Heavy fine imposed on Fenerbahçe SK

Fines and suspensions from UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body meeting of 5 September

The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body decided to impose a fine of 50,000 CHF on Fenerbahçe SK following crowd disturbances in their UEFA Champions League Third Qualifying Round second leg match played against (0-2) on 27 August 2002 in the Sükrü Saraçoglu Stadium in Istanbul.

The Body decided to close the disciplinary cases involving both the Fenerbahçe SK player Miroslav Stevic and the Feyenoord player Bonaventure Kalou who were involved in an incident during the UEFA Champions League Third Qualifying Round first leg match between Feyenoord and Fenerbahçe SK (1-0) played on 13 August 2002 in Rotterdam. Even though the video footage of the incident clearly showed the assault and provocation of the players, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body decided to stop the proceedings as the referee had seen the situation and therefore took a factual decision that cannot be changed or overruled by the disciplinary entity.

The Control and Disciplinary Body decided to reject the complaint lodged by PFC Levski Sofia after their UEFA Champions League Third Qualifying Round match played against FC Dynamo Kyiv (0- 1) on 28 August 2002. PFC Levski Sofia had argued that one player of the Ukrainian side had not been properly registered with UEFA and was therefore not eligible to play in that game but the UEFA Administration could confirm that the player had been registered according to UEFA directives for this competition.

The decisions listed below can be appealed by Monday 9 September 24:00 CET.
