My brake was a real nuisance: nothing happened immediately but after about 24 hrs at height you would notice that the back brake travel on the lever had increased considerably to a point of not working the brake at all. The first time it happened, I adjusted it thinking something was wrong. It also seemed to have a thriving black market....another sign of things not being too good. We began our visit to Venezuela by having to sleep on the border! We were through border controls but the bikes weren’t, and could not be until the “office” came to work in the morning. Whilst the border was open 24hrs the office kept office hours! Only in the office could the bikes papers be dealt with. It was a fairly sleepless night with all sorts going on the border but we had no problems in spite of being told later in Venezuela that “that border is really dangerous”! We will require volunteers to run the menial tasks like car park duties for a couple of hours and some admin duties and these will be for a short period at the event. Maybe we need to have a volunteer’s database coordinator. The pay scale would be the usual big round figure, how are you fixed? Please send your CV’s to me. My thanks go to the Scottish section who have picked up the baton regarding the 2012 AGM site and run hard again because the original venue fell into the hands of the receiver who couldn’t guarantee that they would be trading next April. (This all sounds like history repeating itself from Phil Oughtred's and the NE section’s endeavours earlier this year.) Marjorie Burnett commented, “The new location is Moffat and we probably will be much better off with this choice here”. Let’s sincerely hope so! Safe riding until next time. Mark Dutton
