CapitaLand wraps up 2016 with series of year-end festive campaigns to bring cheer to underprivileged children in Donates S$1.6 million this year for Singapore initiatives

Singapore, 1 December 2016 – CapitaLand is capping off a year of giving with a total donation of S$1.6 million from the Group’s philanthropic arm, CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF), to benefit underprivileged children in Singapore this year. Through several upcoming campaigns across its properties in Singapore, CapitaLand is once again going beyond its own charitable contributions to rally its stakeholders this year-end festive season to join the Group in bringing cheer to underprivileged children.

Mr Tan Seng Chai, Group Chief Corporate Officer of CapitaLand Limited and Executive Director of CHF, said: “For 2016, CHF has committed around S$2.4 million to benefit underprivileged children in Singapore and other countries where CapitaLand operates. Whilst ‘tis the season for giving, CapitaLand believes in going beyond donations associated with charitable giving, to also focus on giving time and attention to the children beneficiaries. As in past years, we are looking forward to working hand in hand with our tenants, shoppers, residents, business associates and employees to raise more awareness of the underprivileged in Singapore. CapitaLand hopes that by encouraging and engaging our stakeholders to participate in these initiatives, they can bring this spirit of charity and volunteerism back to their own communities and start making a difference in their own way.”

Shopping and giving in CapitaLand malls

CapitaLand Mall Asia, the Group’s wholly owned arm, is partnering Coca- Cola® Singapore to encourage shoppers in Singapore to ‘Recycle Happiness’. Coca- Cola®’s popular Recycle Happiness machine will be stationed at Raffles City Shopping Centre and Lot One Shoppers’ Mall this month, to allow shoppers to recycle their used drink bottles in exchange for special gifts. CHF will donate S$2 to Community Chest-supported Rainbow Centre – Margaret Drive School for every bottle recycled during the campaign, up to a maximum of S$25,000. Rainbow Centre – Margaret Drive School is a special education school that runs programmes for students with moderate to severe developmental needs, including autism, physical, visual and/or hearing disabilities.

Shoppers can drop off their used drink bottles from 1pm to 8pm on these dates:

 Raffles City Shopping Centre – 10 & 11 December; and 24 & 25 December  Lot One Shoppers’ Mall – 3 & 4 December; and 17 & 18 December

For the whole of this month, shoppers can also appreciate life-size Christmas displays made from recycled Coca-Cola® bottles in both malls. These upcycling efforts will help propagate the message of resource conservation in a fun and accessible way, and are aligned with CapitaLand’s commitment to be a sustainable developer.

In addition, is partnering its business associates for its “Adopt a Care Bear Cousin for Charity” campaign, which runs from 7 to 25 December. Shoppers can adopt one of the limited edition ‘Lotsa Heart Elephant’ plush toys that form the mall’s Christmas tree for S$25. All money collected will go towards the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF), with CHF matching the amount raised dollar-for-dollar. CCF runs programmes that support children with cancer and their families in their emotional, social and physical well-being as they battle the illness.

Fulfilling the festive wishes of over 850 underprivileged children

CapitaLand Commercial Trust Management Limited, the manager of CapitaLand Commercial Trust (CCT), is partnering its tenants in six of its office properties in Singapore – CapitaGreen, Capital Tower, One George Street, Six Battery Road, Raffles City Tower and Twenty Anson – for its annual ‘Gifts of Joy’ initiative. Into its fourth year, ‘Gifts of Joy’ is one of CCT’s key tenant engagement initiatives which brings together office tenants and CapitaLand employees to wrap and deliver gifts to underprivileged children.

From 14 November to 9 December, tenants have the opportunity to adopt and fulfill the gift wishes of 660 beneficiaries under The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF), CCT’s adopted charity for the year. STSPMF provides pocket money to children from low- income families to help with their school-related expenses. CHF is also donating S$10 to STSPMF for every gift wish fulfilled. Apart from the gift collection drive, this year, a record 150 tenants and CapitaLand staff have volunteered to wrap and deliver the gifts to the beneficiaries from 14 to 16 December. This donation drive will add to about S$27,000 that CCT had raised for STSPMF in August 2016 through its CCT Eco Race, which promotes environmental awareness among tenants in a fun contest of speed, strategy and teamwork.

The Ascott Limited, CapitaLand’s wholly owned serviced residence arm, is also running a similar initiative for the first time in six Singapore properties – Ascott Raffles Place, Citadines Fusionopolis, Citadines Mount Sophia, Somerset Bencoolen, Somerset and Somerset Orchard. Residents are encouraged to donate gifts, including educational materials, suitable for children aged 3 years and below. The gifts will go to 200 beneficiaries under the KIDS 0-3 programme led by KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, aimed at providing early assistance to vulnerable children up to 3 years old and their mothers.

In recognition of its strong commitment to helping underprivileged children and advocacy for volunteerism, CapitaLand was conferred the inaugural President’s Award for Volunteerism and Philanthropy (Corporate) last year by President of the Republic of Singapore Tony Tan Keng Yam. Earlier this year, CapitaLand was also made a Founding Member of the Company of Good, a programme developed by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre and the Singapore Business Federation Foundation that aims to drive corporate giving in Singapore. Founding Members are deemed to be trailblazers in championing and driving corporate giving in Singapore.
