May 26, 2020, Issue 706 Country Weathers Cume Crater Even a cursory glance through last week’s April 2020 PPM scoreboard (view here, pg. 15) reveals substantial declines in listeners (cume), even as the Country format’s share of listening has risen month-to-month and year over year. That stands to reason as the survey period – March 26 through April 22 – roughly mirrors the opening four weeks of a nationwide pandemic-related shutdown. Putting a finer point on it, Country’s April share was up 13.5 points (3.8%), while its cume was down 7,352,700 (26.9%). Perhaps the inevitable conclusion is that radio’s overall audience is, understandably, in decline as listeners shelter at home and drop prior listening habits, but Country’s audience has seen less of a decline – hence a higher share of that smaller audience.
