Lake Shore Lincoln Lines Newsletter - Lake Shore Region - Lincoln & Continental Owners Club

‘Round and About… Remember….you heard it here first!!

 Part newsletter……….Part matchmaker!!! Quite proud of this little bit of news! I got a note from Bill Fletcher the very next day after the last LSR newsletter went out. Well it seems that Bill saw Jim Cooley’s ad for Jim’s amazing 1976 Lincoln Mark IV which Jim had advertised in our newsletter and IMMEDIATELY went over and bought it. Jim had actually advertised it in the Lincoln Comments as well. But our newsletter beat the delivery of the Comments by 12 hours. Woohoo! Our newsletter wins and we have two very happy members! Bill was also kind enough to share this picture of the actual car.

Now he just needs to deal with me bugging him for a ride in it!!

 Cars of Future Past So maybe like me you find that the cars they make these days to be a little too cookie cutter. You have to check the logo to be sure what brand they are. So that kind of musing made me look up some concept cars that Lincoln had produced that sadly never made it to production. Check out this gem below. This is the Futura which was displayed on the show circuit in 1955. It was hand-built in Italy - at a cost of $250,00 (equivalent to $2,200,000 in 2017). Not quite within my budget, but would I love to have this baby! No surprise at all that eleven years later it was modified into the for the TV series Batman.

Hi there everybody!

I had fun with the little bits I tucked in here last time. So thought I’d do it again and share a little more old fashioned fun that Tom Minton shared with me. Remember that you really don’t have to color inside the lines if you don’t want to, but for heaven’s sake please drive between them! Be safe out there everyone! Anne

This is what NYC looked like in the late 1800’s. See? You Here is the way they parked cars in NYC during the can’t blame cars for traffic jams. I wonder who had the 1930’s. Early version of some of our members’ garages. job of picking up all the road apples from the horses? Wouldn’t you love to own this group of cars today?!

Wow! Wow! Wow! You should see the great article that our own Tom Klockau did about the club’s trip to Lake Geneva. We had our own article in the last edition of the newsletter. Plus Tom had soooo many awesome pictures that we couldn’t possibly duplicate his article here. But I still strongly recommend you check out Tom’s article via the following link: LCOC Meet in Lake Geneva – A Broughamtastic Brunch. Tom writes occasionally for the blog on which this was posted called “Riverside Green”.

Showcasing transportation 11:00am history, the museum is Wisconsin's largest auto museum, featuring an ever-changing display of classic and vintage autos and artifacts plus the largest assembled group of Hartford-built Kissel luxury automobiles. The museum's striking art deco interior sets off 110+ vehicles on exhibit, including: Pontiacs, Studebakers, , Kaisers, Fords, and other cars from around the world. The collection is rounded out by displays of automotive artifacts such as gas pumps, signs, license plates, oil cans and other petroliana. An assortment of outboard engines built in Hartford from 1930s - 1990s are also on display. The high caliber Kissel automobiles were manufactured in Hartford from 1906 - 1931, making Kissel the second longest car manufacturer in Wisconsin. Of the 35,000 produced, fewer than 200 are known to exist today, with 25 currently exhibited at the museum. The most famous Kissel model was the two passenger Speedster nicknamed the "Gold Bug". Gold Bug owners included celebrities of the day such as Amelia Earhart, Mary Pickford and Fatty Arbuckle. A wide selection of models including 4 passenger, coupes, touring cars, fire engines and trucks are part of the collection. One of the museum's exhibits is a car driven more than a million miles by a local traveling salesman. Meet at the museum at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17th. Admission is $10 for adults - - $8 for seniors. If our group is 20 people or more, the entrance fee would be $8. The address is 147 N. Rural Street, Hartford, WI. "Cars & Cops" Car Show by Dick Nelson

Lake Shore region member Mark Nottoli and I attended this event which was held in Chicago on Sunday, May 21st. After an early morning rain, the skies cleared and the day was breezy but overcast on and off.

Participation was exceptional with about 150 vehicles on display. At the time the awards were presented, the emcee said there was more than enough space and they look forward to having 500 vehicles next year.

Vehicles were judged in the following categories: Muscle Cars, Exotics, Hot Rods, Race Cars, Pre- war Classics, Sports Cars, Pick-ups, Micro Cars, Post-war Classics (1945-1965) and Others. Mark and I were in the unexplained "others" class and when the awards were presented, no mention was made of this class and the vehicles were not recognized at that time. When we requested that our cars be judged, it was then done by only one judge. Being a first-time event, things went pretty smoothly but there is a lot of fine tuning to be done for the next time around.

Proceeds from the event are for purchase of bullet-proof vests for members of the Chicago Police Department. While Mark and I were not too satisfied with the outcome of the event, we know that our registration fee will be well spent.

Editor’s note:

Dick and Mark’s cars were the only 2 Lincolns at the show. Seems a shame that all too often the brand is under represented at these sort of car shows.

Thanks to Dick and Mark for carrying the flag not only for our club but for our brand!!

An eye-catcher was a Rolls Royce completely covered with Swarovski crystals. One million of the crystals were put on one at a time to create this stunning vehicle. It’s the very shiny blue and silver car in the center of the picture to the left.

At the end of the day, Mr. Klairmont, along with his fiancée/VP Administrative Assistant Joyce Oberlander, entertained us with many stories of his life and how he got started amassing this impressive collection. At the age of 90, Mr. Klairmont has not slowed down at all. In fact, he was going to the Mecum auction in Indianapolis with 53 of his cars and maybe, just maybe he might come back with some awesome
