The life and light. It appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the points us to Jesus who has eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We removed our sins proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may and empowers us to walk in the have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with light of love. his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete. This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you:

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have

fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim

we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But

if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice

for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. M: This is the Word of the Lord.

From the Large Catechism on the Second Article of the Creed:

Now, if you are asked, “What do you believe in the Second Article about Jesus Christ?” answer briefly, “I believe that Jesus Christ, God’s true Son, has become my Lord.” “But what does it mean to become Lord?” “It is this. He has redeemed me from sin, from the devil, from death, and from all evil. For before I did not have a Lord or King, but was captive under the devil’s power, condemned to death, stuck in sin and blindness.” . . . Let this, then, be the sum of this article: the little word Lord means simply the same as redeemer. It means the One who has brought us from Satan to God, from death to life, from sin to righteousness, and who preserves us in the same. Large Catechism, Part II, Art. II, paragraphs 27 and 31
