness of Central Florida to make a better go of life. The land was no one’s friend. Summers were oppressively hot, the lightning relentless, and the tough land, by turns sodden and scrubby, seemed to defy clearing. The only domestic creatures that thrived in Central Florida, it seemed, were the cattle, and even they turned out stringy and chewy. Undaunted—and in love with a girl from a neighboring farm—the young man planted a grove of citrus trees and waited for things to get better. They didn’t. His trees died in a freeze and the young man was forced to return to delivering the mail to support himself. By 1890, the young man gave up. He moved, defeated, to Chicago to seek work. He was joined by his new bride, whose father had been injured clearing Florida pine and died. Back in the smoke of the Midwest, they had children and settled for what was to be an anonymous existence. One day, 8 decades later, long after the young man and woman had lived full lives and passed away, two of their sons would return to Central Florida, that land that broke their father, and together they would transform the recalcitrant swamp into the most famous fantasyland in the world. The American dream appeared to fail for Elias Disney.

  • How to Be an Imagineer, According to Disney Legend Marty Sklar
Disney Legend and Walt Disney Imagineering hero Marty Sklar started his career with The Walt Disney Company in 1955. A month before Disneyland Park first opened, the UCLA Bruin was recruited as the chief-editor of The Disneyland News. After graduating, he joined Disney full-time in 1956, where he was the head of Disneyland’s publicity and marketing. During early morning on Main Street USA, Walt Disney sat down with Marty Sklar and asked him, “What are you doing [for me]?” By 1960, Marty Sklar became Walt Disney’s “ghostwriter,” being the man in charge of writing official statements and documents that would have Walt Disney named the author. The two became close associates and later friends. In 1961, Sklar transferred over to WED Enterprises (now Walt Disney Imagineering) per the request of Walt Disney. There, he worked on attractions such as Ford’s Magic Skyway (later the PeopleMover), “it’s a small world,” and the Carousel of Progress for the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. Credit: D23 During his 54-year career with The Walt Disney Company, Sklar served as Vice President of Creative Development, Executive Vice President, and then President of Walt Disney Imagineering. He’s the only person to attend the grand opening of every Disney Park across the globe. For over 50 years, Walt Disney’s philosophy burned in Marty Sklar and led him throughout his career. He once stated: Working with Walt Disney was the greatest ‘training by fire’ anyone could ever experience. Our training was by Walt, who was always there pitching in with new ideas and improving everyone else’s input.
