Day 2 Thu 24 April

0900 Depart accommodation and begin Tour of the Somme

Gommecourt/Fonquevillers The Somme 1916; The diversionary attack of 46 (North Midland) and 56th (London) Territorial Divisions 1st July 1916. Several OS involved (2 killed). Capt TT Pryce, VC, MC & Bar (OS) wins 1st MC here in 1915.

Serre and Sheffield Memorial Park Kitchener's Army and the Pals Battalions; Recruitment; The Plan; Going over the top 1 st July 1916 (Many OS here, Riley of Accrington Pals, OS, killed here)

1300 Lunch at Ocean Villas Tea Rooms – included (There is plenty to see here and we have some WWI kit and equipment on site that you can have a look at).

Sunken Lane 1/Lancashire Fusiliers; Hawthorn Ridge mine ‘The Battle of the Somme’ captured on film by Geoffrey Malins.

Ulster Tower/ Wood/Authuille 36th Ulster Division, Tolkein & Lancashire Fusiliers (several OS served here, 2 buried).

Pozieres Attack of 1st Australian Div, GOC Maj Gen H.B. Walker (OS). JWP Ponsford & N Gough (OS) buried here, 4 others commemorated here.

Day 3 Fri 25 April

0900 Depart accommodation with packed lunches and continue tour

Bois Francais RWF, where Siegfried Sassoon wins MC.

Mametz Wood Welsh Dragon sculpture and story of the 38th (Welsh) Division in 1916. (Several OS with KSLI/RWF here). George (Kaye-) Butterworth, composer who set A Shropshire Lad to music, killed in , nearby.

Caterpillar Valley (2 OS buried here).

Delville Wood South African War Memorial. Capt H Ackroyd, VC, MC (OS) serving here in July 1916. Wins MC here.John Gilchrist Bowrie, Public Schools Bn (OS) buried here. 2Lt (later Gen Sir) Miles Dempsey (OS) here in July 1916.

Thiepval Memorial to the Missing and Visitor Centre. Study attack on Thiepval. Honour 21 OS commemorated here. (Salopian Masters MG White & EHL Southwell, both RB, of 'Two Men' fame)
