Today the K-9 Unit consists of K-9 Officer/Handler Steven Somers, Patrol K-9 Boyar, and Narcotics K-9 Jessica (Jesse). The K-9 Unit supports the Patrol Division of the Rockland Police Department and serves the community with a variety of functions/services. It was formerly the northeast section of Abington. Population was 4,000 when incorporated under its present name. Name: Rockland derived its name geologically from its rocky nature. A “large rock” is mentioned in the description of the Town Seal. Incorporated: March 9, 1874.
