Stanley Savage The Commerce Bank As you know, King County residents will benefit from this initiative in many ways. Public school Treasurer students in all 19 King County school districts will go on more field trips at no cost, and will see Sandy McDade Weyerhaeuser (retired) increased in-school programming. Organizations will expand community programs and offer more free Immediate Past Chair and reduced-price tickets to people of all ages, with a focus on low-income families, communities of Mari Horita President & CEO color, and seniors. ArtsFund’s 2014 Economic Impact Study of Nonprofit Arts, Cultural, and Scientific Organizations in King County (highlights enclosed) shows how the cultural sector in our region boosts our economy and elevates our quality of life. Spending by these organizations—the same ones who would receive funding via Access for All—and their patrons generated $2.0 billion in economic activity, nearly $90 million in taxes, and supported over 30,000 jobs across the state in 2014. Patrons spent $574 million visiting these ArtsFund strengthens the institutions, only one third of which was spent on tickets and admissions. The remaining two thirds were community by supporting the spent on restaurants, transportation, hotels, retail shops, and child care. This bill will help stimulate arts through leadership, further economic activity for local businesses, as the majority of the funding and resulting increased advocacy, and grant making. patron expenditures will be spent in King County. ArtsFund has supported this initiative for over a decade because we believe it will help realize our vision of “A community with a dynamic and world-class arts and cultural sector where the arts are accessible to all and valued as central and critical to a healthy society.” Past that, it will help close the achievement gap in our schools, provide more equitable access to opportunities out of reach to too many, and strengthen our community and our economy. For these reasons, we urge you to authorize the measure to be placed on the ballot for voters to decide. Sincerely, Mari Horita | President & CEO Carol Powell | Board Chair .
